Thought you guys might wanna check this out.
4x4wire Tranny swap thread (http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=416361&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=1#Post416464)
Basically what this means is that you can toss the wimpy 4l30e and isuzu t-case and get a beefy 4 speed with better gearing and pretty much any t-case you want, including the Dana 300 or Atlas II. You'd lose the TOD but you would gain a ton of aftermarket, including 4:1 gears for the D300 or even 5:1 gears in the almost unbreakable Atlas. Not to mention the ability to select front and rear wheel drive separately. Oh and did I mention its all bolt on with no special machining required. You'd have to fab a custom crossmember most likely, and probably rig something for the shifter or install an aftermarket one, but realistically with the right tools and skills this entire swap could be done in a weekend. Sounds pretty freakin cool to me.
