Sweet. They moved it from Thurs-Sunday schedule to Wed-Sat. I'm already looking forward to it. Only 205 days 'till Moab. :)

Has anyone done it from Chicago to Utah? How long is the drive? Anyone going again?

NocturalVX has, and I'm pretty sure he's going again in 2003. He'll probably see this post around midnight and reply then. He tends to only come out at night. :)

More VX'rs in Moab in 2003! It was so great to go on runs with several other VX's on them. Not only was the pictures easier to take of other VX's, but it was like a built in friend.
Anita? You said you would be there next year. I'm planning on leaving a few days early to help with registration. They are acceptiing names of volunteers. :)
I assume the VX only run will be that Tues before the event technically starts again- well worth getting there for it! This event really is fine for TOTALLY stock VXes - there are plenty of trails that will not damage your baby and on the others, you almost have to work at it or fall asleep to mess up - slow and easy (pay attention GPBob) and you’ll come away with nothing but grins and determination to do it again!

Would be cool to convoy to Moab. I was a little worried that I had to mod my VX but the zuzoo.org site says that stock vehicles have NO trouble and the owners are actually suprised at what their vehicles are really capable of. I will be planning this trip for the next 6 months. I was going to take only a few days vacation, but, I guess I better take the whole week off plus the following Monday!

MOAB! Yup, I'll be making the trip in 2003 and would love to convoy. I had a blast last time, and can't wait to get back there. I may skip a day of trail riding to experience more of what Moab has to offer next time.
Oh, and Tim... I know it's not midnight, but it's cold & rainy out, so the Sun is not. :)

You're up awful early today. Talking about skipping a day of trail riding. Did you fall getting out of bed and bump your head? :) That's just plain crazy talk son. Get there Monday morning if you want to see more of Moab. :) And if you really don't feel like driving all 5 days (including vx run), then see if you can ride in one of the BIG trucks on the last day. Jay and I did that last year and it was incredible. I enjoyed the trail, but I wouldn't want to take my VX on it.

Attack-Attack-Attack those rocks, & ledges, plastic is cheap.
Best trail for View & no Damage at Moab might just be Kane Creek.

That's about what I was expecting. I don't see how you can stay up that late at your age. I guess you need fewer hours of sleep as you get older. :)

There are LOTS of campgrounds around Moab. Portal Ranch actually has it's own website, and that is central campground and start of all runs. Lots of people camp in Moab. I would rather bring my own coffee maker, and stay where there is a hot shower, and wake up calls. The Super 8 is a few hundred feet away from Portal, and the Motel 6 is closer still. Portal Ranch has cabins at resonable rates, tent spaces, and trailor spots. It has dog runs, running water, and hot showers. If you are interested in getting a cabin, or reserving a tent space, it's limited and I would make reservations as soon as possible.
Anxiously waiting and counting down Moab,

Camping at Portal campgrounds is definitely the way to go if you like camping at all! The temperature in the evenings is awesome and the facilities at Portal Campgrounds are excellent. You can stay at portal for 5 nights at about the same price you pay for one night at the Super 8. They give ZuZoo attendees a 10% discount too which is a nice little bonus.
I've camped several times in Tellico and the one week that I camped at Portal was definitely more enjoyable than any of my Tellico trips! I highly recommend camping there... I'd be there again this year of it were possible. :D
If you plan on camping, be sure to make reservations... Here is Portal's site: PORTAL (http://moab-utah.com/portalrv/)

I just got my campsite reservation confirmation from Portal via e-mail. Although, I think I'm gonna call back and add Tuesday as well. After reading these posts, I guess I made the right decision.
I think we ought to consider staying at a different hotel this year - there has always been one associated with the event but not very well publicized. I will find out the info buy know it is just a little farther from the Portal but cheaper than the Super8. It will also give us an opportunity to meet more of the other Isuzu folkes.
Reminder, VehiCROSS ONLY run is Tuesday the 13th

You mean we arent elitist anymore?
:cool!:

Not necessarily! We will of course request our own wing of the hotel, on the ground floor and preferred parking. We do need to get to work on the elitist flag / colors though....
BumbleV-X
11/20/2002, 07:37 PM
Flag? Hmmm This has possibilities!
1st floor? uhm Tone..... it only has one story and 50 rooms..... lets not push our luck. Some of these trucks are bigger than we are and can use us as a lanch pad.
Just a thought....

11/25/2002, 02:51 PM
I understand that the elitists will be staying at the Red Stone Inn. I was just about ready to make our reservations when my pocketbook stopped me. After checking around, I found a better deal. Reservations at the Red Stone Inn are $64.00 plus tax for 2 queen size beds (AAA discount), and $59.00 plus tax for 1 queen size bed (AAA discount). Just down the street is the Ramada Inn. The Ramada Inn has 2 queen size beds (AAA discount) for every night including the weekend for $59.60 INCLUDING tax. Their singles are the same price. The AAA book says that Ramada has an extra diamond from the Red Stone. Ramada has microwaves, and refrigerators in each unit. I think we'll take the luxury for a cheaper price. I just booked two rooms for May 12th - May 18th. We are caravaning with some friends (in a Jeep), but would love to share the road with others from So. Cal.
Just my .02
Deby
The discounted rate for the "Isuzu Group" I got from Red Stone last week was a room with two double beds for $59.95 + tax. There are $39 rooms in town as well.

C'mon, no campers? $17.00 a night at Portal right in thick of everything? I hope I'm not the only VXer sleeping under the stars. If anyone else is contemplating a campsite, I'll be there. What could be better than a starry night and a camp fire in MOAB?

Not to mention the quiet...
I will be happy to spend all my time keeping all the zoid's awake at Portal at night. We could run midnight campground rally cross racing through the park. (Oooo, not supposed to call it that!)
How about a chorus of VX'ers serenading the campground with songs like... you choose 'em. ;pr;

Airconditioning-- I'm an AC freak, but the temp at that time of year is perfect and I didn't miss it.
Shower-- Portal has excellent shower facitilites. I had no complaints there.
Soft bed-- I bought a cheap queen-size air mattress at Wal-Mart and slept very comfortably EVERY night!
At ZuZoo IV, I stayed at the Super8 and I fully intended on doing the same for ZuZoo V. I really didn't want to camp, but I had limited funds and that was my only choice...
As it turns out, not once did I regret doing the camping thing vs. the hotel thing! From now on, I'll be camping at every ZuZoo event.
Do not be afraid!!!! You will like. :D

To be perfectly honest, I thought about reserving a cabin or a room. But then I thought, why spend the extra cash for amenities? I mean we will be on the trail all day? Maybe a couple beers by the camp fire and I know that's all I'm gonna be able to handle! Then it's lights out for another exciting day floggin' the tar out of my truck. After all, I can get cable at home!

Hi VX Crazy - I am in Austin and would really love to go to this but I have never been before (to Moab or even offroading at all - my VX is still stock - I know, I know, I need help!). I would love to tag along with the more experienced Austin crew if no one minds having me along. I have not made my reservations at Red Stone yet until I know I can tag along with someone. Anyone else in Austin (or close for that matter) let me know if that's an option.
Thanks j

Hum.. Only 485 miles from Phoenix? I'm IN! Anyone from Arizona wants to go? Let me know. We can drive up together...;Dr; I think Im going to camp it.
I think there will be a substantial number of Texans heading to Moab either Sat 10 or Sun May 11 to get there in plenty of time for the Tues May 13 VX only run. It takes almost 2 days from here and Jay suggested swinging up through CO to make the trip up a bit more enjoyable.
Texans I think are serious about Moab:
Dallas:
Jay
Jeremy
Corey
Houston:
Larry
Tim
George
Austin:
Lisa
Jennifer
Tone
Corpus:
Reg
Texans on the fence:
Austin:
Clayton
Kirk
Herb
As has been stated many times before and proved by example, COMPLETELY STOCK VXes do EXTREMELY well in Moab - choose 3 or 3.5 trails and you will not have an issue and will want to try harder ones afterwards!

I reserved at the Red Stone for the 12th thru the 16th - they are sold out/totally reserved on the 17th but I am on the waiting list. I figure if it takes 2 days to get there and we leave the 10th/11th, I should be okay except for that last night. Hopefully something will open up for the 17th between now and then. Otherwise, I will wing it!

Only 7 weeks left. Zuzoo.org should be taking registration really soon. The excitement level is building. I would be so much happier had a Honda not totaled out our second Isuzu we were planning on taking to Moab. Now we seem to be in a search for the perfect 4x4 Amigo with only 7 weeks left. Out in our backyard and garage sits front and rear dana60's, super swampers mounted on nice rims, an ARB air locker, 6:17 gears, new bestop, and all the fun extra's for my last Amigo. Now only 7 weeks to Moab these parts are car-less. So off I go to cars.com, autotrader.com, auto.recycler.com, and ebay. Anyone else know of other means of searches? Our goal is a 93+ Amigo.
Our VX is getting lonely in the driveway.
