Just got off the phone with Eric at Novak Conversions (http://www.novak-adapt.com) and have some good news. He had originally shot me a price of around $600 for a custom billet adaptor plate. He had the factory aaptor plate precision mapped this morning and seems that their adaptor they use for the Dana 300 has a VERY similar bolt pattern so the price may have just gone down. He is going to TIG weld in the two holes that are slightly different from the Dana 300 plate and then redrill them to match the TOD pattern. The price difference is around half... $300! I will be picking up my output shaft for my transmission from him as well... get these parts coming from the same place. He said I should be able to have the part in a week... two weeks tops... he is going to emial me a quote here pretty quickly... and I should be back in business soon. THings are getting close on this conversion... if anyone cares to make a donatation to "Project VXtreme"... feel free to send it to reed17@kc.rr.com at PayPal! lol Ok... wishful thinking! LMAO! Seriously though, we aren't very far from making her breath again... that will leave plenty of work, but the good news is that the leftover work is small potatos in comparison to what I have overcome so far. Stay tuned!

I can't believe you're getting this project done so quickly.
Well done. :luck:

Yeah, the project is moving along quite well at this point. Heck, if I hadn't had such a problem with all the extra wiring and plugs in the engine bay, I would be a lot closer! lmao! I however DID have a problem with the extra computer plugs out there... so oh well... I would suggest that anyone out there who does consider the swap... leave the wiring alone... unless your as anal as me.
I can't wait to drive my beast again... heck, at this point, I'd be happy to drive it with the stock motor! I however think its gonna be ever more fun to drive with some real power.

Eric sent me a CAD drawing of the adaptor plate. It took me some time to find a program that would open and display it. Anyway, looks like a winner to me. I was going to upload it to my gallery for those who care to see it, but its 286KB and there is a 200 KB file size limit. Don't know if its possible to get it loaded to the site... anyway, here are a couple screen shots of the CAD drawing...
Here is the TOD side...

Here is the Transmission side...

Anyway, I'd post the whole CAD file but I don't have a place to host it. Its the first time I've seen a CAD file and how you can pan around the object... quite kewl! Anyway, I think I should have it in hand in the next week... sooo... I have to go wire the VX up! I'll check back later.

This is not just a plate it is a fabricated adapter, that explains the cost. Are you shortening the output shaft?

Stan-
Yeah, it is NO doubt a fabricated adaptor... loosely called an adaptor plate. The cost was going to be around $600 for a completely custom FABRICATED part... out of a chunk of aluminum... completely machined. This adaptor will start as one of their (Novak Conversions) castings they use for Dana 300 transfer caes to 4L60E transmission adaptations. They will be TIG welding in two of the wholes and redrilling them to match... basically by using an existing casting, they will be able to cut a LOT of the work out.
The output shaft of the 4L60E transmisson I will be using comes from a passenger car, not a truck, so I will have to install a 4x4 output shaft for the same transmission. It is several inches shorter and will allow for proper output shaft insertion length into the TOD input shaft. I will be getting my new output shaft from Novak as well... they have some in stock (new or GOOD used). We are getting close.
Stay tuned!

Ok, here is my webshots album with actual pictures of the new adaptor for the TOD to 4L60E transmission... I have to do a little modifications later on before the three parts will mate up though... the transfer case range selector stick has a "cup" that protrudes from the T-case... I will have to make room on the adaptor plate to clear this. Anyway, check it out... if you have any questions, lemme know.
