Its funny how most of the people that buy those things will never takem them off-road. Makes me sick. But I did know this guy that did beat the hell out of his truck. He had those aluminum panles so beat up that the dealer sent his Discovery to the shop to have the truck re-done back to 100% all free to him cause the truck was so bad ***. :-) The LR3 looks promising...

Whats up with that Rover? One of the greatest expedition vehicles ever coming with low profile rubber band tires!?!?!?!? I guess we know which crowd they are aiming for...MALL CRUISERS!

Not to say its any less capable...with a few mods!

Those two trucks are completely different. The Rover company was split and bought out I think in the mid '90's. LAND Rover is owned by everybodys favorite- Ford. RANGE Rover is owned by BMW. Look at the hoods. Go figure out which one is better made. I helped a guy with a brand new land rover on the side of the road near Montgomery, AL Broken down. Sad thing is- it has a Ferd engine. Worst thing I have seen was in 2002 in Austin, TX a 1997 Land Rover Discovery for sale. 97,000 miles for 9,000 bucks. Sounds tempting? I test drove it on and offroad. Great truck. Popped the hood and was greeted by a Ford badge on the engine and it was leaking oil like a sieve at all gaskets. Looked like an old Ford under there. I promply returned it. If you can afford a Range Rover- buy it. Its great.

Land Rover is made by ford??? I'm fairly certain they showed Land Rovers and Range Rovers together at the last car show. Doesn't make sense???

Land Rover makes the Range Rover and Land Rover is owned by Ford (http://ford.com). Ford also owns Volvo, Jaguar, Auston Martin, Mazda, Lincoln and Mercury.

I am wrong- or just not updated. A BBC article reveals that in 2000 Ford bought the marque from BMW which owned Range Rover from the '90s. Now Ford is the total owner of the old "Rover" company. Now Land and Range Rovers follows Volvos fate.:(

By the way Volvo trucks are still owned by Volvo, Volvo cars are owned by Ferd.

I have an 04 RR.
Land Rover is owned by Ford after ford bought out LR in late 90s or early 2Ks. That includes Range Rover. They are not split up.
The thing is, Ford bought the readily BMW developed Range Rover and instead of re doing the design the went ahead and sell as it was.
The Range Rover is all BMW sans Radio and NAv system on the 05 RR. BMW agreed to supply ford with the engine for a couple more years.
The RR is a nice car comfortable but I dont think its worth the money. I get more enjoyment and satisfaction out of the VX than the RR. I feel like the VX is more of an extension of me rather than transportation equipment

Think twice, if you have never owned a Landrover. Looks good, but their break down record is insane, and so are parts. Besides, I am still trying to find a vehicle that looks better than the VX...I may never succeed.

Oh, except maybe for an Unimog Doka Tug! but forget driving on the Fwy.

Unimogs make other trucks do this- :waab:

Right on Mr. Crowley. I recently sold mine for one reason, too f#@$%^ slow on the hwy. Just not good for those long journeys to Death Valley unless one is retired. What it could do in the dirt; let's just say I would bail the vehicle before I maxed it, unbelievable. Man I do love my VX though.

Thanks for the input.

Not sure if you are really joking but CYRK did. Check back. The Rear window is meant to offer more rear view vision from the driverside.

.
Ford just recently released the new 'old' Mustang ......
.
maybe they will introduce (re-introduce ?) the Bronco ..... again ........
.
How about it ........ a relatively compact 4 (or 5) seat 4WD SUV .... on a full frame ...... with a small V8 ........
.
I think I saw a similar concept recently ......... maybe they can match or up the Toyota FJ cruiser .......
.
???

I swapped my Range Rover for the VX. I was actually looking through the ads for something for my wife but couldn't resist the VX, I'd wanted one since I first saw it at the motor show as a concept.
My RR was the earlier all BMW model and although it was generally a good car on and off road it suffered badly from poor build quality (it was still built in the UK), I got fed up with bits falling off it or not working.
My VX feels bullet proof in comparison to the RR and I couldn't believe my luck with the deal.

PS The Discovery and Freelander also have bad reputations over here for build quality and reliability.

English cars have electrical problems, my friend had a discovery, and one day it wouldnt start, and just like my moms old jag, the entire electrical was messed up, she still wanted a newer jag, so far her s type hasnt had any problems, its pretty quick.
