Yikes....got my tire delivery today and they are huge!!!!

Nitto Terra Grapplers 285 60 18

Will they really fit properly on my stock 2001 18" rims? ?
They look sooooo huge next to the 245's on there now!

With these mounted what will my speedo error be....I am guessing when I'm doing about 60mph the speedo will show 55mph?

Also will I be driving more miles than my odometer will show?

I will be mounting these next week if all goes well.

Thank you to all who has helped me with your posts on this subject !

the specs are below for the 18" and 16" . i have the 16" on mine and they fit with minor trimming.so the height is not an issue.the width and suggested rim size may be an issue.i believe the 16" rims are 7" wide i do not know about the 18" rims. shawn

tire size / height /width /suggested rim size
285/60 R18 /31.38 /11.54 /8.0-(8.5)-10.0
265/75 R16 /31.54 /10.75 /7.0-(7.5)-8.0

Hey DocDave,
Could not resist the bigger shoes he???
Gotta love it!!
With those big tirese you should get some deviation from the speedo and odo readings...nothing to be concerned about though. If you really want to find out what the speed difference is go to the local "cop shop" and have then do a radar calibration on the VX with the new tires. That's what I did with my old Chevy Blazer and found out there was a 5 mph difference to actual reading.

At 63.8 MPH speedo will show 60.0 MPH or 6.4 PERCENT SLOW
Your new tire is 1.9 inches larger in Diameter.

Hey Doc -
Yes, they will fit - I just put Pirelli P-Zero's on, size 285/55/18, and they fit like a charm, no trimming. I love the head on and view from the rear, but I'm still not used to the side view, though. From the side you see a lot more sidewall because of the way the tires bulge out from the rims instead of going straight up like the 245's did. I always hated the view from directly behind with the stock tires - they looked puny and made the VX look cheap/sickly. I think the guy who put the tires on summed up the new look the best - "man, that thing's a little beast!"

The 285's come out close to the edge of the cladding and look like they belong! With the 285/55 (as oppossed to 60's) you get very little height difference, so little speedo inaccuracy, and NO TRIMMING of the cladding needed! you'll love the look when you get them on!

Do not depend on the online tire calculators. With 265/70-16 BFG ATs my speedo was supposed to be just 4% slow according to the calculator. Laser said different. I got a GPS and it agreed with the cop's laser.

also ,the tire calculator shows a different size than the actual tire size. it shows the tire at 31.5 " and the height is really 31.38 " .so the speed is off from what it tells you. and there is also the amount that the speedo could have been from the factory. the only way to know for sure is radar or gps. shawn

Hey Bax... good to see you are still around, by the way! You don't post as often as you use to!
