My Supercharger idler pulley bearing has gone out. It makes a bad grinding noise when ran, kinda like a loud hiss with a slight whistle. There is play (front to back when pulling on belt) in it so I am pretty positive it is the bearing. So my question is what type of bearing is in there? Can I pick it up locally or do I need to go through Alpine/Tone.

Thanks in advance,
Alan

NSK bearing part # 6301C3, the C3 means high speed. Found it in town!

Any idea what the sealed bearing that fits the nose cone is?

No idea, but a quick phone call to Alpine and you can find out.

$300. Ouch. I have two nose cones already, another $300 for an experiment isn't worth it to me. Maybe once someone near DC gets a supercharger with the updated nose I'll reconsider.

My idley pulley bearing siezed, and it threw the SC belt.

The pulley has a little bit of damage from this, but nothing I couldn't clean up with a pass in the lathe. I tried to get a stock replacement pulley, but no chance of that.

Looking under the hood of my friends LS1 C5 I see almost the exact same pulley. Same diameter, same number of belt grooves. I bought one at the local parts place for $18. The new pulley is glass filled nylon, and at least a pound lighter. The bearing also has a slightly bigger hole, and a bit more backspace.

I made up a new reducer bushing with more backspace to compensate.

I still need to make up a new front retainer/dust shield. More pictures in the next few days.

The front reducer and bearing dust shield. I added some ribs to this for some pizzaz.

It gets reinstalled this weekend.

And another?
Could you draw it up and get a shop to make 10?
Nice job.
Thanks, Roy

I could make more easily, I do this for a living.

BTW..Been eyeing this as an upgrade once I'm satisfied it all works.

If mine works, I see no reason why that one wouldn't.

I won't be trying this till the weekend, then I'll know. I had to do the backspace by guess, since my pulley totally nucleated I don't know yet if its right. I don't know the original measurement from back edge of stock puley to mounting plate.

Happy to report that this works as planned.

There probably is an idler pulley out there that is a direct replacement for ours with no bushings or spacer needed. For some reason they wouldn't let me go through the shelves at the parts store and open every box to find one.

When your pulley goes bad it will eventually sieze as mine did, and throw the belt. You won't get stuck, the engine will still run, just stock power.

As it looks like there is some need/interest in this, I will make up a few for those that need. I'm planning on only making 1 run of this, so if you want one tag up and say so. Materials, labor, and US postage, I think $40 will cover me. You will buy your own replacement pulley.

I'm going to let this sit a couple weeks untill anyone who wants chimes in, then run them all at once.

Two of these.... and one of these :dan_ban:

For You John...

I'm in for one bushing/spacer.

PM me the details when the time comes...:thanx:

Also, sorry if this a dumb question, but would this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110510983682) work as well as the other billet one you listed?

Looks like not as pretty, but otherwise same-same?

Any brand LS1 pulley should be interchangeable. The one I used is Dayco, but its generic. If there is any doubt send it to me and I'll make an adjustment if necessary.
