Anyone having problem with transfer case?
It seems like my VX is not shifting properly. It's interminnent, but very noticeable.
Sometimes at low speed it will get on higher rpms and not shift until I let go of gas. Did I mention it gets really loud, like gears are out of whack? It doesn't come from the engine. I can feel vibrations coming from the floor.
Yesterday I was trying to get on a fast line on a highway and some @$$****e would not let me in so I had to step on it. I wasn't going that fast, maybe 65mph. When I got to around 70mph, I felt jerk and this noise came on. Engine was at 4500 rpms which has never happened before...

Sounds like Transmission, not transfer case, you can check the transfer case by shifting into 4 low and see if runs alright. Have you had your tranny serviced ever?

Had it serviced three months ago. Now I am thinking they screwed up.
One thing makes me uneasy though. two weeks ago I took it in to the shop specializing in transmisions. They test drove it and chceked the codes but didn't pull any...

I would check tranny fluid level first. Noise could be lack of lubracation and the tranny may be slipping because of low fluid causing it to shift at higher RPM.

Do you have Tones interceptor installed? Not blaming the interceptor or anything but this could be a possibility or a difference.

I know it's a longshot, but, could one of the driveshaft balance weights come off? Just a thought.

Now I know what to look for. Thx guys.
It's actually shifting pretty much ok if I go in "driving miss Daisy" style.
Lack of lubrication was a first thing to come to my mind.
I will also check driveshaft. My VX is lifted and driveshaft sometimes lets me know it doesn't like this angle.
Any other ideas what I should look for?

VX_crazy: yes.
Ldub: I highly doubt that.

I am leaning towards low transmision fluid...

How does one check the amount of tranny fluid? It is a sealed system. When the dealer did my tranny fluid exchange he pushed the old fluid out; I believe with a cleaner solution (i could be wrong about this) or it could have been pushed with the new royal purple synthetic fluid. I was concerned about this and he replied that he would replace exactly what comes out. But what if it was low to begin with? The refill took many quarts (I forget now but at that time I researched it and the amount he took out of the 5 gal pail was close to specifications. I believe I have about 2 gallons remaining in the pail. So, I ask again...how can one measure how much in in there without doing what we did at the tranny service?

there are 2 drain plugs in the tranny pan.one is to drain and one is to check the level. the higher plug is for checking the fluid level. with car running in park, and fluid at running temp, remove the upper plug. fluid should be level with upper drain. shawn

Anyone that has changed the fluid or is about to change the fluid in their transmission care to do a little write up for the How To's (http://www.vehicross.info/modules.php?name=Content&file=viewcategory&cid=8) Section?
(Maybe with some photos?)

Joe Black has some on his web site. Fluid should come out of the upper fill hole when you remove it at operating temp - if nothing comes out, it is low.
