so here my little story bout being addicted to my vx. firs off, my vx was my first car,it was out of my budget and it isnt a sports car. being chinese boy usally makes me a ricer, no domestics, just hondas, toyotas and nissan. but ive always been in love with a mazda car called the rx7. for aslong as i can remember i always wanted a rx7. well the rx7 was in my budget, at about 13000 for the 93+ (FD) and 5000 for the 86-92 (FC). i looked at both when i was car shopping and test drove some of them. the FD was everything a boy could dream of, quick and nimble handling, lighting fast, and a 9000rpm redline. i could get the FD in 3rd to hit over 100mph. the FC(turbo version) was no slouch either, not quite as fast as the FD, it was a milder version of the FD. after driving both cars i was completely inlove with them, but i had 1 problem, parents. my parents always like cars higher off the ground, we dont even have a sedan in the family. so they just told me "NO SPORTS CARS."

being pissed off but in need of a car, i started shoppin for suvs. first choice new xterra, a cheap new car. for 20k it was still out of my budget but budgets change when your parents also like teh car. so we went to the nissan dealer, when we got there we looked at everything, the new maurodo(sp?), sentras blah blah blah. nothing was really eye catching. so we drove home. while driving home i see this little silver thing in the parking lot of a honda dealer. i remember seeing it in a magiznie back in 98. so we took a look. it looked unique, like nothing we have ever seen. so we walked into the dealer and after 3 to 4 hours of "talking" we settled on 15000 out the door for a 35k miles flawless vx.

so now i have had the vx for about a year. being still, so inlove wiht the rx7 i could just sell the vx off for one, 43k miles vx, backup camera, screen..blah blah blah....16k, but i havent. maybe it has something to do with being number #0928, or maybe the look of the vx has grown on me, or maybe i like being the only vx at my school of 10,000. i duno wat it is all i kno is im not selling.

Not to sound too disgusting... but the 93+ RX7 has always given me a Viagra rocket. ;)

My story isn't too thrilling. My wife bought a '99 Rodeo and I saw the VX in the lot. Over the next year I loved it but couldn't afford it. At the end of 2000 my wife had to swap her Rodeo for a 2000... I saw another VX on the lot. I then started looking through AutoTrader and saw a used one at a Chevy dealer. I drove my 'pristine' '97 Prelude to the dealer, test drove the VX, and bought it. I didn't trade the 'lude for it thinking I could just sell it outright... it took me 3 months, paying for two autos, before I sold the 'lude for $2k less than what I was asking.

Anyway, I wanted the VX so badly I paid 3 months extra car payments and took a hit on my other car just to keep it.

My story began when I saw one back in 99', it was a gentleman who just got it (had a windows sticker). I couldn't remember what it was called, until one day. Sam's Club!

Yup, went shopping at Sam's Club and saw a silver one parked. I couldn't keep my eyes off it. I 'abandoned' my family just to go to the parking lot to take a closer look. Other people were also interested in it. From that day on, I've always joked to my friends how I was going to get a VX.

Probably 2-3 years went by, and I haven't saw a VX. Until my parents asked me for suggestions on SUV. Of course I told them about VX. (around 2001) We all went to the local Isuzu dealership but they were closed on the weekend. I pointed it out to them in the show room, they were like "that looks really small for a suv, like a toy"...:D

Obviously they didn't went for it, and my VX craze has came back. After getting my Integra and X-90, I just wanted to save some money for a VX. After saving for 2 years and sold the X-90, I was able to get a VX.

Now almost everytime I take a drive to the local market or school, I turn back and take a glance at it. Sometimes it's just too hard to believe it, knowing that I bought it within my budget after saving/selling my previous ride. It makes me smile big time :)

I design cars at the biggest automaker in the world, and get to drive all the 'competitive' vehicles from other companies and I can tell you why we are addicted to the VX. It really is something special. Every car I drive from the garage here is nice, but they all make me miss my truck. Part of the reason I like to take the fancy cars home is because they make me appreciate what I have all over again. It sounds strange to drive around in dream SUV's such as Audi AllRoads, and Infinity FX45's, and BMW X5 4.6is' and be thinking, 'It's OK, but kinds strange feeling and fake... I wish I was driving my 3 year old Isuzu." but it's sooooooo true. And I still get a LOT more looks and questions about my VX in one week, than all the cars I driven from work in 4 years combined. It's a great and special and unique vehicle and we would be crazy NOT to be addicted to it!

Hi,

Read your story and I have to say that owning my VX has been great too! I remember when it first came out and how awe-struck I was with the lines and the aggressive stance. Even today, the design still endures. Like you, I too didn't have the budget for a new VX. Actually, I didn't agree with the bastard dealers who were placing a $5k markup. Greedy bastards! Anyways, got my '99 a few years ago and have never looked back! One of the greatest and funnest things is surprising a lot of people off the line. Although, it's not appealing as it was when I was a few years younger. However, I still get the satisfaction when it comes to jerk-drivers. The one question I have is how do you tell the production number of your VX? The last thing I want to add unfortunately, is the pain I get when I have to fill up the ol' tank. Damn the gas prices are painful.
