Gas Mileage

I have a 2001 Proton which I absolutely love. I wish it got better gas mileage however and was wondering if anyone has put in the Calmini High Flow air filter. If so, have you noticed any difference in gas mileage? Is there another option for saving gas? Would appreciate your input. Thanks!

I have seen people say the have lost fuel economy removing the stock air box. I purchased the Calmini and found the fitment poor and cost expensive. I would recommend Mike Morgans intake. He has posted on here a few times. I am getting one as soon as I get the coin together. As for the fuel economy I believe the increase in air adjusting fuel mixture higher. Secondly (hypothesis) the air box creates an ideal pressure effect. Yes, you get more performance but you also use more fuel. Pull the snorkel out, for starter, I would recommend to use your power button, keep your pressures on your tires to the top of the recommended spec (29psi) and go easy with the pedal mashing. If the clamini doesn't go in get a K&N fillter but don't over oil it....I am sure others will chime in. Good Luck

Filled up the tank today and figured my gas mileage out to be the best ever so far at 19.7 mpg. Some 80mph interstate traveling included during tank burnoff.

14 gallons used to traverse 276 miles yields 19.7mpg.*

*stock intake/engine on stock 18"wheels & Bridgestone tires

I'm on vacation this week and I'm doing a lot of driving, so I've been checking my mpg. I'm getting the same mpg as Roger.

Tuesday and Wednesday- 326.6 miles on 16.55 gallons=19.73 mpg.
Thursday- 244.2 miles on 12.23 gallons=19.97 mpg.
Friday- 260.6 miles on 13.09 gallons=19.91 mpg.

I have over 77K miles with stock size tires and stock exhaust. I have a K&N drop-in filter with the restrictive part of the intake elbow cut out. I usually got 17.5 to 18.5 mpg, but I don't know how to explain this very consistent higher mpg I'm getting now. Whatever the reason, I like it, plus Sheetz gas is only $1.87 a gallon.http://www.wtv-zone.com/markg/mags/mags2/drive.gif

I get relatively good gas mileage for a 5 year old vehicle with just over 41k on the ODO. Now that I've lightened up my foot, mileage has nearly doubled from 10mpg to 18mpg. Funny how fuel prices can have an effect on the weight of the throttle foot :naughty:

Also recommend pedal power :yes: Bikes are great for short trips.
