Mark your calendars...

VEGAS Get-together

February 25-26, 2005

Have you wanted to go to Vegas for a long time but needed an excuse? Would you like to meet VXer's from other parts of the country but cant go to Moab?

A VX owner meet in Vegas may be the answer! Whether you live close enough to drive or have to take a plane, it will be a great time to meet old friends and make new ones, all sharing a common thread - the VX.

We could try to find a hotel we can all stay at or you could stay wherever you wish. Perhaps the VX'ers living in Vegas may have some ideas on things to do & places to gather. We need ideas! (Anyone with connections to hotel deals out there?) ;Dr;

More details as we figure things out.

At the very least, we will spend some time hanging out, gambling, eating and laughing together while enjoying a great weekend vacation.

.... thank you very much. ;Do; ;Dp; ;Dr;

Sweet! I need to start saving up that vacation time now. Man I love that place!

I am such a gambler, my buds and I have poker night here at least 2 times a week! Any locals in Vegas wanna see if there is any Hold'm tournament's going on around that time? I will be staying in a very cheap room somewhere, Motel 6? Last time I stayed at Terribles and well.... I don't wanna talk about it, I'm not going back.

I'm in too - (barring unforeseen circumstances)! Don't know if I will drive or fly - leaning towards flying but not sure yet.

I am soooooooooooooo looking forward to this trip.

I have a suggestion for dinner, either night. It's a little pricey but very worth it....Del Frisco's steak house. It's a standalone restaurant - not in any casino...food and service are fabulous, beautiful atmosphere, it's got a cigar lounge AND...they have the coolest James Bond table that opens up kind of like a flower to expose a hand-painted bottle of wine for each James Bond movie.

Anyhoo, just a thought - I'm in for just about anything. Who's up for riding the coaster at NYNY?? ;Dp;

AndyC
11/22/2004, 05:49 PM
Huumm I've been to Vegas several times and never rode the NYNY roller coaster. I'm game if I can sit next to you :mbrasd: :D

When I was there in September I stayed at Sahara a couple nights- wasn't to impressed just OK. Then stayed at the Crown plaza Atrium. -- wow. It was excellent.

The steak place sounds great. I was amazed with the resturants that we found when we were there.. Great meals in all.

Well I guess I'll mark it down on the calender.
Count me as a fly in :p

Anita
11/22/2004, 11:34 PM
Lisa,

The Dal Frisco has probably the best steaks anywhere. And yes, the place is really quite something to experience. I would vote for going there on one of the weekend evenings.

AlaskaVX
11/23/2004, 04:24 PM
I am definately down with the roller coasters cause well, we don't have any here and last time I was in Vegas my freind told me he would puke on me if we went.

As for all these nice restaurants and whatnot, I will sit there and drink with everyone, but there is no way in hell you will see me eat a $50+ meal! I'm a cheap *** the whole way, I'm going to Vegas for the FREE DRINKS, gambling, oh and 1.99 buffets! Last time I think I stayed at a roullete table for 8 hours and finished off 24 redbull and vodka's. I have to make my money one way or another and if loosing $100 gets me 24 redbull and vodkas then I can consider myself up.;) I'm a good drunk though don't worry

Anita
11/23/2004, 04:37 PM
No problem wit dat. There will be other outings planned. We will make sure you have all your money in hand to gamble it away !! ;Dr;

Joe_Black
11/23/2004, 04:43 PM
Well we're all anxious to get our reservations and flight booked, so any ideas on a place to stay? A centralized room-hopping den of VX madness for the weekend or each denizen on their own? ;pg;

Hey, how about all who can't bring their VX with them bring instead a color 8X10 for a group shot! ;Do;

Anita
11/23/2004, 04:47 PM
I think that is an excellent idea about the photos.

It would be great if we could all agree on one place to stay, but I would think that might be hard with different tastes and budgets.

Does anyone care to check into hotel deals. I might have an "in" with the general manager at the Ritz Carlton.. but that is not on the strip. LisaK was going to ask a friend that might have an in to the big hotels.. so we shall see soon.

Mark me down as a fly in. As for dinner, I'm always up for a good meal and vegas hasn't let me down yet. Its the only place I've been able to get a gormet meal in 10 min or less, gotta love tenderloins and garlic mashed at paris in 8 min 32 sec :) So, I'm up for Del Frisco's if others are. I'm not a big coaster person, but last time I didn't ride it and I've been kicking myself ever since.

As for hotels, I personally liked the MGM Grand. It's not the cheapest, but its also not really expensive. I'm up for whatever comes out to be the best option.

Just got off the phone with Anita no too long ago. If there are no unforseen complications with work during that time, may be considering a drive down to Vegas with the family to meet everybody again. I thinks it's about 8 hours from the bay area.

Anita

Ron,

It would be a great thing if you came that you bring samples of your new mods along with the old, so we could see them up close and personal.

I am really looking forward to seeing your new versions of the front grill!!!;Dr; ;Dp; ;Db; ;Do; ;Db;

I would love to help research but know absolutely nothing about Vegas so I don't think I would be helpful.

Maybe we could arrange like we do at Moab - one main area with the option of going elsewhere if the group choice doesn't work for you.

Hi All, Count me in as a fly in. I will come in Friday morning (9 am) and leave Sunday afternoon (3pm). Where are we going to stay?
Larry

Anita
01/07/2005, 11:08 AM
I didnt think that all who are coming may have the same budget when it comes to hotel cost. Depending on where you stay costs can be dramatically different.

Lisa and I will be at the MGM Grand. Lisa found a decent rate going through Expedia.com. Nothing on the strip is going to be cheap. FOr those who just need a place to drop off their suitcase there is always Terribles.. which by the way has the $4.99 prime rib with everything. $1.99 will buy you are great meal there anytime.

More to come. :clap: Vegas baby

It will be great to see you again Larry! Jennifer and Lisa B you better come too. We must have a strong showing of the lady VX owners!!

AndyC
01/07/2005, 06:05 PM
OK so who's staying where while in Vegas?

I see Anita and Lisa are at the MGM, anyone else going to stay there?
When I was out there in September we all stayed at different hotels, but it would be cool if a bunch of us were at one.
I'm game for any place where there is a group of VX'er :dance:

I was checking Expedia.com out and they're pretty good to deal with.(done it several times before with no problems)

Hello All,

I've never been to a VX meet and greet before, but it souns fun. Ever since Anita mentioned it, I've been thinking of some good places to meet. As others have mentioned, not everyone will be staying at the same hotels, and even if they were, the parking garage doesn't make for a cool backdrop for photos. I have three basic suggestions. 1). Red Rock Canyon. It is a State Park located 30 minutes straight west of the strip that offers gorgeous views of the city. Because it is a state park, there is no off-roading, but there is a 13 mile scenic loop with many areas to pull off and park for a group photo. 2). Mt Charleston. Mt. Charleston is about a 45 minute drive and it makes you forget that you just came in from the desert. Off-roading is limited there as well but they have lots of snow and pine trees and the world's best hot chocolate up at the lodge. Elevation is 9,000 feet, and if you have never been, then its worth the trip. 3). My final humble suggestion are dry lake beds. We are surrounded by them. Many have trails, and flat smooth areas as well, and there is all the room in the world to do pretty much whatever we want. I taught my mother how to drive on one of those lake beds and was greatful that there was nothing around :happyface . I'll be happy to answer any questions if I can. I look forward to attending.

Lampster,

Thank you for the great ideas for some off-road fun. I think that we will have a mix of owners with and without their rides. So perhaps for those who come with their Vx's, a trip out can be planned for Saturday morning. As far as a photo shoot of all of us, I think it would be a good idea to find a place to meet in town, line up what VX's are there, take pictures and then let the VX's go on their run. THe VX-less of us can turn to more mundane things to do like gamble, check out the car museum, or liberace's house.. :rollo:

Oh, and some great news. I contacted Isuzu America and they are going to be giving us some great VX goodies. Next week I am going to pick the stuff up, so I will have a better idea of what we got. Sounds like there might be enough to pass on to other meets. We shall see.

Keep tuned in... ;party:

just waiting to see where everyone is going to wind up. Since I will be by myself, I kind of want to be in a hotel where there are other VX owners. What time are people getting in Friday night?

Anita
01/11/2005, 02:41 PM
Jennifer, I think Lisa and I will be getting there around 4:00 pm on Friday. We are going to make reservations for dinner at the Del Frisco that evening, so hopefully we can include as many people as possible who will be in town by then.

I hope to join you all as well. My Fiance and I are both excited to hang out with you all. I just hope my other commitments won't get in the way. I'll be watching for the final posting of when/where.
See you all soon! :p

I 've been checking out these hotels and it's tough to cough up almost $500 for 2 nights. I've been to Vegas several times and found the hotel is a place to sleep for a few hours and shower, that's about it. Anyone want to share a room and split the cost on one of these higher end hotels. If not I'm just going to book a room at about half that for the 2 nights.
See ya in Vegas,
Andy

AlaskaVX
01/13/2005, 11:51 AM
Well the more I look at the hotel rates I think I am going to have to stay off the strip and take the bus around. It looks like El Cortez (sp) is a very cheap place to stay and has descent review, just in a not so good part of town. Plane tickets are $360 and with hotel for 6 nights it will run me $640 total (includes airfare). That is definately in my budget. I think I am going from the 22nd-1st. Planning on spending a few days at the poker/Hold'm tables before everyone gets there.

Anita
01/20/2005, 11:54 AM
Okay, I've heard from a number of you going and I want to make sure we can contact each other once we get into town. Email LisaK or I for our cell phone numbers and give us yours. :)

Got some nice goodies from Isuzu that I will bring along and pass out when we all meet.

Anita
01/20/2005, 12:05 PM
Oh yes, just in case some didnt see the other Vegas thread, on Friday night we are planning to have dinner at a great restaurant off the strip.

Del Frisco (http://www.delfriscos.com/lasvegas/)

If you want want to join us please email me or Lisa K. We need to get a head count for the restaurant.

The Del is pricey but well worth it. More budget-minded restaurants will be planned for the remainder of the weekend.

Just wanted to let everyone know I will not be attending this event in hopes for attending Moab '06

Nerfzooka

I'll be there. I live there.

I know the times, locations and nausea factors of all the local roller coasters. There is a new one at the top of the Stratosphere tower that teeters you over the edge. Wanna try it?

Noon Saturday the light will be favorable for a group picture at the "Fabulous Las Vegas" sign. Anyone with or without their vehicross interested?

Anita
01/25/2005, 09:31 PM
Looks like we are going to have quite a group out for this. Dont know how many VX's will be in attendance but a pic with the sign sounds great. I sent ya an email with various questions.

I am hoping Lampster would be willing to take the VX's there for a little off road fun. More emails will go out to you all about details on whats up for us.

Get you and your VX in this picture! Lighting will be optimal at noon Saturday. Hey! a night picture would really glitzy, but I haven't got a flash big enough.

Anita
02/03/2005, 03:05 PM
Sounds great! Why dont we meet there at 11:00. That will allow time for stragglers. For those who wont have VX's, take a 8x10 size pic of your VX along with you to Vegas. We will have a kind-of-a line up.

What is the address and directions to that sign?

Nerfzooka
02/14/2005, 04:33 PM
The "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign is on the median of Las Vegas Boulevard (a. k.a.the Strip)south of the big Casinos (Tropicana Ave.), north of Sunset Ave, near the Mc Carren airport. Be prepared to jump the curb to get near it.

PS I'll look around for a bit but need to get some sleep since it's going to be an early morning trip to the airport.

My Fiance and I want to join you all on Saturday morning/afternoon. Can't make it to dinner on Friday. Anita, I think you have my cell number. Something went wrong when I tried programming yours in my cell.. can you PM me w/your number? Is there a breakfast still planned for Sat. morn? Off-roading?

Anita
02/21/2005, 11:48 PM
Jim,
I think that the VX's present will be the Vegas owners'. Lampster talked of knowing a few trails so I PM'd him about taking the off-roaders early morning on Saturday if he is able. Then we would meet for lunch and a photo op at the Vegas sign. I was happy to see weather forecasts for next weekend as dry... at least for now. I PM'd you my cell#.

02/22/2005, 08:53 AM
I can be a "backup" Off-road leader if he isn't able to. I know a few sites on the other side of boulder dam if people are interested. Please let me know what time the off-roading trip will be on Saturday. Thanks! (got your PM,thks)
