Remote not functioning?

I went to look at a VX for sale today and they said that the remote was working before they installed a new battery in the remote. Does the alarm need to be reset to activate the remote again? If so how do you reset the remote?

Also since the remote wasn't functioning, could someone tell me if the remotes lock and unlock the doors or is it only an alarm?

Hey JAFO,
I replaced the factory Battery with a OPTIMA Yellow Top Battery so time ago and the alarm works just fine. I really couldn't tell you why yours isn't working but you should have the dealer check it again. That sounds funny to me. As for the alarm I am wondering is it a factory alarm? The alarm also works as keyless entry.

Don't know if replacing the REMOTES battery would cause this but the OWNERS MANUAL has the procedure for resetting the alarm. Hopefully that will help. The remote operates the alarm as well as locking/unlocking the doors.

The alarm manual that comes with the VX only shows how to program the alarm with respect to options. If the remote is no longer recognized by the alarm, it will need to be ’taught’. Depress and hold the green “learn“ button (the only one) located on the bottom of the black alarm box, leftmost box of the brake pedal on the firewall. Then press the lock/unlock button on the remote(s). The Option button can be programmed to do the same thing by pressing it next if you wish.

The remotes/alarm should NOT lose programming when changing batteries or if the car battery is swapped.

There is another VX that I am also concidering if the before mentioned one doesn't go through. It doesn't have the remotes as it's a bank repo. I forgot to ask the parts department at my local dealer before they closed tonight, but can extra factory remotes be purchased? Or are they hard to come by?
