Okay, here's my question!

When I'm at a stand still (maybe first start car), the car is in "PARK", when I shift to DRIVE" I can here it. A kinda gear engaging thing. I have no other way of saying it. It doesn't sound bad by any means...it just makes a "klunk" engaging noise. My wife has a Honda, which just seams to make no noise, I had an Jimmy and Amigo which I don't remember any noise.

Is that sound normal? Does your make the same noise? Is is the TOD engaging? Should I worry about it? Do I need Fluid?

HELP!!

I have similar "klunk"... besides if you need to put it in reverse it does the same noise. I would love to get rid of the noise too...

Ditto on Spazz's ideas ...........

a 'dry' slip joint can cause a clunk - especially on a Ford Explorer ..

I have the same noise on my vx. It isn't even really a klunk noise it just sounds like the trans. engaging. Ok maybe a klunk noise, never thought twice about it. It is hard to describe

the round long thing that moves when you are in gear that goes from rear axle toward front of your VX and hook to transmission....look for 3 grease points along here...if you like I could post a pic of what grease points look like???

I see all the zerks, but what grease to use? I saw one place (not here) where someone said they only use wheel bearing grease at the u-joints, never chassis grease.

I use a regular, general pupose, lithium grease.

Really should be a high temp grease. Some lith based come that way, just be sure.

I just got new Mobil 1 HI Temp synthetic Grease. Its red and I just did my whole driveline (which was clunking) I also did my energy urethane sway bar bushings. Stuff really seems to work well. What little squeks I had are gone, and the clunk is totally gone. Stuff was 4 bucks for a tube. Great stuff...
