Hello Everone!
I just jojned the fourm and would like to float a question about mufflers. I have a 2000 Ebony VX. A few months back I purchased a PV muffler ( actually 9 months) and have been quite irritated with the drone that it produces. I have added a resonator tip, but all that did was change the frequency of the drone to a higher rpm, now instead of a drone at 35 mph, I get the drone starting at 60 mph.
The postings in the fourm suggest a number of options, what I am asking about is does anyone have a Borla muffler installed? And more importantly, does it have any drone? I am looking for a good muffler/tip combo that will give more power :) and a thoaty sound without the drone.
I used to own a 67 El Camino with Flowmaster's, nice sound, but a bit too rumbly for my tastes.
Any suggestions?

I felt the same way about the PV and changed the tip twice. But then I got a Borla  It’s the Turbo part# 40658 and it sounds great. With the PV a lot of the time I did not want to punch the gas because of the sound but not so with the Borla. It has a much nicer sound that’s not irritating at any speed. It's a deeper more muffled sound but when you hit the gas it has a real nice rumble nice and smooth. I just got Magnaflow Catalytic Converters (from Car Sound) and it is a bit louder but still nothing like the PV I have yet to get it dynode but it feels great. I say go for the Borla I even think the quality is better than the PV. As for anyone else if you’re going to up your exhaust I'd go with Borla. Just my two cents.

Lots of muffler choices out there, and a search reveals lots of discussion and brands (PV, Borla, Supertrap, etc).
Question: Best muffler with the following criteria:
-I want a throaty deep sound, NOT an angry bumblebee "tuner" type sound
-Maybe a little hp gain
-Probably stock exhaust, although I'd like to see what diameter/approx cost for people who have changed the exhaust out as well. I already have a cone filter intake which doesnt do much really.
-Cost? Part number(s)?
Thanks for the advice

The Borla has a pretty deep sound as for performance gain I found that removing the screen by the mas air flow sensor greatly improved engin response. A few people have done it with out any negative affects. I would highly recomend doing this as it only takes a few min. just don't drop anything into your intake. The screen is like a honeycomb. I just shoved mine out with the back of a screwdriver. Good luck.

I had flowmaster put on mine.. and they actually installed a 40series which I didn't want. It does sounds deep and mean.. but the drown at about 35 is bad. It idles nice but when you get on it it's pretty loud.
Doc4h,
Thanks for being the Borla test subject, I've been looking for something that flows better than stock, yet isn't as loud as the PV2.This sounds like the "ticket" (just placed my order ystrdy.)
Well, TTYL...I gotta go wait by my mailbox.

Where did you get your Borla? There are lots of performance shops in my area, just checking if you had a recommendation? Online or a local shop or chain? Cost?
Thanks
I did a search for Borla Mufflers, AJ USA had them for $128.97+7.00 shipping.
Borla's site was $154.00 & I didn't bother to ck. what they wanted for shipping.Sorry I'm not quite advanced enough to post a link :sighy: maybe someday when I grow up.
Also, when you get there, click on "universal exhaust", then scroll dwn. to universal performance mufflers #40658.

Anybody have sound clips of aftermarket mufflers they have installed?

Didn't think I'd ever be saying this, but I'm probably going with something like the Borla soon myself. I'm finally just tired of the response the PV2 gets from other drivers. It's like a switch that turns on the idiot in some people. I get enough of that just driving a VX in the first place, let alone with the sound it makes. I don't want that much low-end noise anymore. I've seen one too many bad things almost happen because someone thought I was punching it and decided to punch theirs.
I have Borla and I am very happy with the sound...

I have the aeroturbine with a resonator. I love it now that I finally got all the holes patched up. It's actually pretty quiet and gives a nice howl when hitting it hard. At 70-80 there is absolutely nothing for the exhaust and intake.
