Hi Roland!

This is probably the same image that they referred to when looking up the part numbers (though probably on CD, rather than binder, but hey, a scan of the CD wouldn't help much).

Key numbers 357(A) and 357(B) are your speed sensors.

357(A) - Part #8-97181-579-0 (superseded)
357(B) - Part #8-97181-578-0 (superseded)

I can't tell you which would be the "front" speed sensor. Sad to say I've never even seen a VX in person, let alone had the chance to poke around under one. Perhaps someone more familiar with the VX transfer case will be able to tell you which one would be the front sensor.

Note that the part numbers I listed above are superseded part numbers. If you give those part numbers to anyone at Isuzu they'll pull up one of the part numbers you already got (686-0 and 685-0). I'd guess that 357(B) is now 685-0 and 357(A) is 686-0, but manufacturers like to throw wrenches in the works here and there so don't quote me.

Isuzu's suggested retail on either one is over $300.00. (Again, don't quote me... the web-based parts master is only available until 7 pm Pacific Time so I can't doublecheck prices at the moment.) If that *is* the case, I could *probably* get you either for around $160 to $170, or both for around $300. (Two for the price of one, depending.)

Hope this helps you out a bit, Roland.

Now that I'm at the lot with all the wonderful Isuzu resources...

Front Speed Sensor is Key 357(A) in the diagram previously provided. The up-to-date part number for the component is 8-97251-686-0. The Rear Speed Sensor is Key 357(B) in the diagram previously provided. The up-to-date part number for the component is 8-97251-685-0.

I never would have been able to figure out which part was front/rear without a VehiCROSS electrical troubleshooting manual.

Isuzu's suggested retail price of the front speed sensor is $314.17, with a suggested wholesale price of $267.04. If this is something you're planning to do yourself I can have the part drop shipped to you for just over $220.

Sorry it took so long... don't have the resources at home that I do here at the dealership.

I just picked up a set of used rear speed sensors for like 120 bucks at a junk yard. It might pay to do some calling around.

I had a similar experience after powerwashing my undercarriage. My tod went 50/50 split, 4-hi. Brought it home and overwhelmed the sensor connections with wd-40 to displace moisture. It worked.

Still don't know which sensor was affected. I would think it was the rear sensor, i.e., the tod control thought the rear was slipping and applied power to the front?

Update on link above:

Is there any online sources to pic these up?

What is the difference between 8-97181-578-0 and 8-97251-685-0?
[EDIT] Nevermind, found this:
Supersession Information
Part number 8971815780 was superseded by part number 8972516850.
