I just finished watching Tommy Kendall brag on the new Dodge Charger.

What was Dodge thinking? Classic Charger owners must be crying in their beers. Four doors, truck-style nose, refrigerator styling... and lets throw some cool graphics on it and only offer it in 70's Go ManGo! and Top Banana colors! I'd love to have a Hemi-powered car, but Chrysler hasn't put it in anything I want to buy (except maybe the Rumble-Bee/Daytona Ram 1500's -- but not as a replacement for the VX!!)
How about that new 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500?

450 HP supercharged 5.4-liter DOHC V-8 from the Ford GT. Under $40K. I want one! At least I can dream.

I'll be the first to say I think the Charger looks meaner than the Mustang. I also think the Charger is a neo-muscle car (like the magnum) where the Mustang isn't- so this may be an apple/ oranges comparison. I choose the Charger. I think the 4 doors may be aimed at the guy who still wants a real sports car but has kids to haul.

Funny you mention the 4-door thing cause many folks feel teh same way. UNFORTUNATELY, there is a money philosophy behind it that is actually very well thought out. Many sporty cars with 2 doors (think about the VX) made in the past 15 years did not have very good sales. The resale on these vehicles was even worse. Camaro, Mustang, and Firebird had pretty good sales throughout the years, but their major fanbase was second hand owners. First hand owners having sold them something with more rear room access (perhaps this generation was hitting the family stage).
Here is a wild surprise. The Sporty Impala SS that appeared in the late 90's actually sold quite well AND it had four doors. It wasnt meant to be a true sporty car at first (it was rumorured to have been a car that GM was hoping would tackle the Crown Vic for police cruisers, but the police did not care for it) but it ended up being quite popular among middle aged men (families?).
I cant say so much that this 4 door idea has not been well thought out. I think it's a good idea, even if I dont care for four doors. I all, a family man could talk his wife into it since it's easier to throw some munchkins in the back seat. A single, childless cat like me could always compromise with 4 doors, hahaha. I tend to like the Charger a LOT. I have had my eye on it and am actually looking for a second car. Now, don't laugh, but I have had my eye on th Saturn Sky. Zippy, sleek looking, and affordable.

Wormgod,
I too, have my eye on the Satrun Sky. I am planning to buy my wife one next year once the initial release is over. Very sharp looking car. The Pontiac Solstice is very similar (same platform), but I (we) like the saturn better. The interior is awesome. Not to mention, we need something that gets decent gas mileage and won't kill us to buy. I haven't seen a picture of one with the top up yet, I sure that it looks OK.

The Charger SRT-8 looks really mean.
I'm also betting they'll release the Saturn with the 240 HP turbo the Solstice will also eventually get.
