Hey Everyone.
I've been a big fan of VX for a while and almost got one a year and a half ago. Wasn't my time I guess. I'm still a huge fan and hoping to get one in near future.
I'm interested in your opinion about VX as a street vehicle and an off-roader. Since it is going to be a used vehicle, is there anything i should be aware off? Thank you for your help.

The VX is more fun than watching Michael Jackson with a rabid monkey in his pants :p

I have been a member of numerous vehicle interest groups in the past. I have yet to find a vehicle which doesn't have its mishaps and this included my Mercedes Benz Unimog. And no, the majority of VX engines over 60k have not broken down. And then there is also Randy with his 130k and no problems. Go for it!

I have already signed the papers with it sight unseen, except for 3 pictures.
Yeah, I am a gamblin man. I'm sure everything will be fine though, I say with fingers crossed. I have always loved the look of this vehicle and am very excited about getting it.

Congratulations to you. I took mine to the dealer for her 60k service right after I got her. Now I just switched to Mobil One synthetic oil in the engine. Will go to synthetic for drive train as well once due. You are going to love your VX. If you have little issues like the windows binding etc... this site will be a savior, and some things will be easier to work on than you might think.

You have a large group of Texan VXer's in your area. They are great people and would love to meet up with you. Take advantage of the wealth of knowledgeable owners available to you.
Welcome to the family!

As I understand, most of you very happy with your VXs. Of course, there is always a case or two that have to deal with some problem, but that can happen to any car. and it is less likely to happen to Japs.
For the most of you VX seem like a weekend vehicle, am I right?
would it be a good day to day driver?
I currentrly drive 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, 2wheel drive though, love that car but can't get VX out of my head. Would it be a good swith?
are there any VX groups in Los Angeles?

Hey Cascabel, since you own some other 4by4 suprems such as Uinimog I've got a question for you. How would you rate VX off-road capabilities compering to other vehicles that you owned? I ment everyday SUVs;)

i personally used teh vx as a daily driver.....i have about 53k on my vx and not really worried about it blowing up at 60k...since tat only happened to a few people. but i switched to a smaller car because the gas prices r getting outragous here in the bay area....2.50 for regular unleaded....a full tank, 20gallons or so, was about 50 bucks....
i duno how much mpg ur vx will get but mine gets about 300miles per tank which is aobut 15-16mpg...

I use mine as an everyday driver right now - have been for the last 6 months or so. I hate to rack up the miles, but I'd also hate to go back to driving a "lesser" vehicle! ;) The ride can be a bit rough, but I personally like that retro '84 Corvette ride quality - kind of reminds me of those weight loss jiggle belt machines they used to have (unfortunately it's not helping me lose any weight yet!). As far as gas mileage, I never seem to measure up - I don't drive the VX particularly hard, and I do a mix of city vs highway driving - but my mileage is normally in the 13.5 - 15 mpg range

Hey Designerguy,
I have owned 91 Isuzu Trooper and the VX will outperfrom the Trooper in the dirt by quite a bit.
I had an 1964 Unimog, but this type of vehicle is in a category of its own. Esentially a highway legal tractor, portal axles, lockers, 21" of clearance and so on. It's nice to be going 75 on the freeway again rather than 45.
I have bigger tires such as the Nittos and now that I have installed Tone's scan gauge I realized that my mileage is better than I thought, after calibrating the gauge to my tire increase. I currently average 16-17mpg Hwy/city.

Hey designerguy,
It's all about getting the service history first of all(if youcan) and second of all it's all about the special TLC you are going to give your VX. Instantly change over to synthetic oil products for everything. Like any 4x4 you have to keep to a good maintanance schedule. Do that and there should be no major problems.
Yea, you'll get your minor stuff like leaking headlight seals, windows that don't want to work and/or mystery code pop-ups but all these can be fixed easily with the help of the great people on this web site. There is enough knowledge here to sink the Bismark.
Good luck with the new ride..keep us posted.
John
