So my check engine light has been on since I bought the car on December 2nd. When I tried to get it inspected in Houston it failed because:

Fault Codes:
P0440: Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
P0405: Exhauast Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low

What does this mean and what should I do? I do have the PV Muffler (it was on there when I bought it). Thanks in advance, Ryan. Oh yeah I drove outside the city to Waller, TX(middle o' no where) to get it inspected and it passed with flying colors even with my cracked belt that I need to replace!

Hopefully you just need to clean out the build-up in the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) tube. Use this site's search feature for posts on how to do this - I think someone even posted pics too. It's something I've been meaning to do myself as well but just haven't yet. If that's all it is, it should be a fairly easy and very cheap fix - nothing to get too worried over. But if it's the EGR valve itself, I think it runs around $150. Or maybe a bad ground.

LittleBeast, Doing a search on the code numbers bring back a lot of information. Here is but one of the threads on the 440:

$120 and change here. :) Thought I'd throw that in.
