I just purchased my Proton yellow VX in Dec. so far sooo cool! Just wandering, I know the rides a little rough, but I do need new rear shocks (bounces abit) Does anyone have the slick set up for a smoother ride? I've got the fatty hook-up for Fox shocks but just looking for suggestions! :thanx:

Dood... do a search for shocks as they have been discussed quite a bit... but I gotta say, as I am (or have been) an avid mountain biker, Fox makes some SWEET SHOX!!!! I'm sure they're mighty expensive, but if you've got a hook-up, and can have them valved and custom set, you can do it any way you want!

Rancho 9000x ....less than $400 for a set of 4, 8 position adjusters and optional remote in cab adjustement. Installed them a few weeks back and love them, still firm but much smoother ride on road. Factory shocks better for serious off road stuff though.
Even without the remote adjuster it takes less than 2 mins to adjust all 4.

Are you a second owner? Some simple mods can make handling and bounce a bit less than comfy. Larger tires, wider wheels, and suspension changes are the major culprit on the VX. If it's all stock, I recommend getting used to it, heh. The VX was pretty much designed with that "feel the road" purpose. Far cry from a Lincoln Navigator or a H2.
firm .... yes ......
.
bouncy ...... no.
.
try the bounce test .... open the rear door and push down .....
.
you may need new shock absorbers. This is not too uncommon.
.
The Rancho 9000's appear to be a good option .........
.
A few have installed Billsteins ......
.
I went with KYB Monomax on all four corners ....... slightly under $200 shipped to my door ......

Thanks to all you that replied about the shock issue. I see that there is a post for a discount on the Ranchos and that seems to be the way to go. It's nice having a site like this since we don't even have an Isuzu dealer around here. Thanks again!

Just curious, but differentiating between firm and bouncy seems kinda difficult. A firm suspension is stiff and reacts to almost anything you travel over. A bouncy suspension really is the same, just has more reaction up and down than necessary(?).
I don't know about anyone else, but I find it hard to distinguish between whether my shocks are firm or bouncy, even with a push down test. While driving, my VX moves up and down quite a bit going over bumps, etc. But, correct me if I'm wrong, the bounce factor is when your VX takes longer to recover, or continues up and down say more than 2 or 3 times? Does this sound like a better indication of bad shocks? What does everyone think?
