GTS=GT Styling whcih is brand I have found in smoke
Smoke is available but usually these come in a dark smoke or what is considered "Blackout" which I have bought for other vehicles.

in WW2 'blackout lights' on cars were covers that only allowed the light to escape horizontally and were used to hid from ariel attacks

Cool!! I want some of those! Better yet, lets black them out completely and install infrared headlights so we can drive with night vision goggles. I'll definitely have to get my PV2 muffler replaced though...

Lets hope I never seek that type of "blackouts" used for cover in battle situations. Looks like someone is a realy History Channel buff. I will take it from the lack of response that the very dark covers no longer exist....Thanks

VXNIT,
You can buy some lense 'tinting' spray and DIY if you really want them dark (sounds like a good way to get rear-ended though).

kpaske,
I have a set of IR lights that I 'liberated' from an M551 Sheridan @ 12 years ago. They are 24V, but I've been dying to hook them up to something. :p

Well Moncha's 'blacked out' brake lights on the trail nearly cause several rear enders even though the center brake light was working with my flasher. I can't imagine wanting to make my vehicle's rear end invisible and illegal. Rear end collisions do a LOT of damage to the VX and the driver. Maybe just drive with your lights off - same effect and cheaper.

Survey Says! Go for smoke or the rearend will be broke..Gotcha Tone..

GTS makes slotted ones which I had on before I actually got my tail-lights smoke tinted from the inside. The GTS slotted covers are pretty nice and easy to install. Can't recall offhand where I picked them up, but it was online somewhere. If they make slotted ones, I am sure they make the solid kind too. The solid's are illegal in some states so I would check up on that before purchasing.

I believe that it's an option provided by:
www.clearcorners.com

...which, despite its name, is not a ricer site. They have some really cool stuff on there.

The carbon fiber tail light covers dutchie posted above are by far the nicest I've seen on ANY vehicle, but $300+ is WAY out of my budget for something like that.

I agree with Tone - safety should be a serious consideration when purchasing mods for the VX. As much as I love the look, blacked out headlights and taillights are illegal for a good reason. They're fine for show cars, though!

mbeach - it's hard to think of a practical civilian application for something like that, but it would be fun as hell to hook them up on a 4x4 for some dark offroad fun!

I purchased a set of the "striped" covers...awesome and really dark. They are available from GTS (Catalog # GTS121962-SY). Still legal in all states and they look just like the ones Dutchie has posted, without the carbon fiber look.

Has anyone tried Night Shades or similar product as alternative to covers???????

Got the GTS smoke covers adn removed the huge GTS stickers but after one week one seems to be coming loose. Anyone had this issue and if so reco a good adhesive that will not harm the stock outer lens but tough enough to withstand the hot sunny weather daily here in FL??

I used the spray on tint and it made the back end look sweet. I masked it up and only did the turn signal and back up light. It looks sweet. I will get pics up for you if you want.

Hope you used the alcohol packet to clean the lens. If so, just keep pressing the spots that are lifting. Mine did that at first , but have been on for a year with no probs.

Agree SGT. I alcoholed the heck out of them before install, but one keeps poping off due to shape issue, just thought of putting some JD weld to hold but afraid it might eat into stock lens..I have been pushing it back in daily for now..They look good specially with those horrible GTS stickers gone. Thanks

They have a couple of styles on streetbeatcustoms.com. You better check your local laws before buying.

Streetbeatcustoms does NOT carry them for the VX. Cheapest I found were at http;//wwautopartswarehouse.com but they are out of stock for a few weeks - they do carry the black for the back and both black and CF headlight covers. They also carry the ugly stick on GTS vent visor and the superior Weathertech model.

vxnit,

If the adhesive is separating on the cover side, you might want to try removing the adhesive strip from thr cover and then cleaning the contact area of the cover with isopropyl alcohol, then let dry thoroughly and re-apply to the lens.

Again, autozone has always had all varieties of the gts covers, when I checked last. You have to order, then wait 5 days for them to be shipped.

I was thinking it would be pretty cool to smoke out everything from the line of the cladding down and leave the rest normal?

Here's what I did to my car (300C). Mixed black paint and clearcoat, sanded the taillight, painted and 2 coats of clearcoat.
Turned out great--this way you can go as dark or light as you want.

That looks really slick. How long have you had them that way and how well does it hold up to weather exposure?

Numba1goalie

ive been using the spray tint on all my cars and have never had a problem before. They have been on my VX for about 3 months now.

you just have to do it right the first time.

No problems as of yet. If I come across anything major, its an easy redo. Took my paint guy about 1 hr. then a little drying time.
