This is my second request for help on this topic. I am getting a high pitch whine at 60+ is this the transfer case, or differential? I have registered this with the local dealer but they say it hasnt been a problem, is this a normal sound and do I need to look into sound insulation like dynamat?

This proably could use some more description to really get a good answer.
Does the whine change at all and at what speeds do you start to hear it?
It could be one or the other..

Best thing to do is to take your tech with for a ride and point out what you hear.

TOD/Transfer case - ALL 4x4s will make some noise from there - I’ve had a few changed out because of the noise as have others.

It starts at 60 and is most pronounced up to 70 where it is a little less, if I get off the accelerator it goes away, what do you think?

without actually seeing or hearing it, it sounds like it could be you rear diff.. Have some one sit in the rear seat and then move forwards to try and target in on the noise...

It sounds like it is coming from the rear diff. local dealer received authorization from Isuzu to start tearing into it next Monday, any advice I can give them based on your experience as to what in the diff. is the culprit?

The pinion gear (Ring gear) can be shimmed to get rid of the noise. Unless something else is wrong with it.

I’ll still bet it is the tranfer case - you would be hard pressed to hear diff whine at that speed and since it goes away when you lift, that has been the symptom on my 3+ replacements.

The noise is definetly coming from the right rear, well behind the front seats and in the area of the back seats, the transfer case is not in that area, the dealer says it could be a wheel bearing, says Isuzu found this as the problem with another VX, what do you think?

When you isolated the sound to a particular side at a given speed it lead me to believe it was a bearing as well. Question, have you re-packed lately?

I just bought her last month have 12000 miles, this thing howls at 62mph, have not repacked any wheel bearings.
