I've done this a few times and can usually get it out in about 10 minutes. I've always had great success coming out from the front of the truck since I'm lifted. I don't even have to jack up the truck or take the tire off. Through the tire well, I recommend disconnecting the clip-on circular harness (it's kind of a pain, as the release clip doesn't flex a lot) and removal of the nut holding on the cable as well (10mm, IIRC). Then remove the 2 bolts holding it in place. I use a pry bar to dislodge it from the bracket it sits in, and then, if you're lying on your back looking up at the alt., there's a little path that you can use to bring it down by rotating the pulley down towards to ground. It'll take some wiggling and rotating, but it'll come out.

Great, many thanks for your recommendations, much appreciated.
Not too sure what you mean by circular harness in the tire well, but I assume that you mean removing the plastic panneling / lining yo disconnect the wire harness and access the alernator side bolts?
Will have a look and have a go and your writting wil probably all make sense!
Many thanks,

There is a circular harness that clips into the back of the alternator. Pain in the butt to remove. When you see it/find it, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about *lol*.
