I don't know if this helps, but mine has been doing the same thing since the weather has gotten cold. If I just keep pressing the brake pedal & trying to push the unlock button on the shifter it usually goes after a few tries. Probably not the most reliable method, but will have to do until I have time to take it apart & look.

similar trouble.
since i got the new engine i have to gently slam it into park to even get my key out.
maybe it is similar that you need to make sure something is engaged all the way.

I had that problem before, but mine was transmission mount bolts were loose. The slight angle deflection misaligned the tranny shifter. Check that first. Another deal could be the pressure against the tranny ie. parking on a hill with the weight of the vehicle against the release from park. The third could be some adjustment or part wearing, but I doubt it. Good luck

I assume you are presssing on the brake pedal when you are pushing the button and trying to move the shifter? ;) A cable goes from the brake pedal arm to a release mechanism on the shifter. Inability to move shifter is commonly caused by working under the dash and moving or disrupting the cable or the mechanism under the center console getting out of alignment. Try wiggling the cable (looks like a bike bradk cable) under the dash before pulling the console.
