Connecticut Casino meet??

Hey all,

It's getting to be that time again. Who's up for the 2nd Annual Connecticut Casino Cruise? We should be able to top the 12 from last year, right? I know there are a lot more northeast VX owners on the board than there was a year ago.
This will be our 2nd anniversary (Vicky and me) and we haven't decided where to go yet, so I thought I'd test the waters and get everyone's input.
Last year, we did Mohegan Sun and that was great, and I would love to go back. But after driving by Foxwoods and seeing how BIG it is, I'd like to check that out, too.

We are looking at Valentine's Day weekend, Feb 13-15, maybe do the VX meet on Saturday around 11am? The concert calendars don't show much for that weekend (besides Julio Iglasias. Woo hoo!:rolleyes: ), but I'm sure we'll keep busy, and hopefully keep warm!

I'm in again. I'd vote for Foxwoods though, mohegan is a dump by comparison. Much better tables, and huge smoke free area.

If the weather is good that weekend I'll see if I can borrow our 4X4 club's balancing platform so we can have some fun in the parking lot.

I drove to pittsburg for new years, not a bad trip... I can do this. I don't have to have full size spare and CB, etc, etc right?

OK, we will be meeting in Emplyee Lot #9. I've been told that all the lots are clearly marked. On rte. 2 East, the first entrance stoplight will take you to Lot #9. If you are travelling on rte. 2 West, it will be the fourth light. There is also a garage very nearby so we can get out of the weather if it's too cold.

I also got the OK to use the teeter totter, so that should be fun. I hope the weather is nice, I think we're about due!

This time around maybe we could get some more pics and start calling it the 2nd Annual VX Winter Meet. :laughy: I diffently hope it's alittle warmer than the last time. For all that didn't get a chance to meet up last year. Bring so warm clothes and even some hot drinks cuz we almost froze. Hey NJ/NY Crew you gonna do another drive by like last year?

I have an appointment with my accountant on the 14th for my taxes, but I may be able to move that to a different day. I would really like to meet up with the North East VX group. One question though since I would have at least an 8 hour drive there, where can I stay (free preferably)? Trying to save to move to Arizona this fall.

I'm in if I can do this affordably.

NC_VX, you're welcome to stay at my place between your drive there and back. I'm about 8 hours from Asheville as I drive there at least 2 to 3 times a year, that's where my inlaws live. E-mail me if your interested. If I can go we can drive together and possibly meet up the NY/NJ crew going up.

8 hours ?? Are you sure?? It takes me 5 hrs from Boston to Paragon in Hazleton, and Foxwoods is 1.5 hours south of Boston. Even if you went through NYC, it shouldn't take much more than 5?? Yes?/No?
Either way, your welcome to stay with us but then you'll have another hour and a half each way to and from Beantown. :D We might stay overnight in CT if we can find a cheap hotel. Have you tried Priceline? You can usually get a room for $50. Split that with NCVX and you're all set.

Speaking of Priceline, where is Ed Yavno when you need him?!?! :) Any more New Yorkers coming?? They were half the lineup last year.

I have to pick up the balance beam thing in East Haddam, CT on my way, but I haven't checked to see where that is, yet. I've been told it's kind of on the way. I can swing by and you can go with us if you want, I probably could use another pair of hands. Either way, let me know. I'll be bringing the VX and my old beater pickup truck to carry the beam, so long as I can talk Vicky into driving separately, romantic, huh?;pb; ;eekr;

BBVX-- I'm guessing about 8 hrs. because I'm located only 15 minutes from Maryland, so I'm about 4 hours from New York. From Philly it would probably only be a 6 hour drive without major traffic problems.

If you're looking for a hotel, definitely check priceline.com.

To all of those with significant others who are less than enthusiastic, remind them that this isn't a car meet or a wheeling weekend. I see us spending 2 or 2.5 hours with the cars, 3 tops. The rest of the time is freetime. If VX people decide to spend it together, great. If not, I don't think anyone will mind. Last year, after playing with the cars (probably around 1ish), we went inside, had lunch and just about everyone went in different directions. Some of us met for dinner, some left to head back home, most probably gambled, a few of us even met for breakfast the next morning. So, it's entirely up to you what to do with the time you have, and who you spend it with.
I guess Vicky and I will be leaving Saturday night to return the teeter totter and drive back before it gets really late.

Thank you, Brian, for sending me the e-mail about the VX Meet - I will admit I have been very bad about logging on here and staying current with the posts. (Too much work - too little time, etc. etc.)
I can't think of a better Valentine's Day - casino and VXer's - my two favorite things!!!! I definitely prefer Foxwoods over Mohegan, as a matter of fact, will be spending at least 12 hours there this Friday.

Now here's an interesting twist as compared to some of the posts in this thread..... I'll have to check with hubby to see if HE will be willing to go to Foxwoods that day for a VX meet. The VX is actually mine, and he HATES the casino, but I'll bet if I tell him there will be a bunch of guys talking cars, I'll have no problem convincing him. Maybe some of you non-gamblers can even keep him amused for a few hours while I sneak off and play, eh? :winkp:

Brian - we'll be driving from Meriden to Foxwoods and go right by East Haddam . . . let me know if you need hubby and I to meet you there to lend a hand with the teeter-totter. Now THAT will really make him look forward to going to the casino for the first time in his life - vehicle fun!!!!

Foxwoods sounds great. I enjoyed Mohegan Sun last year but there is no place at Foxwoods where we can enjoy the NY/NJ "flyover" as we did from the top of the Mohegan Sun ramp garage. Foxwoods has an "RV" parking lot which is only RV's and Trailer trucks and it is about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. This time of year, the lot should have plently of space. I believe that it's lot #9. I'm temped to bring the RV as a place to get warm in the parking lot but I know you guys like to gamble, etc..

As far as I can tell, we are still looking at 14 or 15 VXers. I always assume that things are going to come up last minute, or people forget, or the weather goes bad, etc, etc, etc. We should have a pretty good turnout, and so far it looks like it will at least be warmer than last year.:rolleyes:

Foxwoods is right next to Mohegan Sun, about 90 minutes South of Boston. I would guess 2 hrs from NYC and maybe 2.5 from NH?
