Just bought an Escort SR-1 for my wife's new 350Z convertible. Does anyone have one or have any experience with this remote-mount model?

It should be in in a few days and then I'll have to plan the installation. Any recommendations out there?

Thanks,

I've got the SR-1 in my VX, with the console mounted on top of the steering column (best place for visability). If you've already bought it, then you've already done the hard part (since it can cost upwards to $1000 installed).

I first began using remotes in about '88 after having six detectors stolen in one year (although that's probably not as much of a problem these days since they're cheaper, but still). I've had about all the remotes available out there (including a couple of WAY overrated K40s), so I can tell you you've made a good choice. If you travel long trips on the interstate, you'll probably be surprised how many times a trooper LASERs your back license plate sensor after you go past an exit.

I got mine installed at a place called Sound Advice in Florida, they will actually transfer it to a new vehicle for free as long as you own the unit, which is a super deal since installation can be a good six hour job $$$.

But just remember, NO detector is foolproof these days, driving smart and aware is your first line of defense.

Besides good detectors and scanners, nothing beats also having a good set of eyes. Always keep an eye out for brake lights in the distance, as almost evryone will tap their brakes when they see a cop, speeding or not.
