Dumb transmission question

For a manual transmission swap, does the transmission have to come from a trooper to marry up to the transfer case? Could you use an AR5 from a Solstice, for example?

I would think the bell-housing would present more of an issue than the xfer case.

It would need to be a 4x4 trans. otherwise they are not designed to attach to a transfer case but to a drive shaft.
