Cool idea, but I don't think the window frames would be sturdy enough to support the lower door weight, but a bit of metal fabbing could remedy that, I am sure.

keep dreamin.
If you don't mind making the windows useless, split the door in half. Have the lower half fold down like a private jet's steps.

Yeah, Lambo (scissor I think they are called) would be REALLY kewl... and I've looked at an RX-7 thta had them done... its doable for any car... there is a company that makes the hinges that can be basically installed into ANY car with a decent amount of enginuity and skill. Who's gonna do it?! TTYL!

A buddy of mine is doing them on a lifted H2 Hummer with a 16" lift kit and 42" tires. I will post some pics when they are done. He told me that they can done for the VX. Push out and up!

How about suicide doors?

I am willing and able to do the "Lambo", where do I get the kit?

Is this too dorky?
I want "van doors." You know, like the side passenger door on a van. Pop out a couple of inches and then slide back (or slide forward). Would make it tons easier to get in and out of the VX in a tight parking space (since I have cladding, I generally don't worry about door dings and can park in the teeny tiny spaces with little fear).
Anyone know why no car (at least that I have heard of) has had "van doors" as the primary door type? Are they just less reliable or just nobody thought of it?

PS - VCAMILO - your "vxavitar.jpg" in your .sig is really ticking me off. You've got some sort of password on that file so it won't load, instead it pops up a login box that has to be manually dismissed every time I load a thread that you've posted in. I'm sure it is happening to everyone else too. Very rude dude.

And here I was getting ready to send off an e-mail to Scott about the pop up... nevermind!
As far as gullwing/scissor doors go... I like gullwings better, but if you can fit lambo doors to a VX that easily... wicked cool mod! I just ain't gonna do it to mine! :goof:
... and forget ever parking it in a garage again. :)

They require a long, full-height panel behind them with a regular cross-sectional shape so they can slide back. You don't see them on doors because they would eliminate functionality - essentially, you'd have to turn a sedan into a 2-door, making the back doors static so you can fit slide rails over them.

Now suicide doors.... there is something that COULD be done. As a 2 door, that makes it easier. Only ever did one suicide door conversion and that was on an old Corvair that we restored years ago. Looks good on some cars..... and bad on others. I think it would look SWEET on a VX.
You wanna really get tricked out though.... chop the top about 4". lose 4" of height all the way around and get all new glass, heh. Talk about Rat Finked out!!

...Instead of messing with the front doors create new doors out of the B-pilar section that flip up and out of the way for easy passenger entry :homer:

I think it was a innocent mistake.
VCamillo, in order to track the problem, I took out your avatar and modified your signature image tag. the problem, I beleive, is with the sig img tag as I could not get it to come up in any browser. You may want to use the domain name rather than the IP address.. Let me know if I can help.

Just to let everybody know the company that makes the lambo door kit is AutoLoc. I helped my boy do them on his Honda Prelude a few years back. We even went as far as shaving the door handles and puting a door popper kit from them. As far as the gullwing doors saw them done on a Ford ZX2 Escort. I'm thinking of going suicide myself cuz Haven't seen them done up here in RI yet.

Autoloc doesn't make a bolt on kit of course for the vx. What is going to be a major factor is the bolts on the factory door hing. Are they stacked on top of each other or side by side? I have been contemplating doing the vertical doors for about a month on the VX but I haven't go the chance to actually sit down and look at the hing and the whats behind the front fender on the vx. The hondas are pretty easy most of them are bolt on kits. The prelude all have bolt on kits, I don't think doing vertical doors on the VX is going to be as easy as the hondas, mitsubishis ect.

Dont get suckered into that. They probably offer a "universal" kit, that only needs minor welding, cutting, and facing Mecca while sacrificing a virgin.

Worm's on the money... thought about it a few years back, checked into "Lambo" conversion because it seemed to be a style really well suited to the car. For SURE not a bolt on project. Bring a welder and body shop to the party.....you'll need them. I have both, and the skills necessary, and I'll still pass. The car is unique enough on it's own, and in the end the change would bring an "Albertson's parking lot Thursday nite car club" quality to the whole thing. How 'bout some green LED's for the windshield squirters an' wheel wells ?

No doubt...the one body mod that really works. A little surprized the '93 concept didn't have 'em. Too much strengthening required (with alot of body work to follow) to do it right. Then the paint, ahhh the paint; can't just jam it...gotta shoot the whole thing...mebbe drop it a bit first( hell it's apart anyway) So I might as well..........You see the problem

I'm down with WyrreJ, I vote van doors... Was thinking of doing this mod using parts from a Dodge Caravan if I ever can afford it. It would set nicely.
Scissor doors are nice but the door needs to be narrow... When you open the door it looks like the the front bottom corner of the VX door would be at about the seat bolster. That's no good.
Suicide doors would be the easiest way to go, but I think the look is too ol' school for the VX.
Just my thoughts.

Like the-??? Senku???- Mazda RX-8/9 concept this year. Down with the shape but, shove the rotary engine. The doors are decidely cool, but damn hard to replicate on a VX
