Check Engine light

I have researched previous post and did not find the answer to this. If, when the check engine light comes on and it is only a loose gas cap, how long till the light goes out?

Noticed the light and had 1/2 tank of gas. Filled up and replaced the cap...light still on. VX still runs great, no sounds, stutters, shakes....

Did you disconnect the battery to reset the computer and light? Also you can take it and get the code read for free at some auto parts stores. That way you will know what caused the light to come on.

I did not disconnect the battery yet, I will do that today (did read that from an earlier post...forgot). Next step will be to find out what the code is.
