Just wondering what you all like to listen to in your VX. I know this has been discussed before, but it's been a long time since the subject has come up. I just burned a new CD for cruising in the VX, and her's my own eclectic mix...

#1 has to be Southbound Pachyderm by Primus. That song just gets me going and lets everyone around me know that I am a force to be reckoned with. ;)
Then, my fun jam tune is Windowlicker by Aphex Twin.
Having my pretty beefy system allows me to be a complete nuisance if I feel the need.
Oh, and if I am REALLY in a mood, I get a little weird on people. I will pop in some Afro Celt Sound System. ANYTHING by them. Just imagine Celtic/World Drum and Bass.... ya, weird, but awesome.

Hey WormGod, if you like Afro-Celtic music, check out a band called Brother. They are Scottish by way of Australia and have some awesome Celtic Rock with Digeridoo's and stuff.

If I were to limit "driving" music to songs that explicitly mention driving a vehicle, I'd have to say that my favorites are:
-Radar Love = Golden Earring
-Asleep at the Wheel = The Bloodhound Gang
-Hit and Run Holiday = The Thrill Kill Kult
-Jesus Built My Hotrod = Ministry
-40 Miles to Vegas = Southern Culture on the Skids
...and some more that escape me at the moment. I really should sit down with the collection and burn a real driving CD.
according to my ipod here are the top 10 most (randomly) played songs in the VX... so I guess by default they're my current 'driving songs'...
Sigur Ros: Untitled #8
Beck: Girl
Young Jeezy: Gangsta Music
The Wrens: This Boy Is Exhausted
At the Drive-In: One Armed Scissor
Band of Horses: The Funeral
Slim Thug: Already Platinum
Built to Spill: Car
Nirvana: Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
Radiohead: There There
-biju.

I flew to Denver yesterday to pick up my 01 VX and drive it back to Park City, UT... Altogether right under 500 miles. My music line up was by album, not individual song because I had 7 or so hours of driving.
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Billy Idol - Best Hits
Nightwish - Wishmaster & Once
Lacuna Coil - All 4 albums (first time listening to Karmacode and it rocked!)
Kidney Thieves - Trickstereprocess and some of Zer0space
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
Nirvana - Nevermind & In Utero
Tool - First 4 albums
Theatre of Tragedy - Aegis
I'd have to say the Black Sabbath, David Bowie, and Nightwish were the best albums for the ride.

So, is it just me, or has anyone else ever had their CD changer loaded full of Tom Waits?

For driving (other tasks require different music):
3.5L Isuzu V-6 coupled with a TOD 4L30E transmission.
I just like to listen to my engine most days. I've saved my own *** more times than I can count by hearing changes in road conditions or engine performance.
But when I'm out for something to keep me awake:
Carl Orff: Carmina Burana
Gustav Mahler: 5th symphony (Chicago w/ Solti) ... Mahler 5 rules for destroying sound systems (quiet, quiet, quiet .... fff full orchestra)
JS Bach: anything .. fugues RULE!
Metallica: Ride the Lightning (their finest work IMO)
Brian Setzer: Jump Jive and Wail
Rammstein: Rammstein
Mortal Kombat soundtrack
The Matrix soundtrack
Nobuo Uematsu: Final Fantasy 1-11 soundtracks
NPR - whatever's on ... starting to have too many commercials (stupid sponsor announcements and fund drives amount to commercials without the cheese)
Also, whatever else I grab on the way out of the house ... a lot of stuff I like I don't even have on CD, especially Jazz and orchestral music. XM radio is looking awful attractive.
So, in order my genres are: automobile sounds, orchestra/classical, trombone misc., Jazz, heavy metal.
I listen mainly to various electronica and game music stations on Shoutcast at work. They tend to fade into the background of my conciousness and not distract me from what I'm working on.

I know exactly what you mean…
I was sitting in the fire lane at the mall, immediately after dropping-off Miss Kathy, when an amazingly drop-dead-gorgeous young woman started walking towards the VX on her way to the entrance… I caught her looking and smiling toward ‘us’ -- Well, that is, until she got within earshot of my open driver's-side window, and heard…
“Anchors away with the Black Rider
I'll drink your blood like wine
I'll drop you off in Harlem with the Black Rider
Out where the bullets shine
And when you're done
You cock your gun
The blood will run
Like ribbons in your hair”
…from The Black Rider (http://www.officialtomwaits.com/music/m_br_lyr.htm#Black_Rider).
That bubbly smile of hers disappeared immediately… replaced by a look of intense revulsion and horror! :smilewink :razzgray: :laughgray

Just this weekend I discovered the whole bollywood-meets-reggaeton fad (apparently its already yesterday's news in Mumbai) and I must have played Mirame by Daddy Yankee about 50 times. I have yet to burn a CD of the tracks I like - still exploring.
