View Full Version : Change RPM limit

We have installed a 24v/150A alternator in our vehicle and need to limit the engine RPM to avoid blowing it up, preferably retarding at 3000 and limiting at 3500.

I have not found any aftermarket kits to limit the RPM or change the shift points - any tips from y'all?

I've seen similar devices in dragsters (bracket racers) but they require an aftermarket ignition system.

Why not go with a larger pulley on your alternator instead?

We need the alternator to have high output when the engine is idle so we needed a smaller pulley - the alternator that we chose will do 100A@24v@1900 (alternator shaft RPM).

With the Vehicross idling at 750, we needed about 2.5:1 ratio.

You probably should have read this thread before purchasing. Maybe this alternator could do what you need without blowing up.

Rickster has done a lot electronically and could proabably help with getting you the juice you need.........
