Towing on the VX

Can any one give me the details of how much a 99 VX can or cannot tow - and where to get a hitch from ?

Anton,
while oficially Vehicross is not recommended for towing because of the short wheelbase, many people reported towing weights up to 4000 lb. But you have to be carefull not to "jacknife" when you're towing.

As to the hitch itself, you have 2 choices:
Dalan hitch, and the Tone's one. While installation of Tone's hitch is a little more complicated, it looks much better - people think it's factory installed. That's what I have and am very happy with it. Search for some pictres here, plus Tone has more details on the hitch he's offering.

I know with my Jeep Wrangler both the 4 and 6 cyl are rated at 2000 lbs. The old bodied style Cherokees with the 6 cyl is rated at 6000 lbs.

Like edyavno said they are limited by wheelbase and weight of the vehicle.

Wranglers range between 3105 to 3316 lbs (curb weight) and a wheelbase length of 93.4 inches.

The VX weighs 3955 lbs with a wheelbase of 91.8 inches.

So I based on assumption the VX would be around 2000 lbs as these two vehicles are very similar.

That's not to say that the VX can't tow more I would just be very careful and a good set of trailer brakes maybe advised.

The VX is build on the 2 door Trooper frame with the same powertrain and IT is rated for towing 5K lbs. I have towed about that much in the middle of a hot Texas summer at a high rate of speed and not had any problems. But while backing up, you will need to exercise more care. I strongly recommend more frequent fluid changes on ANY vehicle used for towing.
