View Full Version : TOD Check light flashing Mechanic says 3 Grrr
Just turned 100,000 recently YAY! yeah right.. Anyway at around 104 the TOD light stated flashing. Was driving on a washboard driveway and it went on and hasn't went off. Mechanic has ran tests and came up with needing a new ABS EBCU or whatever the ABS computer is. I told him I haven't had ABS sensors in there in like 7 years and my TOD has been flawless, He said that's what it is and also it needs sensors replaced for the TOD. I been reading up on TOD and the only ABS info being sent to the TOD is if there is an ABS stop. Of which there hasn't been in like 7 years because the ABS sensors are gone. He said the errors he pulled out were endless and their were computer spool errors and he did a 4 way wire test on the ABS module thing and it for sure is bad. I don't know if he is accurate on this diagnosis but maybe he is maybe he isn't. He said Im looking at around 3 grand. I know their are threads on TOD but I'm kind of looking for general information on where else I could take it or ways to discuss other possibilities with my mechanic who has been great for the past few years. :whiteflag:

According to the shop manual, the EHCU (Electronic Hydrolic Control Unit), if bad can send an error to the TOD computer on pin 9 (on the EHCU) and cause the Check TOD error light. The sensor for the TOD unit is most likely the transfer case shift position sensor. Either one will cause the light. The shift position sensor for the TOD computer is probably the culprit, and the cheapest part to change. It is on the transfer case.
Or I'm completely wrong. But if there is a bad TOD sensor, I would change just that first and see if light goes out.
Very good my friend. I will give that a try 1st!
Is that the same sensor that indicates the vx being in the wrong gear on the dash display? I had that problem when if first got it, where it would show "D" on the shifter and "N" on the dash, or something like that.

Even if that wasn't the one being referenced, it wouldn't be a bad idea to check it out anyway to see if cleaning it would cure the issue. They can get rusty on the circuit board traces and that can be enough to create a similar issue/malfunction.
Where & what am I looking for?

On the drivers side of the transmission by the catalytic converter.
ETA - Been looking for a picture but haven't had any luck.
did the manual test it's throwing #13 code. cleared it, but it came on again right away. Some kind of a Ground wire issue. no luck as of yet

You may have to trace the wiring looking for cracks/breaks/bad connections.
