15" or 2 10"??

ive had plans on adding a sub and an amp for quite some time to the vx. i bought a sub+amp+box off bestbuy for 100 bucks, so u can guess how crappy it is. so now ive decided to acutally buy a nice set of sub(s) and amp, the box i can get custom made.

so heres teh real question, should i get 2 10" or 1 15"? also wat company should i get for the speakers and amps. i know this has to do with personal preference but since i dont have any real experience i dont have my personal preference. im also a poor college student, so i dont have much money.

Alot has to do with your type of music... But.. for the best all around... 12's tend to be the most popular. 15's give REAL good LOW bass.. but not so good in everything else.
In my RX7, i had two 10's, and was very pleased with the performance. But it was a much smaller car.
My BMW had one 12 in a ported/wave box.. and it beat... it sounded great.
As far as brand.... I was a DIE HARD JL Audio fan. The arent cheap.. but they are the best IMO.
Another good company, believe it or not is the new MTX line. MTX REALLY sucked there for a long time, but they are "re-born" as of late. There Thunder series are great. the 9500 is just a beast... Kinda over kill in some cases. So you might want to look in to the 7500 and 8500's.
Those are just two brands that i was impressed with. There are TONS of great brands. Dont get sucked into cheap sub that hit REAL good ( i.e MA Subs) They sound damn good at first... but they arent constructed very well. But they offer great warranty's.. and you can return em, and they will just send you a new one, pretty much no questions asked. Same goes for JL and MTX.. they just dont have alot of returns, due to the better workmanship.

I REALLY like the Elemental Designs (http://www.edesignaudio.com/) subs. Car audio nuts LOVE them... they are damn sexy and not too pricey. Also look at JL Audio, IDQ, and Resonant Engineering. There are a lot of nice subs out there it's hard to recommend just one.

Oh... and to echo the above, you can make 2 10's sound REALLY good... most of their potential is in the box!!! It needs to be configured and constructed, again, for the potential of the subs you purchase.

I am running two JL 10 inchers in my VX right now. Like KBoogie, I have been in the car audio game since the late 80's. I have run all types of configurations and sizes, 15, 12, 15 and 12, 12 and 10, band-pass, ported, sealed, even isobaric and the one thing that I have found is that as long as you build the box "right" (i.e. solid, well sealed where it is supposed to be sealed, and pay attention to ACTUAL internal volume of the box taking into account all of your bracing and the speaker frame and magnet itself) you will end up with a good sounding box. ALWAYS get more power than you think you need in your sub amp. This keeps you from clipping and keeps your bass sounding right. Run a proper sized capacitor with the right guage wire as well and you will be ensured of nice lows. It is important to be able to move large amounts of current and have large amounts on tap to ensure clean sound.

So what is the short version answer? On a budget you can make 2 10s sound right if you pay attention to what you do, EVERY ELEMENT of what you do. This means no weak links. Of course yours won't sound like the JL van, but you won't be spending tens of thousands of dollars either...

I would go with 2 10's, I would think that the 15 would rattle the living hell out of the VX. If you listen to rock definately go with the 10's

i would go with 12's. they seem to be the best all around sound. and as for the brand JL AUDIO. they make some of the best subs.and they are built to last.i had 3 12w6 's in my escort they were awesome.
there are a few suppliers on ebay that are almost half the price as any store. jl also makes a good amp. i prefer US AMPS .i had an old school 400 that i abused and never had a problem.it was not supposed to be run a 1 ohm but it kept on going for 5 years. after which i sold it and it could still be going. also a sealed enclosure is the way to go. shawn
