Hey VX fans. This may have been done before but I'd love find out who has the most miles on their VX. Possibly also include any problems you may have had accumulating these miles. I only have 56k on mine, 4k since I've owned her. Nothing to brag about...yet.

We should probably poll every year as I originally answered back in 2004. I currently am about to hit 100k - only major item has been the ABS unit, next (in cost) were the TOD speed sensors. Otherwise it's been smooth sailing since 2001.

:bgwg:of course i have tinted the windows, removed the backseat and emblems, put the roof rack back on, strapped my full size spare where the backseat used to be and put new tyres on (for no real reason). upcoming plans include; reverse camera showing through a motorized dvd capable face, lambo doors, sunroof, brand new black and yellow leather seats, blackout all lights, replace those little lame lights up front with little projectors and those reflectors in back with brake lights of some sort. oh, LED everything i can and add those blue headlights i saw a post about recently.

97,000 for me, 4-5 CV's, a rear axle bearing (that took out ABS sensor $$$$)and a couple shocks. Been running oversize tires since 25,000 miles, supercharged at 40,000, 3.5" lift and 33's since 50,000.

Also a few exhaust wo's where the flange has popped off the manifold (both sides)

I would say that is pretty damn solid considering the driving that it has done.

Mine has around 105000 miles and is dead as a doornail.

I think the previous owner ran it out of oil and did a quick bearing job to get it sold, which is why it blew up on me only 8k later. I'll know more when I get the engine out and pull the bearing caps. I know the engine has been out before and am pretty sure it had some bearings replaced since I found a used thrust bearing under the hood.

Fortunately, the replacement engine w/ 54000 miles should be here soon so I can get it back on the road.

I have a 2001 Proton with 157,000 miles. Probably the highest milage but most beautiful VX out there!!!

Here are my repairs to date:.............

CD changer replaced under warranty at 36K in 2002(warranty)

Replace original tires at 66,000 miles with 285X18..Terra something or another..ferot again:confused: probably around 2004

Exhaust flange broke off at 106K in 2005 (fixed myself re-welded)

Idle control valve (not the real name fergot that:mad: (fixed myself) corrected a intermittant fast idle condition.
Guessing@ 120+K out of warranty in any case.

Right side window repair: I figured this was coming from all the threads I read on the VX website..Finally died sorta!...fixed around 2006 myself. Died to the extent I repaired this problem with a tube of "weld it" and other various, "fix it's" sugested on our website. Well explained in previous threads....

Radiator cracks at 151,000 miles (July 2007)....The plastic head on the top of the radiator fails... and I have the car towed to a place with an after maket radiator replacement....cost with labor $265.00

Left side window repair: replaced myself due to, "scumbag" thief breaking window and stealing my stuff and radio/gps and camera (Nov 14, 2007) fixed myself last week...window anyway...r&r in 2 1/2 hrs including "weld it' fix......Lying in wait for scumbag to, "make my day"

Serpintine belt tensioner pulley fails at 156,500 miles...replace myself for $51.00 at Pep Boys..Aftermarket part looks whimpy...I am now feeling that everything bad happens at 150K miles on the speedometer of this car

Today....r&r high pressure power steering hose...due to small leak....conned my mechanic friend to install this... for 3, "151" rum and cokes at local Mex. Resturant

K....sounds like a long list but consider this....I have 157K miles....never filed a warranty claim, except for the CD changer....I have never changed the following:

1. The original brake pads

2. Transmission fluid:eek:

3. The cam belt:bgwg:

4. Spark plugs;oor;

5. Thermostat:cool:

I do presently have issues with the TOD and a intermittant transmisssion problem...which I am working on (when the mood strikes me)....but hey!!!!! I have a lot of miles on my beauty queen.....

PS:: Thanks to John Eaton 4 yo feedback...

You've never changed the tranny fluid?!

Nope! I come from the "don't fix it, if it aint broken club". I should qualify that by saying that I did replace the fluid immediately after I bought her with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Same with my differencials. I do change the engine oil (Mobil 1 also) and filter every 4K miles. Heat and abuse kills a tranny, so can running it low on fluid. Its a closed system so no outside contaminents are introduced. If it gets hot the oil is designed to change color and will stink! Then a good idea to R&R the fluid but the damage has probably been done anyway by that time. Auto tranny's, engines, and people do wear out, it is going happen someday but I have to smile at the ole gal every morning for her faithful service...so when she breaks I will fix her.

BTW, I owned an Aamco Transmission shop in Huntington Park, Ca. from 1969 to 1974 when I sold it and got into the car wash biz. That is one messy oily business...

My Proton just hit 83k today! So far so good... she needs some love and affection but she is doing great! Minor issues... the parking brake light on the dash panel goes on and off as she pleases, the dimmer for the dash lights doen't work (it is stuck on the brightest setting), but that's about it so far. She is a rescue VX. She needed nearly immediate attention once I bought her. Never been lubed  , never had tranny fluid changed  , didn't know when the last oil change was  , (when I bought her). But now she's all better! :) And waiting for braided brake lines, skid plates, rock sliders and all sorts of other goodies. After the holidays of course... I spent too much money already.

Hi Fuddy Mucker,

This is the place you can get help for your problems. Check out ebay and get a vehicross workshop manual first. If your not familiar with mechanical stuff get it anyway for your mechanic. Also, much of the routine stuff are interchangable parts with with the Isuzu Trooper 2. 1998-2001. Parts are all over the place over here in the US, the UK may be somewhat problematic. But can't see why they wouldn't ship....New parts for this car can be very expensive and not worth the price. i.e. a complete transfer case new with sensors is probably over $2.000 and is available thru carparts.com for a low as $150...

A good source for major component parts is going to, http://car-parts.comuse pay pal. The TOD has 2 sensors off the rear of the transfer case (Hi and Lo)...not sure by your description "TOD doesn't work" is pretty vague...but I'd check the wiring off those sensors near especially near the exhaust pipe and make sure there secure and still attached to the sensors.

Not sure bout the "pissed in gas tank"..that's a good one;eeko; Not exactly sure how you nail that diagnosis down with certainity, except maybe start the engine and go around to the back of the car, get down your knees and take a few wiffs off the tailpipe and see if it has that distinct steamy pee smell aroma:?:
good luck anyway.

In 2007 I had 50,000 now in 2010 70,500 still running well. Still mostly stock but added a roof rack, tinted the windows (the 130 degree summers required it), replaced the god awful radio/CD, Put new rims on her and kept maintainance up to date. I got 235,000 on my Proton. BTW any major component need for your VX is readily available at: car-part.com Transfer cases are cheap there. I paid $525 including shipping for a tranny with the T/C. That was at 185, 000 miles on the my chassis. The tranny had 66k and was out of a Trooper 2. It came on a pallet and was drop shipped to my sons work because they had a fork lift over there. Probably not necessary for a T/C alone. Good luck Lashquat. Car Part is not just one place but is 100's of wrecking yards across the US and Canada on a common website...

Haha no I haven't really adjusted for that but I guess I probably should consider that.Wasn't really thought I ever explored. Either way you put it I'm not getting too far on a tank because it goes fast. Trip of 560 miles from Madison, WI to my father's home in Ohio, I fill up twice because the yellow fuel light is scary.

Yah. The adjusted figures are prolly 11-12 rather than 10-11 ... not a huge difference. My 33's cause about a 10% error on the ODO.

Now here's the scarey part: you get about the same mpg as I do in the 7T RV (unless I'm 'toad-ing' the VX).

Both on the mileage you have...and the longevity of the t.belt !!

Amazing :)
