Nope, went to Alpine and got a great deal $2995.00 delivered!

Still about $400 more than I want to pay. I would buy one the instant the price dropped. Till then, they can sit in the box collecting dust. :p

Alpine also offers a extened warentee on the SC, 3/36,000 for $200.

Not sure what it covers, did'nt get it yet....must investigate first.

Oh, forgot to ask....

I need to get the o-rings and manifold gasket. I saw somewhere that there was a guy to go to get parts and also offers a discount from this board.

Do ya know who and where?

Question for anyone that has a sc....

Do you have a boost gauge and is it a necessity?

Cyrk
05/26/2004, 09:28 PM
I have one and it it not necessary... but sure looks cool when your at 5lbs of boost!

I got recondmended by my shop guy to do it. He say's it's very important so you can see if your getting max boost.

I'm not kean on it, but if I have to have it...I guess so. Or if you guys tell me different.

Plus my shop guy gave me a estimate of 10 hours for install(mind you this is a high preformace aftermarket shop) they have installed sc's before, they know what they are doing. In my opinion, I don't think it will take that long....what do you think?

10 hours is pretty conservative. I took mine to a "high performance" shop in Dallas... one that has installed SC's in "high performance" cars before, and it still took 2 or so days. $700 later (parts and labor) and it was ready.

I believe Tone has said, to do it yourself, set aside a weekend... I believe it. If you totally know what you are doing and have installed an SC in an Isuzu before, maybe a day if you start early and work late.

Just be ready for any extra time or money they add on... not that they will, but just be ready.

Ordered the o-rings and "upper" intake gasket from Merlin at St.Charles....nice guy, helpful.

Just checking though, he or I was'nt to sure to get the lower intake gaskets. I don't think so, only the upper intake comes off...correct?

Thanks- Jay

Actually the whole intake comes off and is replaced with the SC. I think the lower gaskets (two - one on each head) would be the ones you want. I don't remember an upper and lower choice to order when I did mine but there are two of them that need to be replaced, one on each side.

Oops, ordered the wrong part then.

There is a gasket for the upper part (one piece) and two gaskets for the lower....I ordered the upper(one piece)

I relaced my belt not to long ago..should be fine.

Thanks

After I had my SC installed, I went to the nissan dealer and ordered the
"supercharge" badge that only comes in red letters w/black back and it fits perfect under the 3.5L.

What model is this from? I'm interested in looking it up to see what it looks like!

Yea, good question.....I'm trying to figure out ways to either have a sticker made up or try to find a factory "supercharged" decal. I emailed Alpine if they have any, have'nt heard from them yet.

got any pics?

I had the idea of running a small "superchared" under the 3.5 and a small streached out one either above or below the big Isuzu in the rear....in chrome....not sure.

My brother works at a company that has a laser etching machine. Pretty cool stuff. You design what you want on the workstation attached to it, put in the piece you want etched/cut, and it works its magic. He had a Miata a while back and designed a stainless cover plate for a cubby hole in the Miata dash. It said "Miata" on it, in the cursive design Mazda designed it in... it was a nice piece.

I've never asked him to do anything for me using the machine... but I've been thinking about it!

Not sure if that would work, it etches into the metal right? Would be tough to read if on the outside of the car(oops truck). If it was cut out of the metal, that would work....like a stencil, ya know.

Dallas4u

It can do both... just depends. They (his company) made the model for the new Houston NFL stadium (Reliant Stadium), shown when presenting the final design ideas. It was made out of thick 'paper', and every precise window and opening was cut with the laser... pretty sweet model!

Well..there ya go, get'm to mock up some supercharger logo's....I'm sure they'll sell quick.

Congratulations on your purchase, Jay.

The intake gaskets you need are P/N 8-97237-538-0, and you will need two of them. I paid $18.88 each at Pitre Isuzu(Scottsdale), a year and a half ago.

Are you getting it installed at Apex? I believe Ben's crew can do it in 10 hours. Your need for a boost gauge is questionable, though it's fun watching it go up and down with the throttle. The biggest hurdle with the boost gauge is custom making the gauge pod for it, since a pre-made one does not exist for the VX.

I got my "supercharged" graphics made at a local shop, NTNS Graphix in Mesa. Ask Ben for their card. I think I paid a total of $5 for the 2 of them.

Do you have an install date set yet? Maybe I can stop in and give Ben my advice on what problems I had with my install.

Hey Zu-

Thanks, I ordered my stuff from St.Charls...going to call him tomorrow and hopefully he did'nt ship the parts yet so I can get the right part.

Going through Ben, yep..he did my breaks as well. I told him I was'nt sold on the gauge and maybe have it installed another time, but wanted to make sure I was getting full boost and how do we check that?

I should be getting the kit by next week, from that point I'll set a appointment.....that would be awsome if you dropped by!

THanks- Jay

Dallas-

That one might work, I have to measure the 3.5 to see if it fits well. Also it could go above the TOD sticker in the back. It would be cool if it came in crome as well

Thanks for the link
