The bumps are all part of the fun. The shocks are adjustable but you won't get a Rolls-Royce ride. We'll leave that for the pavement jockeys:D

my wife saw one when they first came out in 99 they would not even let someone drive one back then without a deposit. she has always liked the vehicross since then. We recently went looking for a new car for her and I went searching on the internet and came across 2 one silver 99 w/ 70000 miles and a black 2000 w/ 36000 since she was more fond of the black and I was liked that it had less miles we went out and drove it and took it home that night. that had been about a month ago and she loves it. I also have a question we went yesterday and had a overhead tv and dvd palyer installed and now the alarm will not work. has anyone experienced this to tel me what is wrong. we took it back to the place that installed it and they want us to take it to the dealership and have them figure it out. of course they will pay for it, but if I can tell them what is wrong hopefully they can fix it.

thanks

Hello everyone! I had first learned of the "VehiCROSS" in '99 and couldn't afford one so I put it out of my mind to sit in one or even look at them. By the time I got around being able to afford one and seriously think about owning one in 2002, I sadly found out they had quit making them. I pretty much then figured owning one was out of the question as they are rarer than an Elvis sighting here.

Two years later - I was looking for an old truck and/or Rodeo Sport here in town a couple of weeks ago at a used car lot. The salesman helping me explained that he had something similar and pointed over to the corner of the lot. I thought to myself: "great, another salesman trying to sell me something I don't want". I slowly looked over to my right to where he had been pointing - I couldn't believe what I saw sitting there... and what a fantastic condition it was in! I walked over and said to him "I could get used to how it looks". It even had low miles!

I haggled with them on it during a span of three weeks and finally purchased it last nght. It still looks brand new.

I have to admit now, it looked really out there in '99, but now you can see the influence it has had on the styling of both the Toyota & Hyundai SUV's now being sold. It was ahead of its time.

Hi there.

I've been lurking on the site for a few months now while considering purchasing a Vehicross and gaining lots of information. While thinking I needed a second car, I saw a VX on the road over the summer and thought it would be a fun and unique ride. I thought they were pretty interesting when they first came out but a little impractical and overpriced. After a few months of internet searching I found a 2001 Dragon Green VX with less than 12K miles in Fort Lauderdale at a reasonable price through Carmax. I had it shipped to Northern Virginia and bought it the day it arrived. I've had it for about a month now and it's a lot of fun.

I saw that some of the VA/MD/DC VXers met over the summer and I look forward to meeting others and comparing vehicles.

Hello everyone! IM a newbie to the VX but not to the offroad vehicle. I used to draw vehicles just like the VX as a kid (you know kids imagination, not sure what happened to that!) and then i saw one in my dads motor trend several years back and was like wow that is cool and forgot about it as i was still pretty young and could barely afford my first 87 dodge charger,,that thing hugged the road really well and was fun to drive(but not near as fun as the vx!) Well then i got a Isuzu pup truck as a young 19 yr old punk kid and put a lift on it and big wheels and tires and did all the body and paint work myself and took that thing everywhere and tore it up pretty good. That thing was really fun offroad because it was so light, I never got stuck and my buddy did all the time with his Z71 (he was mad) I was impressed with the offroad ability of that little POS truck but this thing blows it all away. I saw one again last fall and had to have it,,,I just got mine a month ago and am LOVING it. This is by far the coolest looking suv or truck or car out there,,,I like to call it the moon rover. FUN fun fun! Hello to all vxers in OHIO! Go Bucks!

I came across this site and thought I would introduce myself to fellow Vehicross drivers. I have a 99 ebony that I totally dig to drive, love it...love it...love it!!! I dont see many in Atlanta, I have seen only two others on local roads, an Ironman edition and another black one. Would love to find out if there is a Vehicross group that gets together every once in a while.

Sup Yo!
I Remember when the Vehicross first came out, I traveled an hour and change to the one place I had found that had them. I Sat in it and marveled. Couldn’t afford it then of course but I knew I had to have one someday.

The funny thing is I've never been a truck or jeep or 4X4 person. I've always been a low profile sports car dude. Last winter I nearly killed several people due to snow so I decided I needed a truck. I spent this whole summer trying to get a Vehicross. There were so many obstacles that I almost didn’t get one. I almost got one in Oregon from someone who's on this site, Dallas-something I don’t remember his whole name but we talked and I hesitated and procrastinated cause it was so, so far and when I had decided to go for it (offered to fly me out there and everything)...naturally it was sold. But I did find one in Pennsylvania which, was a trek and a half (three hour ride took half a day). And I must say I am thrilled with it.

What I love best is people not knowing what it is.

Hey to all the VXers,

Just picked up my 01 Black VX about a week ago. Prior to that, I borrowed a friend's Ironman Edition and fell in love with it. That was years ago. But now I must say that I'm a proud owner of my own.

Now it's time to start the modification process :)

I want a VX.

They are cleary the raddest vehicle on or off the road. As a West Coast urbanite, a small, muscular, super trick little unit like this is perfect for me...a welcome upgrade in to the world of true 4x4 from my beloved Subaru Justy, which is on it's last legs.

I'll be surfing this site to school myself and hope to have some intellegent questions in the near futre. In the mean time, please feel free to drop any buying leads, hints, or caveats my way as I gear up to join this enthusiastic little vein of sub-culture.

Hello everyone,
I purchased my 2000 Ebony in April. My first sighting of one was in Col. Springs, CO in January '04. That's when I knew I had to have one. I've put about 6,000 miles on it and enjoyed every one of them. Especially when I catch people trying to figure out what make/model it is. It's debadged except for the wheels and grille.
I joined this site in September but had been browsing around here for a while prior. I look forward to sharing information and stories in the future.

Sup Everybody, I'm from Brooklyn, I already have a muscle car, but RWD and 400 HP isnt doing it for me on the snow. I really like the VX and I think they are phat. I still remember seeing it with my dad at the autoshow, we both liked it but never though I would be intrested in buying one.
I really like what you guys do on this site and as I read on, I get more and more intrested in a VX. So, currently I'm looking for a fairly priced VX. Thanx.

Hi everyone! I first saw the VX in the online report from the tokyo auto show back in 97. Then i saw it again on a chinese magazine and saw a movie star driving one and it showed that it has a camera for a rearview camera. I was like Holy C**&, that's like a car from the future. Then after years of saving and looking for one that cheap enough to buy I finally bought one last month. I took a bus from vancouver canada to seatac airport in Seattle and got my flight canceled and they did a full body search pouring all my belonging out of my bag because i changed my flight in the last min. I told them the flight got canceled and i didn't want to change it. I was suppose to head to texas but delta airline decided i should go to atlanta georgia instead. After half a day which started at 6am i finally reach Austin Texas at 2am. I could of flew to china in that time! So i met up with Kick who sold me his 99 vx for an awesome price and started my 3000mile drive back to Canada. Along the way i even hit a snow storm near Reno and was forced into town for half a day cause the hwy was white out. Then after another day and half of driving I finally got home and I think that is the longest drive i'll ever have in my life! But it's all worth it cause i think i might be the only person in Cananda that drives a VX eh!

Hey everyone just like to let everyone all know I am a new VehiCROSS owner. I'm 16 and a student/lifeguard. Before i had my VehiCROSS i owned a 1996 eagle talon (modded) and a 1999 3.0 cl. I decided to get rid of the Acura after i heard of the transmission problems they had, so after searching and almost buying a few different cars, almost got a bmw M3 but the seller was a jerk or i almost got a benz c36, but after realizing that i would need this car for the winter RWD was outta the question. I then started looking into SUV's until i had it narrowed down to either an RX300 or ML320, then i found a VehiCROSS for sale near by and thought it be perfect for me, bold styling (more looks the the M3, 2 doors sporty, and 4x4/V6. I decided i had to have it and this past saturday i picked up my 1999 ironman. Let me tell you i have been driving my moms car to school (jaguar) and my VX gets so many more looks its insane im absolutly in love and i look forward to modding

Hi all!!

I'm the proud new owner of a 99 VX! I've been driving a '97 Honda Prelude SH since it was new, and with 145k miles on it, I decided its time for something a hundred thousand miles (or so) fresher. I started scanning used car sites for a replacement, and I was open to suggestion. I saw "Isuzu" in a drop-down menu and thought of the VX, which I fell in horny high school lust with when I first read about it in the April 1999 issue of Car and Driver.

So I searched a few sites for it, found all of three ads for VXs in the NY-CT-MA area. A little phone work led me to the only one still available... two blocks off the route to my father-on-law's house, which we were going to on Saturday anyway. It was so cherry, I had no reason to NOT to buy it! Well, a few days and a few signatures later, and I own the mutha! I just dropped it of for its 45k service and a good going-over, since I have no clue what the maintenance history is. This VX started out in sunny Florida, then came up to Queens two years later, and now it has a new home in CT.

When I can find some time, I'll scan these posts for some upgrade ideas. This bizzle pulls, but alittle more power is always welcome. See ya!

I traveled 800 mi. and paid cash for my VX.
I felt better about it after searching this site and finding out the problem with the power windows was common and easily fixed (hopefully, I'm waiting for better weather to fix mine). My CD changer only fills a hole in the console (broken?) but I just plug in my Ipod.:p
I don't care for the rear visablity, and may get a camera.$$$$$...Mirror.$$$$

2000 Proton VX purchased on 12/21/04.

I have been searching for a third car for the family to ease the miles on my other cars (eclipse&galant) for about 2 months. I was really in the market for the is300 and rx8.

When all of a sudden an add popped up for a VX. It brought back a vivid memory of mine back in 2000 when I was looking at a Rodeo. I remembered getting in the showroom VX and was just overwhelmed by its design both inside and out.

The wife was sold on it since it's a bigger car/truck than what I was looking at plus it's an automatic. Anyways, we plucked this debadged beauty and we are both loving it. A great deal considering it only had 49K miles on it.

Please note that I did a thorough research on it especially using this forum. Thank you all for your posts.

I tearfully sold my first car, a 1973 240z, because of its diminished utility to me. I'm in the Army, and will eventually leave CA...if I were to stay here for the rest of my life, I would have kept it. As it stood, I had no use for two 2-seat sports cars (I also have a 3rd gen RX-7). I was looking into a small truck for utility (pref. with 4x4, 5spd)...looked over the new 2005 tacoma, scared away by price...ditto new frontiers.

I was really close to buying a jeep wrangler or liberty...I looked into isuzu amigos/rodeo-sports, as my parents have a 190,000 mile Trooper that keeps on ticking with no problems. In my search I found info on a VX. I remember these back in 1999-2000, but my rule of measure has always been: "If it costs more than $30k, you may as well spring for a corvette." But in 2004, I found the price of a VX was much more attractive...

4 week search, some haggling, got me a 1999 Astral Silver with 52k miles. I love the wrangler-offroad-ability and the nothing-like-it ONroad-ability. I wanted something with (relatively) more hauling room than a 2seat sports car...preferrably with 4wd...i found a lot more in the VX.

That was pretty much my guiding philosophy as well -nothing over $30k makes sense to me.

Tonight I traded my 400hp WRX for a '01 Ironman. Tired of shifting gears I guess. Now I just need some boost.... ;Dy;

More sports-car-to-VX crossovers! It's funny that the VX is the SUV of choice for those that have been driving sports cars. My Prelude SH served me well, even in the winter (with snow tires), but the VX makes winter driving almost too easy... I've found myself limited to driving 20 mph on snowy roads because everyone else is having such a rough time of it, even though I could be doing 40 mph without any problems. Of course, ANY vehicle still has a tough time stopping on icy roads, as I noted yesterday while sliding past my turn-off. :yeso:

Hello to all you VX admirers, owners, etc...

My name is Diana and finally after about a month of working with a seller up North, I have a 1999 Ebony VX. Flew to Chicago over the weekend, picked my baby up and drove 10 hours home. So now that I'm official, I just wanted to say hello and intro myself. After taking a good look around this site over the past couple months, I can certainly see why you are such a tight knit little clan. I hope you all won't mind my asking questions as they come up about my V. and in advance, I will say from the heart a huge thank you!

Hi to all. I purchased my '01 Proton Yellow VX today and will be driving it home tomorrow. I almost bought a new VX several years ago, after doing much research at the old forum. For reasons I can't recall at the moment, I talked myself out of buying the truck, and have regretted it ever since. (New VXs were gone from the dealers shortly after that.) This past weekend, when I saw this "pre-owned" one in my favorite color, I had to get it. Who knows if I'll ever have another chance to own such a unique vehicle. Anyway, I hope the truck lasts for a good long while (it has about 60,000 miles on it). I look forward to enjoying my VX, and this site, in the years ahead.

Hi All,
I read a magazine review on what was described as "Darth Vaders weekend vehicle". I was taken by the radical design immediately : so unconventional ! Finally had the chance to purchase my first new car and negotiated immediately for a super deal in 2000 ; appropriate to greet the new millenium with a VX.
I love the thing. Still runs well after 4 years and have never seen anything that can compete.
Thanks to all the people on the Board who have helped me out with questions and solutions to typical issues.
Safe driving everyone!

Hello all....new to the site and boy was I glad to find you guys! Already completed many of the mods mention that you all posted. Love my VX, had it since Feb 2000. Already completed the Turn Signal Mod, Antenna Mod, Shifter replacement, Bedlinered the Hood insert (Line-X next), replaced the front markers with Fog lights, added a set of fog lights upfront too! Looking at doing a Car PC, DVD, Navigation, Rear Cam combo. If any one has done one, would love to hear about it! I ordered a hitch from ToneMonday, should arrive this week. Now I can tow my other baby, 99' CBR1100XX Blackbird. Going through a divorce, have too much time on my hands now....I am sure mods will keep me busy! Thanks again for such a great site!

Greetings:

Just got my 99 silver VX right before Xmas. I have been looking at them ever since they came out, but didnt get lucky enough to find one that was right time, right place, etc. Stumbled on an immaculate 1999 Ironman and scooped it up with low (30k) miles on it. What a great performance vehicle. Its the type of vehicle I need since I move around to different environments every few years (Army.)

After only a few weeks I have debadged the rear, and the Ironman logo. It already had 6 CD Alpine in it and a cone filter. I also upgraded the round running lights to the 18watt type. Eventually I would like to get the black safari bumper and side bars, Trooper skid plate. Next thing though is to fix the usual window buckling problem.

I'll probably hang onto this vehicle for 10 yrs plus, like I did my 94 Isuzu Amigo. (The Amigo was told to move down the bench..) which I am currently cleaning up to sell.

December 2nd (2004) I flew to Chicago and picked up my 2001 Ebony VX and drove it back down here to Texas (about 20 hour drive to Houston). I thought it was a good way to get to know my new VX (and save money on shipping it). I absolutely loved the VX's when they came out, but considering I was just a graduating senior from high school in 1999 I couldn't exactly afford one, but I waited and my dream VX was put up for sale exactly when someone decided to back into my legally parked Grand Prix and total it (while I was volunteering at a church youth function[Talk about divine intervention]). So now I own my dream vehicle and plan to baby it and have fun in it at the same time. I bought it with exactly 51,000 on it and in a month and 19 days I have put over 4,000 miles on it already!

Greetings, fellow VX owners. I'm excited to be in the company of such distingished drivers. I fell in love with this SUV at first sight back in '99 but didn't start looking for one until 2003. Finally saw postings for VX's on ebay and got outbidded everytime. Finally, after a long serch, I found one on CarMAX that was surprisingly in great condition. So I didn't let this opportunity pass me by. Now, I'm the proud owner of a '99 Ebony VX here in Charlotte, NC. Look out QC! So thanks to all of you, in advance, for helping me with all my crazy modification ideas. I know this will be a great resource to have at my disposal. Beep, Beep to all the VX owners/drivers in Charlotte.

Peace...

I discovered the VX by chance, while shopping for a small SUV to haul around random things and my 2 large dogs (bullmastiff and great dane/akita mix).

I was looking for vehicles on the Carmax website under Isuzu with my bf, when we spotted the model name "Vehi-Cross", which sounded kinda cool and strangely familiar. We immediately "googled it" to find out more about this neat looking little crossover.
I personally love all things the slightest bit modern/contemporary and immediately made up my mind that's the vehicle I wanted!

I ended up having my grey VX transported from a Carmax in Albuquerque, NM to Raleigh, NC. It took a couple of weeks, but well worth the wait and the extra dough to have it brought over.

Currently my baby is having a custom audio install done. I will post lots of pics as soon as I get her back!

I would also like to get in contact with fellow VX owners in the RDU/ NC area. Maybe we can all go off-roading one day! It'd be fun! Haha. :p

Austin Robot Technology (http://www.austinrobot.com) has selected a VX as the off-road vehicle to serve as a platform for our robotic entry into the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge (http://www.darpa.mil/grandchallenge). We have made many mods to the VX to enable drive-by-wire (computer control) and to add sensors for input to the computer. I'm hoping members of this club will act as consultants on off-road matters. I will post specific questions on other forum threads. Thanks for any help.

like many here, I saw the VX when they were just talking bout it coming to the States, I thought damn that would be awesome to own and I saw the list price as originally somewhere around $15,000 in Motor Trend, well when I finally saw one at a dealership and saw it was listed at $35,000 I was really pissed and dissappointed, I couldn't justify buying on a pvt's military salary. I was pretty jealous anytime I saw a guy driving one, my first actual test drive of the VX was a 2001 Proton that was bought by a local radio station here in DC which I did some live shows with and they let me drive it to a couple of concerts to advertise the station.... I LOVED all the looks I got and head turns, but I also loved the fact I got to get to know the VX for free :) it just fueled my addiction. Now I'm in a position to buy one. I'd prefer a 2001 Ironman and I've seen one or two 01's in GA (53,000 for $15,900) and IL (33,000 and price not listed) and a 00 in NJ 27,900 for $17,999 for sale listed on auto trader, cars.com and eBay. Also a 01 silver w/red and black seats in MD w/ 40,000 for $16,000. So needless to say my choices are pretty varied, but I'm getting ancy trying to find the right one. But when I do I'll be sure to come on here an announce it.

Good day, eh,

Well, after many sleepless nights, and lots of error checking, I drove across the border last night with no complications and gave Canada another VX. (In this thread I only saw one other member introduce themselves from Canada - there's gotta be more of you - drop me line fellow Canadians)

I first saw the VX in 1999 in a car mag, I wanted it. I contacted my local ISUZU dealer to look into one, and I was told tough luck, they're not sold in Canada and can't bring one in. So I bought an XTerra, it was cool being one of the few in the City for a couple of years- now they're everywhere. So six years later, I'm bored with my X, so I started looking... Then I remembered the VX, I did some research on the net and came across VehiCROSS.info (AMAZING SITE), after 5 minutes I was hooked - whatever it took, I was going to get one. So I set the ball in motion; federal approvals, import broker, etc...

I knew I wanted a 2001 ebony with red interior. If was going to go through the effort I could not settle for less. I figured it would take me a few months to find one- it took me a week. I found it on a used car web site near Chicago, it was just posted. I called them accepted their price sent them a cheque the next day. There was no test drive, only saw 4 pictures of it, the first time I saw it and touched it was when I picked it up yesterday. This confidence (or insanity) was based on hours of reading through this site with so many jazzed and happy owners. You guys didn't let me down, this vehicle exceeded my expectations. She's got 31K and still looks new in and out.
You'll likely be seeing a lot of me in the other sections asking for some input on modifications, I'm like a kid in a candy shop looking at the various mods you people have done; "I want that, I want that, and that, and that ....."

My wife loves it too, always a plus.(She though I lost my mind buying this vehicle over the phone, I think I proved her part ways wrong.)

Well, thanks for letting me chat like an excited kid, see you in the forums.

Cheers,
Ken

FUNNY STORY...
After driving 14 hours and 840 miles from the dealer to my home without incident last night, I was nabbed at 1:30 in the morning by a photoradar less than a mile from home running a yellow doing 50mph in a 35mph zone. That "Power" button going to cost me good.

And if you think that's funny, two days ago I rear ended a crazy driver with my XTerra- the day before I was going to take it off the road! I haven't had an accident in 14 years!

Ken,

Welcome to the list. This forum is one of the largest benefits to owning a VX. If you have any questions someone will usually respond within minutes. Congratulations and look forward to your posts.

I first saw the VX back in 1998 as I faced graduation from the University of Colorado and looked forward to getting rid of my Bronco. Then reality hit and the salary that a research biologist made meant settling for less ... far far less actually, a Subaru that plagued me with surviving much longer than it should have. 7 years later and a new job outside of government funded research has meant the income to afford the one car that I've lusted after all these years. I purchased a 2000 Dragon Green with 50k miles on it for $13k ... a good price from what I could tell but considering it's a VX, I would have paid more and still been just as happy. And having a community like this just proves that the VX is a true treasure in the history of the automobile that will surely not fade.

Hello everybody,

My name is Adam Rapp and I have owned Suzie for about 2 years. I was looking for a small SUV and found a Vehicross in Massachusetts that was posted on this site. I took a drive to Providence to see what the heck a VX was. After on test drive I fell in love. Suzie is awesome. Living in CT and taking many trips to the White Mountains she has never failed me. I am originally from PA and she has taken quite a few trips back there. Our most recent journey was to my new home in Houston. She likes the warm weather and ocean, but misses the mountains in the east. I hear there are some good hills in Moab :)

My friends and girlfriend always thought I was a freak when I would go crazy if I saw another VX. I have had sightings in Atlanta, DC, here in Houston, traveling through PA, Hartford, and most impressively.....St. John in the Carribean...I would like to findout who that was...I went nuts.

Looking foward to being part of the community.

Hi everyone

I just bought my first Vx this afternoon. I'm still feeling my way around the site, and I accidentally intoduced myself on the wrong thread-oops! My name is Darrell, I'm 40 and I live in Fallbrook, CA (San Diego county) with my Very cool (actually,I think she's pretty hot) wife Cherie. I told her about the Vx, and she said "sounds GREAT- go get it"( told you she was cool)! No kids yet, just the dogs (hmmm.. maybe that's why it was so easy)? I'm a corporate pilot and I fly a Falcon 900- for those who care about airplanes :laughy: I am on a trip in Iowa and drove by a dealer and saw my Vx- ebony 1999 (It called to me, you know). Had to jump on It 'cause I leave tomorrow AM. Thanks to the folks who responded to my questions earlier- I really appreciate it. So finally my 2 year quest is over. Cherie (nickname Buff) insists on road tripping it home with me in the next few weeks. She knows a fun time when she sees it! Any groups out in the San Diego area?
Great forum - I'll be here often. Maybe I ought to sell my Quad now.....

Hello,
Well, I picked up my 01 proton Thursday in Ohio, drove it to Panama City, Fl for 2 days, then back home to Dallas. All in all 1800 miles from the previous owners door to mine. I can tell it has the standard window and headlight seal issues, although not bad yet. But overall it is very clean and runs really nice. My only concern is the rust that is present which the owner had told me wasn't. I did buy it sight unseen so was expecting some things like this. I took it through some mud in Tenesseee, and deep sand in Florida, and it never even thought about getting stuck. While cruising the strip in Panama City I received several positive comments, while one girl felt compelled to shout out that it was ugly. I guess she thought her stock 2003 Explorer was nicer. But she didn't even catch my eye so I bet she was just as avarage as her ride. (I'm not knocking Explorer's, Just snobby girls) Mine got all the ladies attention, even if they didn't like it. Yes. I love it.

First sighting of the VX was 3 days after picking up my 98 Trooper, having driven nothing but Isuzu’s since 84 and being a totally loyal fan of this great company…. I said to my wife while passing the UGLY thing “what the #$% are the folks at Isuzu thinking!” … “They’re not going to sell many of those!” A week later I saw one on the road…. Hmmm, I guess it’s not that bad look’n. After about a month I wanted one but couldn’t justify dumping the Trooper with all the room having two kids etc. Long story short… Trooper has been sold to my friend with 150K… Kids are both in College and have their own cars and I GOT MY VEHICROSS!

Hey guys. I guess the SUV MAGs forum died. That's how long i've been out of it. I got my Proton Yellow VX back in 2000. I was planning to get an Amigo but while I was at the dealer, I saw a Vx and immediately loved it. The sales guy let me take it for a spin, and that was my decision.

This was a the Cadillac dealer in Santa Monica, and I have previously and can confirm again that the guys there are jerks. I ended up driving 2 hours south to the Jeep Dealer in Placentia to get one of the few Yellow Vx's.

For 5 years now I've driven and loved my Vx. Coming up on only 60k (I go easy on her I guess) and she still drives like a dream. Have had a few of the known issues (window binding, seals) and I've come back here to get some advice on fixes and maybe mods.

Call me what you will, but I've never been able to bring myself to take her serious off-roading. Now that she's a little older, you may see me at some of the meets and out in the rocks though. Cheers.

My name is BO, I live in Staunton Va. I have owned my VX since jan. of 04 and have loved every minute. Even with it being a 2000 people ask me if it's new. It was the only one around for about a year now there is one or two more that have shown up.
I have been on this site a few times, and I thank it's great. There is alot of useful info.I hope to learn more.

I had an old trooper, manual trans, 4WD for a long time...it ran great, through all sorts of weather, never once even thought about getting stuck in snow 30 inches deep...it truly was a real trooper. Then, I saw the VX in a trade mag in 1998, and from that point onward, dreamed of owning one some day (couldn't afford it new at the time). Bought my first VX last year, and love it. Found it on eBay at a dealer not too far from home, went to see it, and bought it. Will never sell it, and hope to buy another in a year or so. Should hold its value over time, as only a very limited number were produced. But, even if it doesn't, I'm still holding onto it!

The only thing I was disappointed about when first learning of the VX was the transmission...I wished it were manual, both boxes...I like having the control, not a chip! Oh well...maybe someday I'll make one manual.

My name is Gerry<Vxdude22 I have a 1999 Vx Ironman., #0128. I bought it "used" from a Jeep dealer in Princeton, NJ on December 31, 2002. It had approximately 65k miles on it when I purchased it,and in 2 1/2years I have only put on 7k additional miles. Its essentially a weekend ride for me, but I do use it more in the winter months because of the exceptional handling of the TOD 4wd system. I have only replaced the stock battery with a red top optimal battery due to the suggestions that i have read by the majority on this forum. I also had the 60k service performed by the dealer<fred beans isuzu>. I do my own oil changes and have converted to mobil 1 oil and oil filter due to the suggestions that i have read on this forum.
I remember seeing the Vehicross for the very first time in April 1999 on a dealers lot.......i was struck by the space age appeal that it had and ignorrant as to what was under the hood. The price tag was too much for my wallet "new" but i managed to be able to afford the "used" Vehicross in 2002. The dealer replaced the driver side window regulator for me<free> as a condition of the sale and i glued the rubber around the front headlights myself. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and I hope I can match "Randy from Florida's" mileage on his 99 Ironman....I believe the last post that I read, he had 176k.....WoW!!!! Thanks for listening....Gerry.

I bought my VX new off the showroom floor back in 2000.....

It was only after seeing articles about the VX being one of the few futuristic auto-show cars of 93' that made it to the assembly line that I started loving the exterior concept of the vehicle. I had a dream that I was driving one in the mountains, and went and test drove one at the dealership the next weekend. As luck would have it, I have my dream car and it has been a great ride for the last 4+ years.

Hey, Ive been here for a week but i finally got time to do this.

I'm Greg and according to my profile, I live in Napa Valley, CA. I first saw a VX back in '99 when some lady in town bought one. Ever since then i have been intrested in them and such. It just so happened that someone wanted to pay me a lot of money for my previous car ('01 VW Golf 1.8T), so I took that cash and bought a 1999 Silver VX.

I am not new to online forums, but i am new to this site, so bare with me if I sound like a newb here with this car.

I also own a '93 Jeep YJ with to much to list in mod's. Good times...Good times.

Hiya,

I first learned about the VX prior to it's first release when my sister-in-law was looking for a car. I ended up getting a used one in '01 when I stumbled across one at a Ford Dealer when they told me the noise in the new Focus I had was normal. I left with the VX and ditched the Ford.

54,000 mi at $19,500 in July 01 for a '99. Currently has 103,000, an engine overhaul after the started died and usually ends up toting around a back end load of junk for my business most of the time.

Personally, I call mine the Stoopid-mobile, and think that the front end has the basic look of a snake, so I am planning a paint scheme to reflect that someday, just for fun.

New to the site, but I perused it a few months ago when I was loooking to buy a VX. It didn't turn out, and I'm waiting for the right financial situation to try again.

I have been drooling over the VX since the day it came out, and I even remember seeing Gary Sinese driving a jeep-style VX (no roof, just roll bars) in a movie I saw a couple years ago. I was bummed when I found out it wasn't a production vehicle...

Anyway, I'll be reading and posting as time goes on... And looking for a VX of my own!

Hi all you crazy vx'rs.

I've had my black 99 for bout a yr and half and love it. (except for the costly repair bills). I had never heard or seen one til the day I bought it. I was out perusing car lots, not really sure if I was looking seriously or not, when I saw this odd futuristic looking suv and of course I just had to get a closer look. A quick test drive later and I was the proud owner of "stubby". Thats what we call him since he's so short and fat. :) I now have a little over a 100,000 miles on him and am finding out how expensive the upkeep is. As much as I love him I'm debating on whether its enough to keep him. My son loves the looks we get everywhere we go, but he hates climbing in and out of the back seat.
Anyway, I'm going to keep reading the postings here while I make up my mind what to do with him.
I've seen several vx's here in the Portland Or, Vancouver Wa. area.

Hi all...

Ok....I will be the first to admit, I never liked the ISUZU Rodeos, trooopers, nor would date any guy who owned one because they were just boxes on wheels as far as I was concerened (sorry, not trying to hurt feelings).

Well...this all seemd to take a turn last week when my friend bought hers, used (new to her) VehiCROSS....I was in love when she pulled up with it.

Cute and sporty and perfect for my new get around town car....but asked her who it was made by and she said.....ISUZU

Where are you Los Angeles VX'ers..... :)
This city is filled with other vehicles, and they all look the same..

So...this is how I found VehiCROSS by searching for used VX's...and your site came up....Kudos for such a nice site....

I would love to make my city a VX'er community, and introduce the gals of the beach to them as well....perfect for my niece too who will be driving soon...

So...long story already long.... :p , I am off with my friend this afternoon to go used VX shopping and do some major researching here (great site) before I do so. (Found one in silver online that I like already)
I am soooooo excited, and will fill you in on details upon my adventurous returns. :)

Quite sure I will have questions, as I am not going to buy today ( I promised I would not), I am going to buy with knowledge first, not becuase I am a girl who can impulse buy in a heartbeat.... :)

Thank you for listening, and thank you for having this site for us gals too...

Hi,

Purchased my VX about a month ago. Passenger window failed a few days ago. :( I Discovered ceramic tab that bolts to regulator at bottom of window became unglued. Probably due to the well documented "window binding" problem. I've done the window fix per the posting I've seen on this site...but what kind of glue/epoxy/sticky-stuff do I use to fasten the ceramic tab back on to the bottom of the window? .

I'm also in the market for a roof rack...Any leads?

Hey Y'all! Sorry - just had to throw in some Southernese... I am new to the site but bought my VX back in '99. It is Astral Silver Red/Black. I still love it! It still makes me smile everytime I look at it. Everyone at work (NASA) says it looks like a moonbuggy or a tennis shoe. I am looking for meets in the SE area - and would love to meet other local VXers - I have seen a couple around town.

I was originally going to buy a Rodeo, went on the ISUZU website to quote one, saw the VX and fell in love at first site! I called the local dealer and they did not have one but said they would locate and get me one if I bought it first - sight unseen - no test drive. NO WAY! So I hit Google and looked for dealers in a 200 mile radius - emailed them all - found one in Birmingham that responded the next day that had one on the lot. Drove to B'ham that day - drove it - and bought it right on the spot. I have not once regretted it. Best vehicle I have ever owned!

I really hate they stopped making these things but still hope they come out with the 2 seater convertible one...

Anyway, this is a great site and I'm glad to be part of an elite group of people that own VXs!

This is a love story....

I saw a Vehicross for the first time in 1999 sitting on the lot of a dealer in Blacksburg, Va. My mouth dropped and I haven't stopped drooling since. I would go by at least like once a week to the lot and just stare. It was around 35,000 and I was a starving college student. I thought of any possible way that I could raise the money. Selling organs, becoming a stripper..etc. :p But before I knew it the Vehicross was gone. I never forgot that Vehicross, kept a picture in my album for years!! Finally, about 3 months ago my trustly lil Rav4 had an engine attack and just gave up the ghost. (No offense to the Rav's, the are sturdy lil cars, I just tortured the hell outta mine) So I set my heart on purchasing the Vehicross. I am still a starving college student but I found a lady in Texas with a gorgeous 1999, Astro Silver one for under $10,000. I jumped on a plane and flew to Texas on a whim and a dream. : ) My vehicross was all that I hoped it would be, and we spent the next 22 hrs bonding on the drive back here to VA : ) Our realtionship has only gotten stronger, and I know that we will be together forever. *wipes a joyful tear from eye*

So needless to say... IT IS SO F*ING GOOD TO BE HERE!!!

WEll first time i saw a Vx was here in Louisiana. (yes Louisiana can you believe it!) in 2000. ever since then i have been wanting one with a passion. however the price tag at the time was a little too high for me. then recently my car i had started to go out on me and thinking it was about time to get a new vehicle. after a few months of doign research online, (how i found this site) i descided that i was definatly goign to get a Vx. had to take a trip to Montana to get it. and had a very good long drive on the way back! the Vx is everythign i dreamed it would be and more! i only wish that they had a few other Vx's close by that i could get to meet some of the other owners and maybe go to a few meets. now all my friends want Vx's as well!!! anyway i am very glad to get my Vx and will never turn back from it! cant wait to do quite a few mods to it when i can get the money. already installed a better alarm system for it. i will try to post some pics later of some of the mods i plan on doing!

I LOVE MY VX!!

I have lusted for a VX ever since I followed one up the xway last year trying to figure out what kind of vehicle it was! finally found one in dragon green-a 2001- in northern new york with 15K on it. the VX is everything I hoped it would be and more-I have been detailing it all week and it must be the cleanest and shiniest one around-almost. this will be my winter car-except I can't seem to abandon it as yet-our driveway is on a hill and I am tired of getting stuck in the back yard! this site has helped me already as I had a binding window-fixed now-many thanks. a question-should I invest in an extra spiffy air filter? will this help mileage?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I bought my VX in May 2001, Don's Isuzu on Rt 22 in NJ almost wouldn't let me leave the lot until I agreed to buy it. It was listed at $31.5 and I actually argued with the sales guy that I didn't want it 'cause it was yellow and an automatic. The manager finally said "how much would you pay for it." After seeing the invoice, which was $28K and change, I said $24.6, with tags, taxes, a zero interest loan and my 1993 Escort GT as a trade.

I am the crappiest wheeler dealer in the world and I tend to get ripped off all the time. So, you know...Don's Isuzu was trying to unload the VX on me at any reasonable price. I think I saw the sales manager jumping up and down for joy when I drove it off the lot 3 hours later. He probably got a $50 commission on the deal. Wow, looking at the used prices they're going for now, I was so fortunate (which I'm usually not) to have purchased it new.

Driving home down Rt 22, the very first comment I got about VX was from a guy in a car yelling out his window... "that's the ugliest THING I've ever seen." Oh great, I thought. I bought a vehicle with fangs and it's not a cookie cutter yuppie SUV to go with my stupid corporate management job.

Bing! Right then and there I knew I loved that little VX! I hope I don't ever have to sell it. As the years go by, I tend to be more protective of it because it draws a lot of attention and there are some wacky people out there that have no respect for other people's property. Last May I officially retired the little proton as my secondary vehicle and got a Wrangler as my daily driver. So it sits in the garage until the weekend. My favorite thing to do is to take my dog Suede (she's part Basenji and sat in a kennel for 3 years until I adopted her from North Carolina) for a ride to the park. I guess I have a tendency to collect things that no one wants.

Oh well, that's my short story. Thank you to all the folks that make this web site happen. It's great reading about all your VX experiences.

I have always wanted to own a Vehicross but since it is such a rare item here in Thailand and at an unbelievable price of USD 60,000 a few years back. My luck changed a week ago when a friend told me that there is one for sale and has only 20,000kms on it ( not sure how much in miles ). I made a visit to see the car and absolutely loved it. It is a 1997 Japan Domestic Model in Black and in almost new condition. The car was purchased today and will be in serviced by Isuzu tomorrow as it was only serviced once in the duration of 8 years. The previous owner owns several cars took good care of it and has all original parts including the reverse rear camera and fabric Recaro seats. Will post pics in a day or two.

Hi,

I'm Paul and I live in Essex (just left of London) in the UK. I bought my 97 JDM in red a week or so ago so I'm just getting settled in. I've only managed about a thousand miles in the first week so I'm taking it easy. Mileage is about 49000 and it's been in this country for 7 years - so I was surprised to find out that the radio was still only receiving the Japanese frequency range! So far I've got a range extender on order and I've had a custom stainless exhaust fitted. My next tasks are a roof rack and a parcel to stop the loval chavs looking in my boot (trunk). I'm very jealous of the US meets and off roading - is there any interest in the UK of organising anything similar?

Today is our first day with our new (err...new to us, anyway!) Vx. We drove 3.5 hours to pick up a '99 Ebony black (according to the paperwork, the 5th black one built that came stateside. Not that it really means anything, but it's neat useless trivia!), and even after more than 7 hours of driving, we had to take it out to play as soon as we got home!

We now have four black vehicles (I know, we're crazy). We have an '05 RSX Type-S, an '87 XJ (Cherokee Wagoneer) (de-woodied and modded for offroading), and a '93 4.0L YJ (Wrangler), but we just put the YJ up for sale. Three SUVs is a bit much for a childfree couple with small dogs. :)

Vxs are HARD to come by in this area. We saw our first (yellow) Vx back in 2001, just after we bought a brand new yellow Ford Escape XLT - talk about instant buyers' remorse! We loved that little Escape, but ever since then, we've never been able to get the Vx off our minds! A few weeks ago, we decided to go for it...and today, we have a nearly mint '99 in our garage! We're hoping it'll be a great, reliable 4WD for our pending move up north (probably Michigan or Pennsylvania). If nothing else, it's already turning heads! That, and our neighbors think we're insane. Ahh well. :p

Like most of you, I love cars !! Always have since a kid .. when I turned 16 ( in Canada this is the legal driving age) I got my licence the same day.. that afternoon I bought my first car .. been thru several since then .. !
Had several 4 wheel drives in my time as well .. drove some hard, some not .. race track cars to this day .. my 600hp 300 ZX TT is about the fastest thing I've ever tracked, and is nicknamed the "Viper-eater" ..
All this said .. I have a new passion .. my new VX .. what a sweet vehicle !!
It has been great getting on your site and getting the same feedback from other owners .. so much in this "little truck" .. Looking forward to learning more about it, and will rely on many of you to help coach me please in what to / and not to do with it .. not looking for 600 hp, however will have this modified in no time .. today was a wonderful day ..minus 20 degrees, lots of snow, and guess who is driving circles around everyone !! Great driving..
Cheers for now ... Kip

Hi all, just got mine a month ago and what an awsome car. Previously owned a Mitshbishi 3000 VX4, 325 hp, twin turbo chargers, dual intercoolers, 4 wheel steering. My Vehicross is like it's little brother.

As the name implies I'm an Aircraft Mechanic/Inspector in Denver, Colorado and I look forward to the spring and some local off roading.

This is a great web site.

Thanks.

My '96 GMC Sonoma was getting worn out. :( I have a project crawler Jeep and an Army truck but I wanted a new comfortable daily driver. And so I decided I wanted another something different, something you don't see too often... something to take me "farther"... What's this...? A VehiCROSS?! I forgot all about them! I had read about them when they first came out and thought they were funky cool but I had forgotten about them. How could I? Well I live in Wyoming and I have only seen one - yes, ONE! - here! EVER! When I found out how rare they are I got even more excited but nervous. So I kept researching and the more I read about them the more I felt I "needed" one! :p I decided if I was ever going to own one the time is now. I had to drive 650 miles one way and into South Dakota to get mine! My "old reliable" truck barely made the drive and I had to drive my VX back in a snowstorm on a CLOSED highway... no worries though, i was still able to drive 75 after I relaxed a bit! (I may have been delirious with sleep deprivation and Recaro induced cockiness though!) I gotta say, it was worth the trip! 24 hours and 1300 miles later I was back home with a grin on my face because I now have an ebony '99 with 41,000 miles and I love it - custom wheels and tires are already on the way!

... and I shall call him... Lord Zeus!

I live in Chicago, and I remember back in the late nineties walking to work and seeing this auto-show looking concept vehicle from the moon. Whoa. Man was it cool. Looking back now it seems a bit before it's time, but I find myself wanting one now (2005). My wife has the Benz and I've been driving the paid for '97 4x4 Blazer to and from Home Depot and the train station to get to work. It's great in the winter, but since the kids are mostly grown I want my own cool vehicle (since we have a nice Miata for the summer). And the Blazer is looking (and feeling) long in the tooth these days. So, I'm in the market and trying to learn what I can about this cool truck. Love the clean lines of the black version, maybe remove some badges and add some things... who knows.

I've seen several vx's here in the Portland Or, Vancouver Wa. area. HEY! You called your VX a him! I do too! Don't most people, refer to their cars, as, "she"? Anyhow, DON'T SELL YOUR VX! Don't do it! You will regret it! Just think about what it would do to you.......not seeing it in your garage/driveway anymore! I would be devastated and I'd punch myself in the face, over and over and over again!! Anyway, my name is Laurie and my drug of choice is the VehiCROSS.ha,ha,ha Seriously, I have a question for you, 'George264'; Can you describe any of the VX's that you spotted in Portland? Also, how many have you seen in P-TOWN? Thank you for your time!

HI, EVERYONE! MY NAME IS JIMMY. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHERE I INTRODUCE MYSELF OR NOT, BUT I AM GOING TO. I LIVE IN LOVELAND, OH JUST NORTH OF CINCINNATI, OH. I PURCHASED A 2000 BLACK EBONY VX 3 MONTHS AGO. LOVE IT. I HAVEN'T SEEN ANOTHER AROUND HERE. FOUND THE VX ON AUTOTRADER.COM AT A USED CAR LOT UP IN VANDALIA, OH. AND HAD TO HAVE IT. 50,250 MILES ON IT. THE LAST 4 DIDGITS ARE 0283, MY INS. COMPANY CLAIMS ITS AN IRONMAN EDITION BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY OF THE EMBLEMS OR DECALS. I CARFAXED IT AND IT CAME FROM NEW YORK. I'M THE 2ND OWNER BESIDES THE DEALERS IT PASSED THROUGH TO GET TO OHIO. ONLY PROBLEMS SO FAR HAVE BEEN THE CD CHANGER AND THE PASSENGER WINDOW GETTING STUCK GOING UP. BUT THANKS TO THIS HELPFUL WEBSITE I'M SURE I'LL BE ABLE TO FIX ANY PROBLEMS THAT MAY OCCUR IN THE FUTURE.

(Cabana Boy because sometimes I think my sole purpose is to do whatever the wife wants)
Anyway, I picked up my new (2000 Kaiser Silver) VX Tuesday in Chicago. Drove that night back to OH. While fueling at a service plaza in IN I actually had the guy in the little glass booth come out to check the truck out, ask what it was and ask where he could get one. When told it was almost 6 years old he almost fell over. This from someone who must be pretty jaded from all the possible cars on the Tpike! He'd worked there 11 years.

Bought this on E-bay, from a dealer says he who got it from the auction. This car was a one owner and extreeeeeemly well taken care of. One would be very hard pressed to tell any difference from new condition except for the obvious modifications. I'd like to track the first owner bacause I'm sure I have not even found all the upgrades, and I'd sure like to take advantage of each.

Like I say, its a 2000 Kaiser silver with black and rey interior. Heres what I've found so far: Alpine blower, Lots of CF (shift, transfer, ebrake handles, wipers, mirror covers, hood insert with scoop), Extra gauges on top of dash (air/fuel mix, vac/bst), Accelerometer/G-meter, built in Passport RD, Alpine high end head unit with IPOD connectivity, HID Brightstar headlamp and park lamp conversion, Aluminum entry plates. Very loud aftermarket exhaust which may yet grow on me (a bit too ricey so far). All this installed to a high degree of quality. 48000 miles. I know theres more I'm leaving out. If anyone knows this perfectionist, please ask him to contact me in any way thru my profile so I can thank him and pick his brain.

More about us:
Im in trucking, wife is a professional volunteer(VFD,EMT and United Way). We live on an island (Johnsons) in Sandusky Bay, Lake Erie. Island is connected to mainland via causway which drifts badly in winter with any wind. This is the reason for our AWD vehicles. VX will be a little bro to a 1997 supercharged Range Rover. 1 kid still at home (M 14). This is the first vehicle I ever got that HE THINKS is cool. I am much impressed with the VX so far and I'm glad to be here too.

:)Hello, My name is Mel
I saw my first V-Cross at a local dealer about 4 yrs ago a drooled over it. After looking at the price tag, I knew I had to wait a couple of years... Now in 2006, I found a low mile White Ironman in Las Vegas and brought it back to California! This has been a great site for questions and info. Keep up the good work.

Hey All!

My first VX was a 99 Astral Silver. I bought it on the spot directly off my dealer’s showroom floor without even starting the motor. I really loved that car. My friends and I did things in it that I would never dream of doing again… and the VX always proved itself in every situation. I loved spending hours detailing it in the garage until sundown and having a car that looked so new to drive around in the next day. A dirty VX really cleans up nice. Around the same time I got rid of my first true love, I did the same with the VX. To this day I have regretted both decisions. For the past three years I have been watching eBay and other car postings to look at VX’s for sale. I never got up the nerve until now. My new 2001 Kaiser Silver with only 6,200 miles is on its way! Now all I have to do is keep working on getting back the girl. The reason I love the VX so much is that it inspires me. It is a destination vehicle, meaning not only is it fun to be inside of and drive, it kicks the adventurous spirit into gear, and it keeps me thinking about where I want to take the VX next. Lastly, in my opinion, the VX is only as fun and inspiring as those we share it with, those we trust enough to let them drive it off road, and today I thank you all for allowing me to share it with you.

Kind regards,

Perry

Hello Out There
I just acquired a 2000 silver VX (traded my 2000 Amigo) with 75000 mi. It's been in my state it's whole life, according to CARFAX. I was generally surprised by the condition of it. If I didn't know better I would think it was maybe a year old. When I bought my Amigo new in 2000, I wanted the Ironman VX sitting next to it, but couldn't swing it at the time. I'm thrilled to have it now. I've been reading the different posts for 3-4 days and enjoy reading what you all have to say. I didn't realize how few of these there were out there, and I'm excited to be a new member to your group. A couple of questions, while I'm here. Are these alot louder than the average 4-wheel drive truck or SUV? My wife keeps asking and I don't have anything to compare it to. Also, what kind of maintenance items should I be expecting to come up in the near future? Thanks

i have recently developed an affinity for this vehicle and as a result have made a unquestionable vow to own one. i remember seeing it for the first time on the car&driver t.v. show and falling for it. i was around 14 or so at the time so the thought of owning a 30,000 car was rediculas. now that i'm a little richer and thier a little cheaper this union is possible. unfortuneatly for reasons that are beond my control this will be long awaited achievement for me takeing anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. the two main problems are 1) i am curently in iraq as i am a soldier and will soon be redeploying back to germany makeing it difficult to purchase such a rare car state side and 2) i am in the current ownership of a 2004 pontiac vibe that is in the possesion of my father in california, wich was sort of an impulse buy i made with the signing bonus i got from the army, that i am haveing some troble getting rid of. however these are temparary distractions from my quest for the VX and will only serve to sweetin the reward of ownership. the main reason i was attracted to this fine astablishment of a site was to hopefully gain crucial knowledge on some of the particular aspecs of this vehicle. example;how common is the #1 cylinder problem. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I saw the vx while driving by a lot in evansville indiana, immediately turned around much to the dissappointment of my girlfriend (now my wife). Kept an eye on the vx for a couple of years, also to the dissappointment of my wife. Then I found out they stopped production. I immediately got online and found a dealer the closest being 3 hrs from my location. drove my toyota truck (95 sr5 4x4 exnt cab, all decked out!!!!) to champaigne, ill. traded in my beloved truck (while shedding many tears) and drove home with a smile on my face. my girlfriend was livid!!! very upset that I made such a large purchase without discussing it with her. ( this came up again later while bieng interviewed by our minister before getting married she is still upset!) shortly therafter my vx was dubbed the short bus by the guys on the fire dept.(i dont know if that is due to the driver or the mentally sick off road ability of the stock vx, but the name stuck..) now 4 years later 89,000 miles, 16months married, i had my first mishap. I struck a deer. My wife was happy to think i was going to get rid of the vx. then I found this web site!!!! now the short bus will live on!!!! nice and cozy in the garage cause I make the wife park in the driveway. the vx is still making her mad!!!! ha ah!!

Hello guys and gals. I've been lurking around here for the last month or so as I narrowed my search for that perfect Vehicross. Well I finally found and bought my new baby! It's a Green 2001 0905. I fell in love with the Isuzu Vehicross at an auto show way back in 1998. I was amazed at what I saw that day and took so many pictures of me and my then two year old standing near this amazing Vehicle. (they're still around in some album) I was a young new dad back when it came out and had very little money but always promised myself that I would own one of these someday. Well today is the day. :)
I live in the DC area and there were a couple for sale nearby that piqued my interest (especially the silverone in Frederick) but the one I settled on was located at a dealership in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. I planned on flying up there today (sat 11th) but found out DC was in for a snow storm so I hopped on a plane a day early to beat the snow. :p One hour flight there and 5 hour drive back home and today got to spend a full day driving around town and a good part of the evening being AMAZED at how great this thing was handling the snow. So how cool is it that I actually get to REALLY play around in one of the key conditions this thing was built for on my first day out. :) :) :)

OK.....so I saw my first one in Columbus, OH in '99....proton yellow...absolutely loved it!!!! I wasn't sure what it was I just saw ISUZU written on it...so I didn't know what to look for, plus I had just bought a new eagle talon...which I also loved so I didn't look any more. Then I saw another one back in Oct. '05 and went and looked at it drove 3 hours to see it. Test drove it just to find out the guy never had an oil change and it didn't have any oil on the dip stick when i took it out....bad news waiting to happen....i was disappointed and had just bought and 05 Pontiac Vibe Abyss color.....love it...then i saw (at the same dealer i bought my vibe) an iron man (debadged) being traded in for a grand am....I stopped and told them I had to have it...my dealer laughed...when I didn't laugh with him he knew I was serious...he didn't know anything about them so I filled him in with all the knowledge I had from my research on the internet. I drove that bad boy home within 2 days to sit in the driveway by the new vibe....wtf am I doing with 2 car payments??? :p I figure you only live once and I've wanted one of these since I saw it in '99 and now i have one.....I love it more than my Vibe !!!!

Sup All,

I've been shopping for a VX lately and stumbled across this forum. It's always nice to see an enthusiasts forum.

Anyway, I'm in the military stationed overseas atm, but will need a vehicle when I come back to the states soon. I've been bouncing around ideas from bimmers to volvos to audis since they all offer a military purchase program. I recently stumbled across the VX on eBay and remember seeing these things a few years back. I was kinda sad to find they discontinued such a great looking and apparently cult-following vehicle. Just further proof that politics suck.

So my basic criteria for my next vehicle are: 4WD and gas mileage. My previous vehicle was a 1995 Ford Bronco, which was great and fun, but a little too large for daily driving and too damn expensive to keep a full tank. At 10mpg with a 30 gallon tank, it'd cost me on average 70 bucks to fill up. Although, from what I've read, the VX only gets 13-19 mpg, it's still better than the OJ-mobile.

If anyone wants to offer advice/words of encouragement, I'd appreciate it. The only reservation I have atm, is the engine problem that seems to occur around the 60k mark. Is that a very common problem? Is it exclusive to a certain year model? Also, what are the maintenance costs like for the VX?

Thanks for the help. VX For The Win!

Pete (HexiBase) here joining from Southern Arizona. I own a heavily-modified 2001 Isuzu VehiCross demo vehicle representing Team Toxic Bass (http://www.teamtoxicbass.com) both in SPL competition and imports shows. I come onboard in hopes of acquaintance with like-minded aficionados who are actively committed to expanding on the VehiCross “shell” and providing the stagnant portion of the community with something more than the already overabundant heap of images depicting virtually stock vehicles which you could just as easily run a simple Google image search for. I bought this new and it's got 29k miles on it because I drive it in the winter only. I installed a K&N Air cleaner and a rear view camera and monitor that hangs down from the rearview mirror (bought it from manufacturer in Grand Rapids, MI) All the usual looks that one gets with a cutting edge designed vehicle. Funny how the SUV's coming out have such similar lines. I am sick of hearing from AutoWeek and other pubs what a piece of #%$@ the VX is. I love it! I'm concerned about the brakes and the tires. Hoping to get some ideas from this site as to the right choices. Great job on the site. Keep up the good work!

So glad to find this site! I saw the VX several years ago and I hope to finally pick up a 2001 this week! I currently drive a '94 Amigo, which has been a terrific ride. I'll keep it for jamming around, but I'm definitely looking forward to the VX: certainly a great design before its time!

Picked up a silver and black 2001 VX. I love it!!! (Its power also saved me from getting squished by a semi on the turnpike!) Am looking forward to trying the modifications I've read about on the site. ;)

Hey all. Been lurking for a little more than a month while I shopped around for a VX, but haven't wanted to sign up until I was legit. Put a deposit down on one yesterday and with a little luck will drive it home by the end of the week. Rather curious how 40 days ago I didn't know these things existed, and now I've test driven 4 of them and plunked some cash down for one.

It's kind of a funny story: End of Febuary, I was considering buying a 2001 Trooper 4x4 at an Enterprise dealership nearby, and was checking Kelly Blue Book on it. During my fiddling around selecting models, I saw VehiCROSS at the bottom of the list and said to myself: "Huh. Never heard of that. What is it?" So I jump through KBB's hoops for a VX and wind up on that last page that shows a pic of one and I'm blown away by it.

I check the Edmunds site and they have a link to reviews with even better pix and interior shots and now I'm thinking "This is the car that will get hunny excited enough to buy a 4x4!" Since I've always wanted a 4x4 but was seduced by the 900 SAAB SPG early in my car buying career so never actually got that far. So I call the hunny up at work raving about this quirky little SUV (hunny ~hates~ SUV's) with factory supplied Recaro leather seats (hunny loves Recaro seats). By the time hunny gets home a few hours later, hunny has looked up the car on the net and is utterly in love with it, too.

Needless to say we found this site (hunny's user name here is Commando, formerly luz), and it has been enormously helpful in educating us about the quirks and qualities of this particularly strange and wonderful beast.

The rest is history.

Right - well I guess I haven't properly introduced myself here inasmuch as I didn't have ownership of a VX - until now!

I guess I'm a regular Isuzu nut having owned four models since 1988 including an '82 Cheverolet PUP, a '91 Isuzu Pick-up, a '96 Rodeo and now, a '00 VX. As of now, I still have the Rodeo and VX.

I'm a fairly regular member of the 4x4wire forum and ZUtah Wheeler websites (same user name) and have been to ZUZoo for the past two years (I attended ZUZoo VII and VIII and I'm planning on attending IX in May-06).

The Rodeo (Panzer) is heavily built for offroad and is not so city friendly anymore hence my desire to purchase another vehicle (of course it had to be an Isuzu - but also the best damn engineered one to date) for the city streets.

I look forward to conversing with you all on the best mods and common fixes to minor issues and hope to see you all on the trails someday.

Best,

innercore

Just purchased a used 2000 Dragon Green with 36000 miles via Ebay. I drove it from Cleveland to Chicago to Houston. Wonderful drive and a great machine. My brother owns two VX's (Black and Burgundy), and my nephew has one (Silver). I have two Troopers too! Excellent product. The only problem I have after the drive, is the passenger side window has a problem with allignment and cannot properly seat itself.

A bit of a story. While cruising along the riverside today I saw this really cool, futuristic vehicle coming towards me with Michigan plates, I'm in Canada. Didn't know what it was , after asking around they said maybe I saw a Izuzu VehiCross.

Dumbfounded I don't recall ever hearing about this vehicle, not even sure if they were available in Canada, long story short I'm hooked, some say obcessed, I say whatever.

Man this thing is ahead of its time. I described the vehicle as a Baja 1000 mixed with Star Wars, and I find out they had an Ironman Edition , so there you go.

Hope you don't mind me getting to know about the vehicle. This is exactly the kind of vehicle I need next.

Hello everyone!

I'm not yet an owner, but when the insurance check comes in from my most recent encounter, I want a Vehicross! I've seen a few on the road over the last few years, and since I need a sporty, economical SUV, I've been captured by the VX's looks, features and overall coolness.

I live and work in Big Sur, CA (!!!), and in addition to our seasonal slides and road closures I often contend with tech-support house calls to remarkably inaccessible dwellings. My dog Sophie prefers her comforts when she joins me, and I have scattered family, so a nice ride for long hauls is needful. All in all, the VX seems like a righteous ride.

Once I'm an owner, I'll gladly share photos of its new home! As a working geek, I dig the variety and enthusiasm shown in the mods, and conviviality of this community - y'all look like a lot of fun to hang with!

Yours in Science, Steve

Please consider pulling over to answer your cell phone, or simply waiting until you arrive to answer that call! I used to jump like Pavlov's dog when my cell rang, but after three (3) accidents in 12 months, none of them my fault and every one involving a cell phone, I'm changing my behavior and encouraging others to do likewise.

I am planning to get a vehicross in a few months. I have read alot regarding the history of the vehicle and decided I have to have one of these. I dont do a lot of off road so I might turn it to a an on road vehicle with spare off road tires. I currently own an MR2 spyder http://www.cardomain.com/ride/801819. Has anyone turbo charged the VX? All ive seen were supercharged ones. I'm gonna build me a beast!!! Hehe

:p Hello everyone,

I am a proud owner of a 2000 White Ironman. I have owned it for about three weeks now and have enjoyed driving it everyday. I live in Maine and I am a framing contractor by trade. One of the great things about living where I do is the fact that there are a lot of places to go off-roading and I have been taking every opportunity to so. I am happy to have found this group too. I have been reading the posts for a few of weeks now. It funny because when I was thinking about buying my VX I found this forum and starting reading the posts and viewing the gallery. I would have to say the info I found in this forum was a major influenced on me purchasing my little beauty. I will be looking for some advice on mods from all you die hard VX drivers. Cheers

Hey guys, I've been checking out this site for a while, and decided to jopin when I saw there were other people near me with Vx's. I live over in Lakeland, FL, and I've noticed a lot of you guys live not too far from here. My V is a Dragon Green, 2001 model. I know that someone not too far from me owns two, I think a white and something else, and I've seen another one right around the lake where I live, also white.
So I just wanted to say "hey" and I hope maybe I can meet some of the guys who are close to me and chat about our V's. By the way, I don't know much about cars, I'm a musician and don't deal with much more than simple maintenance on my car, so hopefully I can learn some great things from all you guys.

Hello everyone! I am new, and here is my VX (long) story (short):

Last week, my paid off black 2000 Xterra croaked on me while I was on a road trip (I won't go into detail here, it's much too painful and still fresh in my mind). Once I got home, I knew I needed a new car, as the expense to fix my Xterra out-weighed its current value.

So, for the next two days I moaped around at the thought of buying a new SUV, especially since I really don't like the new Xterra, and all the other mid-sized SUVs out there look pretty boring imo, but then I searched for some used online, and found my VX. It was just traded in, at a dealer only 4 miles away from where I live, and better yet, it was a BLACK 2001, and it only has 25,000 miles!

For years I looked at the Vehicross, and drooled over its exquisite, futuristic design and all the other cool features of this truck, only to know that I would probably never own one. But today I drove home in my new baby, and I loved every second of it!

More to come from me very soon. I look forward to being an active member of this group.

I was in Biloxi MS at the Presidents Casino about 6 years ago and saw my first VX. A yellow proton VX in the parking lot. Went over and knew that some day I had to have one. The price of $ 30,000 + made my decision to purchase a VX at that time a little difficult. I bought a 1999 Isuzu Amigo instead of the VX which I still have and love. In March 2006 I finally purchased the 2000 Dragon Green Mica VX from a private individual in the Ft. Lauderdale area of Florida. Drove all the way from Tampa Bay to buy the car on site. Original owner, 38,000 miles and excellent condition. Paid $ 14,900 and it was in such good condition, I would have paid more. I love this vehicle and cannot understand why Isuzu does not put the VX back in production. I guess it will make our VX's more of a collectors item and valuable.

Have owned my Yellow VX for just over a month and I LOVE IT! What a great vehicle! This little truck is a kick to drive and I feel like I'm going fast over hill and dale just driving it down the street (Northern Virginia). This is the closest thing to flying fast movers low level since I left the Marine Corps. Crank it up and rock and roll!

Since I've purchased I've run into one other owner (Silver '99), and I have had a note left under my wiper from someone named Ron at the Sterling Lowes (please contact via forum or e-mail: curiouswords@hotmail.com) who owns a white VX?

Is there a version of Moab anywhere "back East?" Looking for recommendations for off-road opportunities in Northern Virginia also.

Greetings, from the lurker formerly known as luz. Now that I am legit, I figured a moniker with a trifle more panache might be in order.

Although I vaguely remembered that nifty salt flats wallet-on-the-trunk commercial, I really had no idea what a VX was until about eight weeks ago. The Saab SPG was getting a bit tatty and some serious R&R was long overdue. A new vehicle was in order and I, in an uncharacteristic fit of responsible thinking, began looking for a used Dodge Magnum, depreciation suitably absorbed by the original owner. Leather, sensible six, reasonable audio, or in other words, a practical car with just a pinch of sportiness to keep things interesting. So it's a done deal, or was at least until the better half, muzzle slathered in foam, starts raving nonsensically about this sport ute that is “totally us”.
As a motorcyclist, cell phones, soccer moms and SUVs are at the top of my list of things-that-should-be-banned-in-perpetuity. 4WD was pretty much a non-starter too, especially considering that I can barely tolerate FWD and then only because the eternally snow bound Swedes seem to insist. So, you can imagine my surprise when I am completely blown away by this pugnacious, four-wheeled football with fangs.
Evidently, the spousal unit took my glazed stare as the green light and in no time had dragged home a sound, if cosmetically challenged VX and proceeded to become best friends with Merlin of Missouri and Cosmo the local body shop guy. I warmed rapidly to the project, but creative conflicts arose. Territorial disputes loomed menacingly.

Employing a masterful diversionary tactic, the Weasel scampered east, a stone’s throw past the Emerald City and returned five days later with a far better than passable Proton, effectively ending any designs I might have had on the ex-Ebony, now Copper Bullet. Also included in the deal were Tornado Chaser and Flying Monkey Airlines tee shirts. Certainly a nice gesture, not to mention an authentic bit of Kansas kitsch. This is one slick sweetie.
So, I am yet again tilting at a few windmills and diving headlong, practicality be damned, into another lost cause. But on the other hand, if this website is any indication, I’ll have more than a few friends in the orphanage!

John
99 Ironman White 1364
61K miles
purchased 5/10/06 from CarMax Dallas
$11,998
Came with new Goodyear Eagle LS tires; I added a pair of convex blind spot mirrors, otherwise it is bone stock.

I'm sitting in the CarMax dealership right now, waiting for the service dept. to align the front end (pulled right, my regular frame and alignment shop told me excessive toe out, otherwise frame and suspension in very good condition), fix the binding passenger window, and repair/replace the rear factory speakers which are emitting split cone sounds. All will be covered under the CarMax 30-day guarantee, I trust. I adjusted the hood bumpstops yesterday to silence a squeaking hood latch. Washed and waxed with a Rain-X treatment, done at CarWash USA - it cleaned up nicely. It is a fun stress-free ride around town, coming from an '02 Dodge Quad Cab 1/2-ton lifted 6" on 35" tires. It should be a blast off-road with just a few mods. I'm looking at more agressive tires, with new wheels an option for the short term, with a Calmini lift and sway bars, rear locker, ring and pinion swap, free flowing intake and exhaust, an ARB rear locker, and maybe a blower in the future. The "IRONMAN" hood lettering and body stickers have got to go (the subtle embossing on the Recaros can stay), because I'm already getting ribbed about it at work. I'm halfway thinking about replacing it with "BALDMAN", or "LEADASS", or something more accurately descriptive of me that would fit in the space.

Occupation: Registered nurse
Hobbies: Off-roading, adventure touring on my Ducati Multistrada, amateur radio operator (current technician class license holder), and recreational shooting.

I first heard of the vx in 1997 (i was in middle school & my dad is a car buff) in a magazine that my dad showed me saying that this would be my favorite vehicle. and sure enough it is! in '98 it was voted the sexiest SUV! Now that's hot! soon after that i became infatuated and seven years later when i really wanted a car i would love forever...i bought one! so now two years after i bought it, i still feel like i just bought it. i don't even see myself as an owner because when i see one on the street driving I will scream "oh my god its a VX!!!" then my friend or family will look at me and say..."your driving in one..." I love my vx to death...a little obsessive...but i have come to realize that most vx owners are obsessed with them and super friendly too!!!

Bought a GORGEOUS VehiCross (Ironman edition) - and paid for a bumper-to-bumper Isuzua Protection Plan Warranty - at least, that was what the sales rep took my $$ for. When I went to honor the warrant they told me that, lo and behold, the paperwork that THEIR rep completed was only for substandard coverage. Because of this "oversight" I've not been able to service this beautiful machine as needed - check engine light on - now check tranny light on - airbag light almost always on - neither window working - idles horribly (vaccuum lines were serviced recently and it drove PERFECTLY when I picked it up - but 2 days later the tranny light came on for the first time and stayed on ever since and it drives really crappy.

I do NOT plan on giving up on either getting this vehicle handled correctly - and I do NOT plan giving up on making myself at least a legal nuisance for the ripoff dealership. Eventually, the pros WILL outweigh the cons. This is an excellent vehicle and I love it - can't wait to get things straightened out. I have no doubt this site will really help me get it all together. ;)

Hi All,

I was in a VX forum a while back, and now I am in this one. I have owned a 2001 since 9/2002. Bought it with 200 miles; currently have just under 18,000 miles on her. I've had the "usual" problems in the past - wheels (finally replaced, last summer, thanks to forum members postings), headlight gaskets, hood insert, cat converters (twice), windows... but

I still love my car! How much?

I love it so much, that, even after being downsized, twice, the first time from a job of 12 years, and then after 8 months (I live in Michigan, and work/ed in the transportation industry...) I have somehow managed to keep my vehicle out of the repo guys' hands, not an easy task! Now. I have a bigger problem...

In Feb 2004, I was out of work and storing the VX in my attached, insured garage. GMAC tried to tell me I needed authorization to store the vehicle, and they wanted to add $1418 to my principle for insurance. I sent them proof of coverage but they still charged me, and raised my payments. I tried for a year to get them to reverse the charge and adjust my account for missaplied interest/principle payments. I faxed proof of insurance for every policy to date - to no avail.

Finally, after a year, I informed them that I was going to withhold payment until they addressed the issue, as they now owe me over $2,000, and continue to overcharge me.

Well, rather than investigate and correct my account, and without further communication, they called my note. Two days before my birthday, I get a summons for a hearing. Now what do I do? My husband refused to refinance our mortgage - advising me to let them take it! No way! I have fought to keep it and as first owner, with only 18,000 miles, I'm not giving in now! I am on unemployment and employed p/t until I find another job. I need to have reliable transportation - right? GMAC claims I owe them X amount, but they have yet to correct the fraudulent charges. My only option, at this point, sucks!

I have only minor debts (besides the car) and the only way I could halt the legal proceedings, and keep my VX was to file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. I am morally obligated to pay my debts, and tried to get GMAC to refi my loan, but they would rather waste time and money in litigation than work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.

So, now, they have to accept the reorganization plan, if the court approves it, and they will have to investigate the erroneous charges. They will also have to accept the "value" of the VX at a way lower interest rate. The proposed plan will pay off the VX and my other minor debt, in full, over 5 years - for much less than my current car payment! I also have an extended warranty.

The day before my hearing, my petition was filed, and GMAC's attorney was notified; there is now an automatic stay against their claim. Disregarding the stay provisions, and in violation of US Code, GMAC's attorney faxed me a rescheduled hearing notice, just hours after they were notified, and then had the nerve to mail me a new summons, trying to intimidate me. Either the attorneys are ignorant, or they think I am... Bring it on!

In closing, I love my VX so much, I have had to resort to drastic measures to try and keep it. I'm sure GMAC will make this difficult, but I am ready for them. For those considering the purchase of a VX, regardless of its flaws, this should show you the lengths one will go to, to keep one! My previous vehicles were a 94 Bronco, and a 94 Vette. I much prefer my VX. It has been reliable and it is COOL!

So... If for some reason this doesn't work out, I may have a "like new" VX to sell - if anyone's interested!

Gang-
Have 2000 VX, Proton Yellow. First question: Does anyone know how many Yellow VX's came to the US? I got mine under unusual circumstances, was told it was not a typically imported color.
Second, who has a proven bolt-on supercharger kit, or supercharger/intercooler kit? The car is going overseas and I want a failsafe system. Who are the best shops in the US or England for developing the VX's?

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris Fisher

Hi everyone, In 1999 i bought a 1998 Amigo, i had a trooperII previously and just loved ISUZU's. Well, when i picked up the Amigo, the Dealer had just gotten his first VX-I went nuts for it, but i'd already signed the papers for the Amigo. So after waiting for many years to get a VX, i decided about 2 months ago to "just do it"-there was a 99 in Chicago i thing about a month ago with 10300 miles that sold for i think it was like $10800 and i missed it by about an hour........then there is the 2001 Dragon in Alaska with only 17000 miles but i couldnt get together with the dealer(freight alone was around 2g's) so i eventually found the one i got at a Dealership not far from Indianapolis-they were really great, very happy with it(but have a dashlight/tail light issue i posted in troubleshooting)
One of these days, ill post a story of the trip out and back to pick it up.

Greetings
I am blessed to have found my 2000 vx in the wonderful state of Arkansas. I had it shipped to it's new PA home where I have fixed some front end damage and added some wheels, stereo, etc. I have loved the vx' from day one and now am thrilled to own one. I look forward to continuing to modify, supercharge and enjoy the ride. I am a General Contractor with a wonderful wife and 2 great kids. I hope to see many of you some day and swap vx stories.

I new I needed the vehicross the day I saw the concept vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show. The local Isuzu dealer new nothing about it so in my travels I stopped off at the Isuzu dealer in Grand Rapids, they new nothing either but where more than happy to put me first on their list if the vehicle was ever brought ti the US. Almost a year later I found info that it was indeed going to be produced, I drove up to the dealer and wrote a check as a down payment. Over the course of the next 9 months I was updated as to its process. On tax day 1999 I went to the dealership and found my vehicross center stage on the turntable with the spot lights glowing. I must say the turrmoil over the first two years almost broke me of the desire to keep the vehicle. At 36,005 miles the engine done blowed up, the dealership (the local dealer, not the selling dealer) accused me of not getting the oil changed on a regular basis even though the reciepts from them were in the glove box, four weeks later I received my vehicle back after paying $107 for environment fees. One week later the flywheel snapped and was fixed at no cost due to issues related to the engine replacement. Overall love my truck, drive it year round and am about to roll 100,000 in the next month. Same isssues as most, windows slip, headlights haze, cd play jams, you know the story. thanks for all the great info - Mike.

Hey I made it! Good work guys looking good!

I have had my VX for about 2 years now and I love it more now than when I got it! These forms have been great and so useful in gathering information and meeting and talking with such a cool group of dedicated owners.

I look forward to more good times with your and my VehiCROSS!

Peace,
Dave

I'm currently stationed in Japan and I'm not a VXer yet but can be as early as next week when I go home on leave. I love the VX from first sighting (June 06). I had never seen one before until I was in Hawaii. Anyway I've been on the look out for an Amigo to fix up and now I have changed my mind, but after reading some of the threads on blown engines I'm having second thoughts.

I saw the vx back in 1999 driving down the highway in Louisiana. I could NOT take my eyes off of it. That was the day I new I had to have one and a passion for the vx started. For the life of me though, a few months later I couldn't remember what it was called! I researched, and researched for hours until it popped up again. Years went by and I fell more and more in love with this vehicle everytime I saw it. You could say it was the truck of my dreams. After trying extremely hard to purchase one on many occasions something would always cause me to turn it down and try again later. Finally after 6 years, I bought my dream a few days ago and I can't help but turn around in a parking lot with a huge grin on my face to look back at it. The vx is not just a car, its a passion, and Im so happy that all of you share this feeling with me.

Is anyone here from the UK?
Any pointers to threads on buying and checking would be much appreciated!

I am the newest member of the community and so dern proud to be here. Hailing from Tulsa OK and loving the offroad.

I do not own a VX as of yet, but ever since I have had a license I have been in love with them. Now, I am frantically in search of a nice proton to raise. It all started with my first baby:

99 Ranger, cherry red, ext cab, step side, nerf bars, brush guard, bedliner, hood scoops, 3" body lift (couldnt afford susp. lift), and 31" Coopers S/Ts.

Then I upped it to my still reigning favorite (until i get the VX that is): 01 Chevy 2500 HD crew cab with the allmighty duramax. Had a 6" susp running 36" Hummer Wrangler Tires, bedliner (decided to spice it up and spray the liner on the rocker panels...it was sexy), brush guard with 4 6" piaas, K/N cold air intake, magnaflow exhaust, hypertech programmer pushin it from the stock 300 hp to over 400. Ran it at the speedway and clocked a 1/4 in less than 17 secs. You know how it goes, some 70 yr old lapses into a coma during rush horu traffic, goes out with his foot on the gas, manages to weave through traffic and hit me head on going 60+....freaking civic twisted my HD frame :-/

Moved on to an Excursion...still had to mod it though. Same power mods as it was a diesel. It would scoot for a bus. But needed something smaller

In an 05 Colorado Z71 LS Crew cab now with a vew body mods...nothing too impressive. Figured why mod it when I am holding out for a Proton of my own.

So, that is my story...the stuff that matters at least (my vehicle lineage). Like I said, I am in crazy search of a nice Proton preferably with < 40k miles. And yes, I did email SDMtnBiker about his spicy VX.

HOWDY YA'LL! (i just know you all were figuring the okie had to say it sooner or later)

;)

tbigity,
Welcome, & good luck in your search.
Sounds like you may be a bit disappointed in whats available aftermarket for the VX, (no chips, body kits, etc.) but it's still one of the most extraordinary rides available IMO.
I've got kinfolk in Bixby (aunt & uncle), so who knows, you may see me round yer neck of the woods some day.

I have just purchased a 99 Ebony.

I bought one in 99 and had to sell it soon after buying it.
So many years later I fianally bought another one.

Now I have to type in a low voice so my wife doesn't hear this "hopefully I'll soon be able to start modifying it" " like wheels and tires, dual exhaust, custom taillights, custom headlights, light bar,... stuff like that."

To Ldub: NOFREAKINGWAY?!! In a town of only 8,000 people, in a country of nearly half a billion...that is nuts, what are the odds. That would be neat. You will be able to spot me...AS I WILL BE DRIVING A 2001 PROTON! That is right, I am getting one :-D Seriously, I just messed myself. And it is already modded, for the most part. Just missing a calminia and some Nittos. I will let you know. Ok, it is not final yet, as it is currently about 1,600 miles away, but twill happen...oh yes...twill.

I caught a look at the VX while at a car show earlier this summer. I thought they were so rare that I would never be able to get one. After a little checking around I found that there was one for sale in town and it was a reasonable price. I made it down there the next day to find that it was sold. :(
Since then I've been researching these and I'm at the point where I think I'm sold on these.
The only thing left to do is see one up close. You know, actually sit in it, see how it sounds, rides, ... After that it's deciding what color I want!

Anyway, I hope that through this forum I may find someone in my area that would be kind enough to introduce me to their Pride and Joy!?!

I'm an Instrument Tech by trade, mechanically minded, and do some programming (when I find the time - which has been fairly sparce lately).

So, Anybody out there?

Welcome. This is the right place. There are several for sale here. I found one in good condition on ebay the other day with a B-I-N of under 10k. Seems good. And as for wanting to get in it and fell it out etc. let me say this, if you are anything as in love with the VX as I, that is not necessary. As transio (the guy I just got mine from) can attest to, I flew all the way from tulsa to miami, he picked me up at the airport, showed me the car...that was all it took. I, with an enormous smile, said "well...let's do it!" His reply was "don't you at least want to drive it first?"

Dude, seruously, they are so amazing, I didnt care how it handled or felt in my hands, i just wanted it. They sould bottle the VX and sell it as a drug. They are great!

Thanks for the welcome,

I've seen a few VX's and got my eyes open. With Cash a bit tight right now, I just wanna be sure. Don't get me wrong, I've already have a couple thoughts bouncing around in my head telling me "Just buy one!!!!!!!!!". So far I've been able to resist. 8^)

So, I guess I better figure out how to write a note to everyone asking who's in my area?

Hello to everyone, I just purchased a 1999 silver/black VX on July 26th, 2006. What an amazing vehicle. I feel like Im part of an elite crowd, which you all seem to be great people. I live in N.E. Ohio (about 40 miles east of Cleveland) My VX has only 56k miles on it. It was originally from Virginia, went to PA for a bit, and is now in Ohio. I plan to keep it here for a long time. So.... Id like to introduce myself to the VX family, and hope this will be a long ride.

Owning Proton 2000 (model year 2001) from March. Like it too much. Some photos available in the gallery.

According to Carfax, it spent 3 years in Maryland, then 1 year in Ohio, then went to Florida and finally sold in Pennsylvania. Now it is in Zelenograd, Moscow, Russia.

Had to repair left front hub (around $30) right after purchasing.

Hey all,

I have always loved these trucks and am strongly considering buying one in the next week. I recently totaled my car and have a nice insrance check. Thanks Farmers! I've been browsing the site obsessively and it's qite helpful. I have decided on white and have located one with 51k miles on it. (1999)The "bottom dollar" from a dealer is $13,995. The truck is perfect and the owner even noted every fuel stop! This appeared to be a meticulous owner. So....I'm asking for advice. Is this a fair deal? I don't want to lose a bunch of money in depreciation right off the bat and I do put a lot of miles on my vehicles. I also saw some mentions of a bearing problem at 60k miles and this one's not there yet. I've seen them for as low as $6,500 but with higher miles. Any feedback would be appreciated! I hope to be an active member soon.

Thanks!

Greetings VXer's!!!

My call sign is dc700 and I'm emailing you from Okinawa Japan!!! I just recently purchased a 01 silver while I was home on leave. I picked it up in chicago and drove to NY and then finally stored it in Stafford Va.
My story is like most, Love at first site!! I had never really been into cars most of my money is spent on shoes for the wife and my drums!! LOL!! Up to May of 2006 I wanted a 94 Amigo and then I went to a conference in Hawaii and parked next to a Burgundy VX and I couldn't keep my eyes off of it! Again not being into cars and the fact that VX was debadged I had no idea what I was looking at. So I researched and found this site that answered all of my questions about the VX. Two months later I bought my VX!!!! The drive cross country was awesome the car handled like a sports car!!!
I return to the states in 2008 and hope to enjoy her some more!!!

To all that support this site THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

PS: While I was driving in Stafford Va I spotted PROTON Yellow VX off of Rt 610.
Take care DC700 / Vin# 1019

Hello,
I have wanted to have a VX ever since I first saw one in 1999 and yesterday I bought a 2001 silver VX with 55,000 miles drove it home from Indy and fell in love with it even more. Paid 10600 for it and feel like I made the best deal of my life.
Question. Does anyone have a towing package installed on theirs and what do you suggest, I have a small trailer I pull my four wheeler on when I drive the Rodeo and would like to be able to use the VX also to take the Four wheeler if I need too.
I would also like to install the cam in rear of the VX and wondered if any one has done that and if the recommend it.
Thanks
Ralph

I bought my 2001 proton yellow VX at the end of July. I owned a 98 mustang before that and it finally died on me, so i was shopping for a new vehicle when i saw a vx in the classifieds. It had about 58000 miles and was in pristine condition. I immediately fell in love. Last night was my first chance to really take it off road and Oh My God it's awsome!!!!
I'm from a little town called Goliad TX, it's as about as redneck as can be but it's home to me. :)

I have loved these vehicles since I first saw one @ the SF Auto show way back when. As a freshman in college now, I find myself driving a tired 1983 Toyota Camry hatchback around town  , wishing I had a VX instead. Within the next year I plan on getting a job so I can save some money. Hopefully, in about a year i will be ready to buy a car, and I hope I can find a VX near me in my price range!

My name is Ben and I've been driving my '99 VehiCross for over seven years now. Back when I was looking into getting my first car in 1999, I was browsing car models on Carpoint. I ran some searches for features I wanted in a car, and the VehiCross was one of the few results. (I also thought it was also one of the only cars that really looked good in the online photos -- the rest appeared too boxy.) After doing some research, I went to a local dealership in August of '99 to test drive one, and wound up driving home in the show floor model. I am really glad that I decided on this car. It's fun to see other VehiCrosses on the road (though it's a rare occurence), and I love driving it around. I've taken it off-road a few times, but sadly those capabilities have gone largely neglected (though I do a bit of urban off-roading, such as when other cars don't quite leave enough room for that right turn, et c. ;Dy; ).

Hi gang, happy to finally be one of you!
Back in '02, a coworker and I are raving avout this SUV we saw , but could not think of the name. We did a search and there it was, the coolest SUV I had ever seen and I wanted one. My co-worker, being a single guy gets back on the internet and he buys one while I standing there, the S..B! Well to make this sstory short, 4 years later he is ready for something else so I scored the '01 Ebony #935 22K miles from himfor REALLY not much! Needless to say I am a happy guy.

Just happened upon this site and liked it so much I thought I would join in. I found my 86 Trooper at a car lotin Virginia Beach and imediately fell in deep like with it. I have taken it places that some of the other 4X4's couldnt make it through. Even tho they had several mods to them.
I am married and have 2 kids, because I don't want 3. I am also career military and can retire in a couple of years and go back to Texas. Here are a couple of pics of the "Blue Mule".

09/11/2006, 11:26 AM
Hi everyone;

I'm Mario, live in the San Francisco Bay Area and about a week ago I bought an '01 in Green with about 63K miles on it. (Super clean car!) Flew to San Diego last weekend to buy it from a dealer and drove it back home.
(Seats are not great for long trips but not too bad).
I decided to call it "Green Mamba" because of the fangs and the green paint.

Pictures:

http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n262/mariog4/

The driver's side window was not working at all. Yesterday, I pulled the door panel and discovered that the plug to the motor had been disconnected. Also noticed that someone had already reinforced the mounting post of the window regulator. The problem was that a plastic guide clip was broken, therefore, the regulator would not stay properly on the track as it was going up and down. I had to improvise and "engineer" a solution. Somehow, I was able to adapt a piece of plastic and make it stay on the guide track. Now I have a perfectly working power window!

I'm also a little afraid on other shortcomings of these vehicles, (from what I read on this forum). I immediately changed the oil to Mobil 1 synthetic so I hope that will buy me some piece of mind.

Anyway, sorry for the long introduction, and maybe I'll run into one of you, (not literally), one of these days.

Thanks!

My name is Paul and I live in NY metro area...always liked an unique vehicle, and Vx is surely that, and less impractical than some of my previous ones. Have been talking to Rick in Houston about his "super" VX, but almost certain it is sold.

...Looking at VX in Evansville/mt vernon (area) Indiana...LukeVx's 2001 black i was wondering if anyone "knows" this Vx...or was close enough, or is willing and able to do inspection for me? Already agreed on price, based on pictures and numerous emails, and only waiting to make sure Houston VX is REALLY sold. Otherwise will fly to indiana, ASAP and drive the 800 miles back. A bit worried about getting stuck on road (low miles, on 2001 VX , but you never know)....but I would rather chance that, unless I could feel "comfortable" with truck transport. Driving back seems my best option. Had a friend who used to drive car carriers....even though most get where they need to go in one piece, have heard a few horror stories. I have already "met" a few few folks on this site and have been gratified and impressed with their warmth, and willingness to help. Will entertain possibility of truck transport, if someone has personal recommendation? Hope to "officially" become A VXer very soon.

Hi........ Just purchased a 99 White Ironman VX w/ 99,750 mi. Purchase price was 6600.00. Need to find a way to bring back the lower cladding color/ finish to its original luster, any suggestions ?? Want to do some maint. that may be needed, like timing belts, trans. service, plug replacement or any other items that may arise. My wife and I have always wanted a V-Cross but just never found one that was available in our area or at a reasonable price. the condition of our VX is good, straight body, seemingly mechanically sound, interior perfect, it mainly looks as though it was parked outside for most of its life due to the fading of the body cladding. We look forward to enjoying the VX experience and browsing this site for ideas and experiences. Mike

Hi introduced myself below, but now "official"!

Just drove in this morning, with 2000 Kaiser 0280 from suburb west of Chicago. Flew out on a $100 dollar flight from Laguardia (NY) at 8 am Tuesday and made it back by 4:30 am Wednesday.

Never drove that far solo before...but it is was relatively painless in 0280. Pleasantly surprised at lack of soreness..Usualy have to move seat back past factory (6'5"/300 lbs), but was quite comfortable, luckily previous owner only listened to radio aqnd did not "use up" what seems to be a short lived cd player.... which I enjoyed on trip home

orig owner, all records always serviced by Isuzu...seemingly meticulous owner, mobil 1 only, 3 binders of shop manuals, manual on cd., all orig paperwork/service.. & other vx stuff was included

A bit bummed though, "impeccable" service record was spotty on 30K..no transmission flush. seems EVERYthing was done but that!
Now at 41.5k and will flush tommorow, keeping fingers crossed it does not look too bad?

Not sure if my imagination, but seems to be very slight vibration when you put it in gear...did not notice that in Illinois. Not something real noticeable, but wondering if 0280 is trying to tell me something?

Still original tires with maybe 10k left... feels pretty solid till 80 mph ...then slight vibration (I-80 on way home gave many 80+mph moments)...decided on geolander 285/60/18 on stock 18" wheels and (wheel alignment was suggested by illinois dealer ,when tires needed replacing)

One thing when turning and approaching lock, weird, change in smoothness of turning... in last 10% before lock? don't know if that is normal?

Never thought I would do, what I just did, but glad I did it !

Hello from Raleigh, NC, home of the 2006 NHL Stanley Cup Champions – Carolina Hurricanes. My work schedule (frequent travel away from home) allowed me to attend all of the home games during the Stanley Cup Play-off Series in May and June 2006. Driving home from one of the games put me in a traffic situation whereupon I spotted my first Vehicross (white). Thus began my quest for my very own Vehicross.

Upon arrival at home, I did an immediate search on Google to determine just what kind of vehicle I had seen. Thanks to this website forum and the Vehicross Tribute Page, I determined that this was a great vehicle suitable to replace my aging 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis Edition. A quick trip to eBay determined that there was a ready supply of used vehicles available. The more difficult job turned out to be – finding one locally available for sale such that I could actually get to spend some time with. BTW, there is no Isuzu dealer here in Raleigh; nearest one is 25 miles away in Durham.

After a few weeks, a black 99 with 70+K miles was located through the local CraigsList web page. So, I finally got to drive one and was mildly impressed. I did not buy it, mostly due to the exterior and interior colors (even though the red/black colors matched the Hurricanes’ team colors) and the aftermarket wheels/tires that were installed. Thus, my quest continued.

While continuing my search for a local buy, I saw several good ones show up on eBay but then disappear before the auction ended. I spotted 1 more (silver) here in the Raleigh area during my daily work commute of 65 miles, but alas no ‘for sale” sign. I spotted a white one on the road in the Huntsville, AL area during a business trip, again, no ‘for sale’ sign displayed. Another trip took me to Charleston, SC where 2 had been listed on cars.com or autoextra.com. By the time I arrived, one was already sold. I did get to see and drive the other one, a 2000 green with 96K miles. There was something about it that just did not feel right, plus the price was high considering the “wear & tear”. In searching on Autoextra.com, I noted an interesting anomaly, in that there was a search option for “V Cross”.

So, I took this anomaly information and started my searching again. On my local Craigslist I found a 2001 Proton Yellow in nearby Greensboro, NC with 70K miles in excellent condition. This one already had a dealer installed tow package and the price was a lot closer to what I was prepared to pay. It took about a month of trading e-mail notes and finding a time when it was convenient for both of us before I was able to see and drive the Proton. This one was truly in great condition with only a few cuts in center arm rest cushion, headlight lense crazing, and the “dreaded” driver/passenger window problem. It is now sitting in my garage. I am starting some of the mods (lights, performance, debadging, rear door) from this site while awaiting the arrival of the title.

My wife says I now have a “yellow” fixation. I don’t understand…I have only bought a yellow canvas L. L. Bean bag (garage sale price - $1), yellow wash bucket, yellow can koozie (gotta keep those drinks cold in such a ‘hot’ vehicle!), yellow flashlight, yellow bath sheet/towel (on sale at Macy’s for only $9.99), yellow paper note pads, and yellow battery jump-pack. My biggest dilemma is how to find Mobil 1 in yellow containers; may have to default to Pennzoil. Anyone make yellow oil filters?

Good day to everyone . Well i'm still looking for a VCurrently I live in loUiSiAna. I'm holding out until January maybe February to get on a serious purchasing path . So I plan to be a PROUD VX owner Starting sometime in 2007.

Well it goes like this I was out wasting the day away with some friends ,We decided to go to local dealerships and browse through their inventory X . the last stop was a dodge/Isuzu dealer . Yep! in the showroom out of the elements a shiny new Iron Man . First time I had ever seen the mini beast . WOW! no car ever impacted me like that I was speechless . When I was finally able to pry my attention away from it . I asked many questions about this VX, sat in ,liked the feel and the view ,also appreciated the lack of millions of tiny Little buttons on the control panel (dashboard). It was as though it was designed for driving no distractions other than its cool body style. BUT at 30grand not for me.

Now they seem to be more in my price range and hopefully soon ill have one in my possession.

Test drove one recently was very close to purchasing it then poof it was gone,And then today10/19/06. I look on ebay and their it is in TX . Hmmmm. Although at this point
I decided I don't want that one its missing the rear spoiler which the price quote that was given to me seemed a bit much $521.00 not installed just the spoiler. Also I fear that it may have some internal corrosion due to the exposed mounting holes on the VX's roof.

OK thats it for now .

Just getting started on my search for a VX. I accidentally stumbled across one looking at Isuzu's on ebay. Floored, completely, utterly floored. How could I live for 7 years without ever seeing one of these? Granted, I've always lived in small towns in Kentucky where having something that looks like a spaceship shuttlepod with AWD could be more of a nuisance than a blessing, but I'm willing to live on the edge a little and try my luck.

I'm still getting used to the idea that if I'm going to own one, I'll most likely be buying it from digital photos and sight unseen, and it almost turns my stomach to have to do it this way. I wanted to be a part of this community prior to purchase for moral support and encouragement : )

Just purchased a Silver 99 with 109.000 miles from Fredrick Maryland. I traded in my 1995.5 Rodeo LS. The VX will be my daily driver. I purchased a 2005 GTO in may of 2005 and have 33,000 miles on it, so I needed a daily driver that I would enjoy driving and this is it. I live in near Lynchburg Va. Great site guys.

I just bought my share of my first car at 16, a 99 black VX. MY mom and dad matched wat I put into the car, i through 2-3k into it. My dad had one and i loved it and decided that i would liek one in the distant future. Long story short i ended up finding one in SC for 5900 and went for it. The only thing that i have discovered so far is that if u put a sealed jl box in the back it fits exactly with the the seat angle making a nice finished look. 6 inch speakers fit in the front and 4 inchs in the back. I have Jl audio speakers all the way around and two 12inch jl subs in a sealed enclouse with a precision power 300.4 amp and a alpine cda-9856 headunit and it sounds amazing. i would recomend puttin a system in the VX cause its road noise is actually relativly small considering its truck like suspension and its knobby-ish tires. But the hatchback style of the VX allows reverberation off the tirewell and creates a much louder sound than found in a truck or car.

well i am new to the forum and hi guys. i own a 99 vehicross and yes it is a badass of a vehicle. there is something thrilling about driving it for sure. the rough idling of the car really sucks but besides this the thing is def a hybrid (part sport car part suv) there is no doubt that the car was designed for rallies. this car is amazing.

At this time, I've owned my 2001 Proton one week and one day. Still getting used to this vehicle and trying to pin down a few details. Saw my first VX in 2001, an Ironman and probably the last one sold in my area. Have only seen a total of three around here (Allentown, PA area), ever. Now there are four. Finally decided to get a newer car than what I was driving, and still had these cool little trucks in the back of my mind. A few days later, after some internet shopping, I found this one outside of Pittsburgh, and started making the arrangements. Never drove one, never sat in one, never even talked to someone who owned one. Love it so far, attracts many stares and questions. Figured if I was going to own a sport utility, it had to be one you don't see many of, and this fits perfectly. I expect to have some questions, as I do as much of my own work as possible, and this looks like a very good forum to learn an benefit from others experiences. All I have to do is get familiar with this whole concept ( am most certainly not a computer person). But, hey, a milestone, I purchased the service manual on CD from Helm, first eletronic manual in my library. Hope to get to the learning soon, so hello to all..

I saw my first VX at a grocery store in Honolulu 1999. Dk grey and all luscious. It seemed to me to be grown, not built- and I told myself that i had to have one. 6 mo later and back home in Phoenix, I saw a Proton yellow in front of the local Isuzu dealership and stopped by to take a closer look. Long story short, by the time i was in a position to purchase my very own, (NOV 2001) I was informed that there were no Lt silver VXs in Arizona. Or the western US. or North America. Only one proton in AZ was unsold and I was not ready for that. 2 weeks after my dream was shattered, the salesman called and said he had something i wanted- maybe. I saw the Ironman edition when I arrived and when the dust cleared, drove it home the next day. (destickered at the dealership.) Turns out the wife of the owner of the dealership had driven it for 9 months and it was time for her to have a new car. Ive had good times, great times and not so great times since i was ruined way back then, but I still have a VX in my garage. 60k on it, and even though I'm not new to Vehicross.info, I was only a "lurker" until now. This site has saved my butt more than once, and it deserves all of my respect. (and my sponsership.) From the West side of Phoenix, Booya.

I LOVE this car...ummm...truck!

I have a white 2001 Ironman that my other half has taken over so I guess I am in the market for a new one. Perhaps a yellow one...or maybe a black one this time. Right now I am stuck in my little MR2 (which is fun as well) and on my motorcycle...but it's not a VX!

Anyway...I'm a Cali-girl living in Tx and am tickled to have found this site. Nice to know there are others out there that love this car like I do!

I sure wish I could have got one 7 years ago....

Well hello VX-ers! I'm new here, obviously, but wanted to introduce myself. I do not currently own a VX but am looking into getting one in the next year probably. Preferably a 00-01 Ebony, because I don't care for the red interiors and I would like the automatic climate control feature.

I currently drive a 94 Toyota MR2. I love that car, but started looking at VXs once I moved from Dallas to Boston and the inevitable need for a more winter appropriate vehicle became apparent. I like the VX because of it's unique styling as well as it's size and the cladding (those last two being very important for parking in the middle of Boston where I live.

Well, I do enjoy this site even as a lurker, and hope to join you all as an official owner in the next year.

Well,
I never saw a VX with my own eyes until 2006 Christmas in Cabo, Mexico. I knew about them and the basics of the model but it wasn't until then that I thought of checking on it because I just sold my M5. Came back to San Diego and did a search for VehiCROSS, first hit was autotrader page of one for sale downtown. Took a test drive the same day, owned it two days later.
The transaction itself was a nightmare because the seller/first owner resides outside of the coutry and was not very honest about some things, but I love the vehicle. Upgraded intake and exhaust make it sound great as well as take the output to over 260HP (the power and torque on this thing is a BLAST!!!!!!!! It even keeps up with buddy's 350Z Nizmo for a little while.....I love to take off from lights and leave other rice-burners and most other cars in the rumble and dust).
Onboard system includes dual-core PC, primary 7" touchscreen with multiple secondary screens ranging from 5" to 17", Sirius, XM, GPS navigation, voice recognition, 3G wireless Internet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 250GB worth of music, 400GB worth of movies and games, engine management integration and much, much more.....
The reason I got the vehicle is for it's looks, I want to use it as a show car to demo the navigation system but I can't wait to have sime time to take it off-roading.

When I saw my first Vehicross in 2005 I knew I loved the look of it - but it didn't seem very practical and was a little bit above my budget. Here in 2007 the prices have come down quite a bit and I have determined I can get rid of our dependable but BORING RAV4 and get a Vehicross for those few occasions when we need 4WD to get out of our treacherous driveway. I am looking for a 00 or 01 that I can drive on the weekends for fun and my wife can use in the snow if necessary.

May have found one at Texas Auto Direct in Houston - relatives are looking at it this week. It's a 00 Kaiser - love that color. Test drove one in Akron, Ohio - loved it but too expensive.

I'm a controls tech for Johnson Controls. I love to drive a vehicle that looks good and handles just as well. I have owned Datsun Zcars for the last 20 years - 240's , and 280's mostly. Currently have a rock solid 72 240Z from California. - loved Z's the first time I saw them - the Vehicross is one of the first vehicles I can say the same about.
Other dreamcars would be the Ford GT, Lotus Elise and I even like the Saturn Sky.
First car was a 69 Firebird. ( loved it too )

Hi there...

My name's Alan (as if you hadn't guessed from my highly unoriginal username  ) and I live just outside Glasgow in Scotland.

I'm currently looking to import a VX from Japan so I thought I'd join up and find out what I can about them.

Anyhow, the plan is that the VX will join my somewhat un-standard 2004 Toyota Yaris diesel in the driveway and the bits of Citroen 2CV taking up the garage gets moved on. Somehow.

Anyhow, doubtless I'll see you about.

My name is Harry and I am helping by trying to locate for my brother's Ironman VehiCross agood used working transmission. His dealership told hime that his vehicle had a transmission problem. He came to me for help in locating a transmission and installation. I have been learning more about Isuzu troopers do share the same tran as that of a Vcross. Any help or lead to a reasonable tranny for a 99 Vcroxss is greatly appreciated

Bought myself a VX early last year and I have enjoyed all the looks, stares, and comments I've received.

Of course, it's a gas hog, and for that reason I've only put 4K on the thing this year, but I bought it with low miles.

Trying to fix it up to bring it back to top shape, so I'll probably be asking around for suggestions and I look forward to "tapping" the wealth of knowledge and experience here.

Kind of interesting knowing I am one of only a few thousand people who actually own a VX.

My Vehicross was owned a a friend of my son. It had been around for awhile and I liked it alot. I told the owner that if he still had it in the spring I would consider buying it as I was thinking about getting a new KIA Sorento. My wife really liked it and told me to go ahead and get it now. That was the end of November or the begining of December and, as everyone knows, it started snowing about 3 weeks later. I was so glad I had bought it then. I had no problems getting around in the 20 inches of snow and it was our primary transportation for about 2 weeks. I love this thing, it is so much fun to drive and goes through anything.

Well, my dad got me my VX on valentines day 2006, I wanted something that no one else had and we searched and found this. I fell in love and we looked for a while until we found one we both liked. He went to ohio to get it and suprised me by telling me he didnt buy it, but had it shipped so when i came home one day it was in the garage and i was so excited. I love these little cars. they have nice torque to them when ya need it. I'm still in school so i drive it all over the place and people are always asking me what it is. I love the reaction i get when people see the red and black interior! i have decided to keep this car forever and just keep replacing as much as i can and keeping it in shape and updated for as long as i can. i love it!

Just purchased a 2001 VX....only driven one once...just had to have it....
I'm a VW nut both old and new so please forgive me for any questions I may ask....this is new territory for me....

That said, this VX has around 60000 miles on it and just went through a dealer 60000 mile maintenance (by the previous owner)

The only problem I have is of course the windows....hanging on roll up on the driver side, rolls up as long as you keep them in the track and with a little help....please point me to the correct forum....

and can anything be done to help with the gas mileage....add on, different plugs, etc.....

Thanks and glad the forum and site still exist.... :)

Well - it's been a while I've got mine - Astral Silver 1999, 55kmiles on dash, so it's time to register here.

Interestingly - when I decided I need VX & started looking for ways to get it to my side of the globe, suddenly one showed up for sale locally. It was there for 12KEUR. I called the guy up, asked for the condition of the car & upon claim of good condition, I said: I give you 9 grand right away, & the deal is done. So - I saw the car live, it was Ok, so it's mine now. :p

(Delivery from US would have taken ~1KUSD, + taxes another ~1KUSD, & I doubt if I could've found so much better bargain for car itself down there, so I consider having myself a decent deal.)

Name's Eric, details are in profile.

NOTE: boys get older, their toys become ... just more expensive...

Well, my story is remarkably similar to jemorga's. While driving from Leadville to Denver on Thanksgiving weekend, I was following an Ironman edition with "BAN IRS" plates. Stuck in I-70 holiday traffic eats away at my sanity already. Having "ISUZU" burned into my eyes for two hours didn't help. Something about how it looked just clicked with me.

A few months later the blizzard hit. Although the Subaru was a champ, I figured I could stand to have something with a little more clearance. I've got some land up in the mountains, but I can't get there. It is a little tough to go four wheeling in a sports car.

Finally, although I love my Subaru, it was getting a little annoying that everyone ELSE I know now has one, too!

So, I bought one. So far, it has been my albatross. Everything that commonly goes wrong with them has so far gone wrong with mine. I've replaced the CD changer, I'm looking for a new ABS unit, and I'm afraid to visit drive-up windows for fear that my window will STAY down this time.

And yet, I'm totally loving it so far. I can't wait to go playing in the mountains with it, and like someone else said, I enjoy the looks it gets. I don't think anyone knows what I make of it, though. I've gotten everything from "Aww. It's cute!" to "It looks like a shoe."

Hello everyone!

Okay, so it's 1998 and I'm looking for a new car and I come across this weird looking vehicle. I fall in love with it, but end the relationship when the sticker price turns out to be 32K. Instead I get a 98 Mustang and use that for 2 years. Well wouldn't you know it... my good old Isuzu dealership STILL has the VX I had eyed a couple of years ago. One thing led to another and what you know, I got my VX.

4 years ago though (2003), I had part with my VX because of a new financial burden. A HOUSE! In addition to that, I now have my 3 girls and my beautiful wife to tend to. To top things off, I had to move because of a new job. Thank God my brother won that stupid scratch off. If it weren't for him, I don't know what I would've done. He ends up buying my VX and that was that. Well, now it's 2007, and guess what? I get my VX back! It's got it's 86,000 miles and the way my brother drives? I know it's been through hell because I had to replace all the power steering lines, the steering gear, and have yet to replace an ABS module and clock spring.

Slowly but surely, l'll get it to where it needs to be. I'm just glad it's back with me!

Take care y'all.

I am a small business owner on the coast of Oregon. I have a 1999 vx that is my weekend warrior and 2/3 of a vx that was my tow vehicle. I say 2/3 because it was in an accident in Arizona about a year ago and the insurance co. declaresd it a total loss. They monkeyed around for almost six months before deciding that repairs would exceed value of vehicle. The vehicle was hit in the rt side, spun around and pushed into a flat bed truck. I retained salvage if for no other reason to remind me of what once was. This vehicle was my baby. I have the notion of repairing it but haven't been able to locate parts. My weekend warrior was purchased about 3 years ago with 30k miles and now has almost 67k. It is dead stock except for a missing wheel cntr cap. I plan on keeping it the same. Well I guess I have ran on long enough.

I fell in love with the VX at a concept car show in Phoenix.. Once I saw them for sale, I figured it would be best to buy used after a year or two (poverty-stricken teacher, what can I say?!) I flew to Oregon to buy from a dealer and drove it back to Phoenix. Didn't see another one on the road for 1300 miles. Love being unique! Unfortunately, must sell ASAP as I prepare to start a business. High miles, but well kept. $8500. Check out cars.com and autotrader.com, VX in AZ!

First things first, Great Site!! I've learned so much about my VX in the past few weeks, and I've only had it for four days now. Just purchased a Jap import 3.2 V6. Great vehicle, had to have one once i'd seen a picture. Never seen another one on the road in this country yet.
Been onto the site many times for info, no sites exist in the UK, found this site very helpful. Is there any other members from the UK? As I,ve already mentioned, I drive a mere 3.2 V6, but from what I can gather has the same performance figures, which are pretty impresive! Vehicles Silver/Blue, I'll post some pics shortly. What it is missing is a Reversing camera, I think you call it a Back-up Camera. This was standard spec on 99 models, unfortunately mines a 98. Anybody know where I might get one?

I recently purchased our yellow/black 00 VehiCross for my wife (of course I drive it more than she does). We've been wanting one ever since they came out. Ours has a 3 inch lift and is running 33x12.50's. It's a beautiful ride. I'm in the process of adding the step bars but have to do some serious mods to the mounting plates because the tires hit them in full turn (the only time that the phenominal turn radius hurts). I've also gotten Tune's hitch that I need to install so that we can tow our SeaDoos. I may have a permanent fix for the *&^%&*%^ windows - I'll post that in the tips section.

Glad to be part of the family.

Driving down the road in a brandy new Toyota Crew Tacoma...spotted the VX on the side of the road at a Dealer...jumped on the phone, while performing a smokin' 4 wheel lock-up...told them to get that thing off the road, I am buying it! "Do you know how much we're asking?" the voice said..."I don't care, put it away!"
At this point I didn't even know what it was. So here we are. I am getting alot of important and helpful information from you all and I appreciate this immensely! Since last October I have seen 2 other VX's here in Kingwood...both white. This is a small community of about 55k so this must be a record.
Thanks again,

Send positive vibes my way, I might need them to help me get my new ride. I put a deposit on a '99 VX yesterday. Now, between loving relatives I am coming up with the cash. Yes, the guy wants cash only, 7700 plus tax, title and license. And I am starting with zero of my own, but have the ability to pay back my mom and soon to be mom in law just fine, with payments beginning next month. The only worry is getting that cash together within two weeks between the both of them. So if all goes well, I will be a real member of the VX drivers club soon.

If it works out, mine is a 99 black, in excellent condition. I found this vehicle after looking around for a rebuilt Eddie Bauer Bronco II. I had a bronco years ago and it was my favorite ride ever, as far as vehicles go;) So I was looking in an auto trader book and noticed a vehicle I had never heard of. Curiosity drove me to look it up online. This was the first vehicle my fiance and I agreed that we liked the look of. So we found one in Dallas about 70 miles from us.

After a test drive I was pretty much hooked in spite of my worries and doubts about blind spots. Thankfully I found this forum and read all about how to overcome blind spot problems. The feel of driving it was exactly like driving my Bronco II that I missed so dearly. So I can't wait to practice and become a proficient VX driver despite visibility issues. Wish me luck on getting the truck.

Jade

Well, not really. We sold it 5 yrs ago when we moved to Ft. Myers Florida. Now we want it back! Instead of buyers remorse we have sellers remorse! :( We thought we should grow up & be practical and buy a "family" car. What a mistake. Well, live and learn. maybe someday we will buy another.

Aloha from the islands!

My name is Dino and I live on the island of Maui.
I'm a metal designer/fabricator/welder and a long time mechanic and jack of trades. I've worked in garages on everything from tow trucks to vintage Porsches. I even did a year on a Formula Mazda circut. I was the setup guy, dialing in suspension geometries and spring/shock rates. I was also the tuner and dealt with the jetting of the Mikuni DCOE carbs. Yep. I know carbs real well. Love them in fact. I have a set of 4 Mikunis from a GSXR 1100cc drag bike mounted up on my Mazda Miata. I woke the little dragon with that mod! Anyway, I like to tinker and invent and I actually enjoy working on my cars.

I saw my first VX one week ago today and it made me turn my head and go... hmmm. It was in Kahului in a Safeway parking lot. It was an Ebony Black one.

The next morning, while running errands in my Scion xB, I saw it AGAIN!! It was at the gas station and it pulled up as I was filling up. WOW!

I said "dude how do you like your new VehiCross?"
He looked at me a bit odd and kinda nodded and sort of smiled. He liked it I guess...
Then I said "I guess it has plenty of power with a V-6 huh?
THEN he spoke! "Oh yea!"
I mumbled to myself at that moment..
"I want one of these" When I do that, I'm one of those types that won't rest until I get it if at all possible!

I could NOT get the thing out of my head for the rest of my day.

I called the dealer the next day (Monday) and to my surprise, learned that they were discontinued 5 years ago. I truly thought this was a new model release within the last year!!

What a design!

I got online and the door to the world of the VehiCROSS opened up! I started my search with the local papers nope. Hawaii statewide newspapers, nope.
Craigslist!
I found one! It was on Oahu. A 2000 Ebony Black one with 70K miles for $5700 or reasonable offer.

After much research and communication I knew that this was my next vehicle.
We struck a deal.

I fly over there in 2 hours to hand the guy a check for $5K after a test drive that I'm pretty sure will go just fine. The full story of the purchase is in this thread. (http://vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?t=11165&page=1&pp=15)
I should have my VX here by next Friday!

Any other Hawaii residents on here??

Hello everyone! I have been trolling on this site the last couple of weeks, I have been thinking about getting a VX for a very long time, and as of last week, I am the proud owner of an 01 Ebony! If I had not looked on this site first, I would have passed on this truck because it had some crazing on the headlights and the windows were a bit stogy, but after studying this forum I learned that these were very easy fixes (and I was able to talk the dealer down abit as well ^^). I just got done polishing the headlights, and have had all the fluid replaced with royal purple. I will be debadging it next week and generally obsessing over my new baby! I have never been so in love with an automobile! I just mainly want to say thanks to you all for sharing your ideas and thoughts on this forum, it has been an invaluable rescource for me, and I hope for years to come!

Hi! I'm new to this forum and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Don from Spokane, WA and I own a 2000 VX white ironman. I'm told that this is a very rare cool car. I was wondering if anybody out there is from Spokane (I've seen 4 other VX's so I know there's got to be some other members in the spokane area), because I think it'd be cool to hook up and start a spokane-based VX club. Or we could just get together and drink beer and talk about cars.

Hi all,
When it was time to get a new car back in 2000 I was kinda looking around. Then one day I found a this picture in a magazine in the men's room, not of a girl but of "the car for me". :) I knew my search was over... Until I tried to get one, and discovered how rareness could boost a price. But as fate would have it my one of my father-in-laws neighbors was the regional distributor for isuzu for the area, and put me in touch with a deal that had one at a fair rate. I figured you could easily spend as much on other plain cars but the VX just spoke to me. (saying "buy me! buy me!").

So I've been happy, and of course had the "Hey there goes another one" a couple of times here in DFW, Austin and surpisingly Denton. I've had it out in Turlingua where it really fit in. We recently purchased a ranch in Arkansas and I hope to retire it there, because its rugged enough to put its abilities to use but not so hard as to really tax it in the retirement years.

Which brings me to now. I knew about the board for some time and got the Dylan towing kit and found a rear view camera kit I mounted on the spoiler. But luck ran out Wensday night, when on a trip to Arkansas "Starbug" hit a deer. :( Well more like threw a deer. I saw it in time to hit the brakes and the deer had just 'sprung' a few millisecs before impact, which was at about 20 mph. No airbag deploy thank goodness. Tossed / rolled the poor thing 20 feet down the road. After it shook its head, got up and ran off. But it did leave a lasting impression on the front profile, cracking the grill, and busting in the air conditioning radiator and idle fan, and bent the tip of the hood in. The lights still work though the pattern is a bit cross eyed. Friday it goes in for insurance apprasal, which might be a bit much considering the uniqueness of the vehicle.

So we're now looking for a full up brush/cattle/deer guard :p No worry, StarBug will fly again! (with better shields) And probably a new trip computer too.

So anyway, that's my VX story to date. Let's keep them in the wild as long as we can. Starbug has 114K and other than a few new sqeaks is doing fine. Guess the 120K checkup will come a little early...

(p.s. Is there anything else out there that's inspiring pepole like the VX? If so please let me know.)

My name is Frank and I live in St Louis County, MO.
I've been driving a black '01 vehicross since early '02.
While new car shopping in late '01, I noticed a '99 vehicross in the used car section. This was my first exposure to the vx. I gave it a quick once over noting the limited access to the rear seat, the limited view from the back seat, the red accents inside, and the protruding tire shape on the rear. I told a few friends about this odd car and i just couldn't get it out of my mind. I went back the next night to give it a closer inspection, but it was gone. I was crushed and hooked at the same time. I began a search and ended up buying a black '01 in early '02 and I've been driving it nearly every day since. I enjoy this car more than any other.

Oh dear, Sorry to hear about your deer problems, Deusbot . Do a forum search. I believe it happened to another member here too. I hope yours does not get totaled but from your description it sounds like a good chance its fixable. I hope that is true. As for other things as inspiring as the VX, I am sure it is a matter of personal preference. But my preference is the VX and I am just not seeing anything new come out that comes quite close enough to being the same.

Not much responses come out on this thread though so if you have questions after the appraisal about if there are replacement parts or anything else, post a new thread and you will get more responses. And welcome to the forums. Watch for me passing through Denton in my Ebony. I go through about once a month on my way to Lewisville. :)

I live in Placer Valley, Alma Colorado, where the infamous Wheeler Lake 4x4 trail is located. My husband and I are diehard 4 wheelers that already have a Jeep Wrangler set up for off road use. Our house sits at 10,762 feet above sea level in the heart of 4 wheelers heaven. And Moab only a 5 hour drive away. The first time I saw a Vehicross, I thought it was the coolest thing, driving it confirmed that. Starting looking for just the right VX, one that had been sold in Colorado and stayed in Colorado. In March of 07, FOUND IT! It had 67k, a developing trans problem, but the price was right. And, it was an IRON MAN! I again lucked out, found a 2001 "roll over" at a Utah salvage yard with only 4200 miles on it, bought the entire driveline, except engine, for $950 delivered. That took care of the trans problem and I now have spare axles. Which, by the way, was caused by a cracked flexplate damaging the front pump bushing. You could drive it, but it wouldn't coast and it had a slight vibration. So I have offically joined the ranks! And yes, I've been to Moab with it and I still can't wipe the smile off my face.

I was living up in Bellows Falls VT thinking about the need to buy a 4wd begore winter. This was JUne 2002. I drove past a dealer's lot and there was the strangest looking vehicle out front in bright yellow. My thoughts were what the hell is that. I had to pull in and see. The dealers tag said Proton yellow i thought that meant the car was a Proton. I had never seen or heard of the VX at the time. Well I test drove it and loved it buy the dealer had a 34,000 sticker on it and I was not paying that. Of course the dealer wanted shed of it so we played around till I got him down to 24,000. A few weeks later I am in Brattleboro and 4 VX come through an intersection where i had a red light. I always think they look like the moon buggies from Space 1999. Well I moved to Tarentum PA and met a guy who sold a VX but did not give them the bra and summer tires he had so he sold them to me cheap. He actually saw me on a bridge going the other way and uturned and followed me to work to offer them to me. Since then I have lived in CT and now TX so it has seen a good bit of the East side of the USA. I was actually surprised I needed new tires last month and was worried about the price but found them available on sale at tiresavings.com for $85 a tire and these were the Bridgestone original equipment tires not some cheap knockoffs. Of course it was $15 more per tire for S&H but still cheap.

Hi, group,

My brother has owned two 1991 Troopers and now owns a 1999 Trooper. He goes where Jeeps fear to tread, that truck is fantastic. I was checking AutoTrader for a used Trooper or maybe a Rodeo, and saw a model called "VehiCross" listed. I had never heard of such an animal so had to take a look.

That's all it took!

I don't have a VX yet, but I can see one in my future, I hope within 6 months!

Hello VX gang,

I (this morning) saw my first VX at a local used car lot, and I have to admit I was blown away by the styling, outside and in. I'm a huge Hummer nut, so SUV's are my passion. My daily driver right now is an Acura SLX (and as you all probably know, is a Trooper in a tuxedo). Anyhow, I'm a student right now, but I can definatley see myself in one of these boys for sure! I hope to learn a lot about 'em and meet some great new forum people!

Hi,

My name is Jon-Marc; I own an Acura CL-S, but my wife has a 99 white vx Ironman. I stumbled on this site becuase my father-in-law saw a big group of VX's at a resurant in the Dallas area and they told him to check out the website. He in turn told me to look at it, so I found 4 new 18" wheels and tires and i just got them today! I look forward to the information I can get from this site.

Hey everyone,

Just found this site and it rocks!! I have been looking to spruce up my 99 VX since I got it a year ago and this place is fueling my mind with ideas. I'm in Austin now, and I have seen at least 3 other VXs around town. I am easy to spot as I work for Tiff's Treats (which if you are from Austin then you should know what I am talking about) and have a big sign on my car when working. Anyways, looking forward to being a part of this place!

Hi Everybody,

I have been on the forums for about a month now and I just purchased a 2001 Ebony VX today. I think it is the coolest vehicle I have ever driven. I bought it from a guy on here. I was scared cause I bought it sight unseen and now that I have it I am very pleased. It was a long process but well worth it. I plan to upgrade the lights to projectors and also upgrade the fogs. It needs light. Lol. I also am wondering if I use an aftermarket radio for it can i wire the 6 disc into it? Just wondering I am gonna search a little.

A proud VXer.

Hello Everyone...

I first saw my VehiCross on ebay and fell in love with it... I flew over to Orlando to take a look at it and bought it right off the lot... I live in The Bahamas and as far as I know it is the first and only one here! There are a few things I would like to do to it the first is puting a rear view camera on the back... I will try and post pictures once its done... I expect my camera to arrive today! Anyway just want to say HELLO and that I think this is a great site, I have read many of your threads already... great to join the VehiCross family!

Sincerely,

Hi - I was looking for a 4X4 that looked cool and had sporty performance. I thought the only thing out there was the Porsche Cayenne. Then I found the V-Cross. I did a search and by incredible luck I found a dealer only an hour from me who had one. I drove over to see it and pretty much bought it on the spot. I've had to wait for the car to be registered in this country (UK) as it was imported from Japan but today is collection day! I will post photos and opinions as and when...
Great site, by the way - very helpful - I look forward to chatting with you all.
Cheers - happy driving!

Well, last time I posted here was to say that I was picking up my VehiCross. That was friday. Two days later I got hit by another car on the motorway. My mint condition VX is smashed along one side and the fear is that if the frame got bent the insurance co. will write it off. I'm hoping it won't come to that or at least i'll get the offer to buy it back and try to repair.
Ouch.
Be careful out there...

Hey Everyone, new member here.

Had my 01 Proton since Fall 06, bought it from an original owner with 70k on it - that makes me a second owner and it's going to stay that way for a very, very long time! ;) This truck ROCKS! I cannot believe Isuzu didn't ride this train - to-date there is no other SUV on the road that will outperform Vx out of the box! So what if we're a specific market - this is one exotic SUV. In any case, Vx is a great machine, I have much fun with it on/off-road. Been playing out in the swamps here in Central Florida with some of my buddies (jeeps, land rovers, hummers) and there is no other vehicle I'd rather be in. I mean the kinda s#!t I get into nobody touches, unless it's a monster 4wheeler.

Worked on the truck some, pretty straight forward with some minor exceptions. Wish Isuzu did a better job with door popper, rearview camera, reclining mechanism but hey, that's what this forum is for...

Speaking of this forum... I've been watching this site since before I bought my Vx, and it is one of the major reason I decided to make the purchase. Support communities and forum groups are a huge part of great relationship one can have with their vehicle, any vehicle. I've been on the FD3S forums for years (1993 Mazda Rx7 since 99) and we have a lot of knowledgable folks willing to help a fellow owner. I was glad to find one here. So lemme take this opportunity to take my hat off to the folks running this site and the rest of the group for their input and contribution to the Vx community. I look forward to meeting all of you.

i was hooked as soon as I saw my first VX on the net from Japan! As soon as they made their way to the states my mom took me to a dealership on main street in Vta, I was only 14 but I knew I had to have one! My mom always told me she would help me get one when I was able and she did... I came back to so-cal like I said I would (after she passed unfortunatly :nob: ) and got my job at Honda. As soon as I was on my feet, a mint Proton showed up at the dealership and I jumped all over it.. so that's my story. I've owned the best 4byer ever built for about 5 months now and it's all thanx to my loving mom! :bgwg:

99 Ebony - Red/Black Interior
Location: Phoenix, AZ(Deer Valley Area)
Purchased out of San Diego - a fly and drive weekend, end of August 07

VX has aprox 79K, Starts, Runs and Drives Great, body in great condition, a few door dings, but not bad at all, all cladding is in good shape, interior in great shape. Only issue is the passenger side window, I looked at it when i replaced the front speakers, Clips looks intact, regulator moves up and down with door switch, appears need to re-glue window back into clip.

I all ways wanted one since they first came out, Now was the time to act upon a desire. I did sell a 97 Jeep Sarah to pay the purchase of the VX. After reading this forum, I am concerned about the engine failures of the VX, But will keep a eye on the oil level. It appears that there are many out there with over 100k, and I think this is a good sign.

I hope to meet other VX'rs in the Phoenix area, will keep eye open for meets, or if any in the area wants to PM, just use VX in Phoenix in subject line.

hey all. just got a 1999 Ironman edition. i took it up to the mountains for the first time today( i live in colorado spgs) and it definitely impressed me. after tossing it around a bit i have to say they really made this car tough and usable. the approach and dep. angles are great and the wheel base is just as good as a jeep. the suspension is extremely tight and well tuned. the 4wd tod system seems very capable. i head up in the mountain about every weekend so i will defintely have some stories and results to share soon.

Just bought a silver '99 with only 44m on it. (Love buying cars from Big City Dwellers). in this case, it was a flight attendant from SF.

This will be my weekender that I will share with my almost 16 yr old. I have owned two troopers, as I have two sons that snowboard with me. 99 Trooper with 100m carefree miles just went down to San Diego State with #1 son. Now that it is just the two of us going up together, thought I would get something a little more sporty. Always wanted a VX.

My VX had already had the window regs replaced, and maint records indicate that the guy spent a lot of money on PM. Unfortunantely, he appears to have been not much of a driver. Multiple scratches in the cladding, and a large ding in the left rear pillar just above the taillight.

Hazing headlights as well.....like everybody else.

Just like my old trooper, the CD is done, so i will probably put aftermarket stereo/CD soon. Recommendations for same? Also: what do I do with the empty space when I take out the old CD?

Cladding: i was wondering if an old P-Tex candle for ski base repair would work on the scratches? Has anyone tried this? I will probably Line X the cladding anyway.....

There seems to be a lot of passion among ya'll. I have enjoyed reading the postings

hi all. im michael.. from new zealand. just got my vehicross last night. its a 97 model with 80,000 km on it.. jap import.. as are all our cars here. and its mint.. near perfect.. i love it. just need to paint it black and get some big fat tyres on it:) happy happy.. anyway.. some tips all-ready if anyone wants them.. i dissected the cable for the reversing camera, do you guys in usa get cameras in them? anyway. mine had a after-market head unit, which was jap, and has video in..tv..dvd etc.. so i cut up the cable from the reversing camera.. and found all its needed is two wires from the camera to hook it into ANY video input (RCA).. so bingo.. 1 hour and my camera is working.. im happy!! anyway.. if i think of anything else brilliant.. (thank you) ill let you all know.. cheers! great site.. oh.. i paid $13,000nz for it... thats about... $8000us.. :) and lets see.. 80,000km is about... hmm...49,000miles... thanks all

Hi, Everyone,
My name is Randy and until this past weekend, I didn't know that the VX existed! In the past, I've owned a Jeep CJ-5, and a highly modified Fiero. For the last couple of years, I've been looking for a vehicle that was a combination of the two. I think I've found it! I discovered this forum while researching the VX. I'm currently looking to buy one, so I'll let you know when I get to be an owner!
This seems to be a good group of people. I'm glad to join in!

Good day all,
I originally didn't like VXs back in '99 but as the months went by I kept thinking about them and came to my senses. :p Living here in Nova Scotia, Canada I had to accept the fact that the only way to have one was to import it.

I did my research, waited for the right time (years later), located a '99, original owner Astral and bought it sight unseen (and no pics) with 130,000mi. Yes, I wasn't passing up this opportunity! I flew down to Atlanta September ‘07, picked it up and drove it all the way back (around 1,800mi) without incident. It is in beautiful shape both in and out with just one door ding in the driver's door. I have since installed Fuzion XTi ( http://www.zauster.com/vehicross/images/Fuzion_XTi.gif ) (by Bridgestone) all-terrain tires with tribal sidewalls, rear camera connected to a single din touch screen DVD player with 4.3" screen ( http://www.zauster.com/vehicross/images/Stereo.jpg ), and added KPH to the speedometer which was required for inspection - as well as hooking up the park lights to the key switch for day time running lights.

Looking forward to hanging out with everyone here and getting support if needed. Headlights are clear and hood insert is in one piece, but I do have tilting windows for now.

Howdy. My name is D.W. Lyons, and the students I taught once started calling me DarkWing, so it stuck. Just boght the "V" about two weeks ago from a local dealer, silver, 1999, 78K miles, my little girl called it "Suzi" so it is either that, or the wife calles it my "PUV"-Performance Urban VehiCross. I called my enjoyable midlife crisis once, but decieded the wife might not like that too well. It is all stock from what I can tell. The last four of the VIN is "0147". I had to get the speakers replaced, and the window track on the passenger side, they wrecked my door panel when they were inside, so they have to find that. I saw a link to a place that listed different issues with the VX, including the wind noise around the windows, but I can't find it now. I am looking to buy the cross bars for the luggage rack, a towing hitch, and I'd love a grill/brush gaurd, but we will see. I am a HAM, so it may sprout an antenna or two. I have lots of questions, and I look forward to getting to know everyone. If there are any other VX's near Alabama, let me know.

Tanx.

Zauster - sounds like you got gavx 's astral - he had a transmission issue (why it was traded) - it's probably been fixed but make sure you keep an eye on it.

Thanks John, it was gavx's and the trans was COMPLETELY rebuilt by an Isuzu/GM trans specialist - I had it taken care of before I picked it up for $1,800 with 1yr warranty and I'm definitally keeping an eye and an ear on it :)

A born and raised Lowrider fanatic, I never would have imagined that I would have a car like the VX. I was looking for a truck to tow my trailer for my DJ Equipment. And I saw the VX with a for sale sign on it. I had to have it. It was different, and rare, I hadnt even heard of it before!

So I bought it, much to the surprise of my friends, and I love it! Now I have two babies, My 65 El Camino, and MY 99 VX :)
