Yesterday my check engine light came on. This is the first time it's ever happened in over 80k miles. It was a very hot day, but when it cooled down later in the evening, it went out.

Does anyone have any ideas about what might have caused it, or can someone tell me how to read the code?

Go to your local Auto Zone (or whatever they are called in your area) and they will read it for free and tell you what it is.

Once the dummy light goes out, will they still be able to read the code?

but, most of the time no.

I seem to remember that somebody else had this same problem when it got really hot out. But I did a search and can't find the old post. Does anyone remember what caused the problem for the other VX?

My check engine light has come on twice in the last three weeks. Both times it has gone out within a day. VX does not seem to be running weird in anyway, although I am not a mechanical expert by any means. And it hasn't been hot here lately, so I am completely lost as to what it may be, all fluid levels are good. I took it to Autozone to get a read on what code it may be sending. But they couldn't find the port to plug into! Anybody help me out with where this port is so next time it comes on I will know where to tell them.

Thanks!!

Make sure to check your oil level regularly to play safe.
