It's looking more like a spaceship now.... the ashtray now has the inclinomter with blue LED, the bottom DIN location has 3 gauges: air/fuel, ODB2, and in-cabin air temp. The fuzzy hole has the digital clock.

Moon Buggy and all,
Thanks for all the compliments. You can get the inclinometer from jcwhitney, they only have one on the website so should be easy to find. I performed a little surgery on it by installing two 194 blue LEDs and hooking it up to the light switch so it would turn on with the dash light. The LED clock was also purchased from jcwhitney. The ODB2 scan gauge was purchased from Tone and it came within 2-3 days.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed it :D

Could you show us a day time view of that install? Curious as to how you installed the inclinometer since it is in a case. Did you use the front bezel, or make a custom one?

it looks awesome, just one question about the inclinometer, does it have to be hooked up to an electrical supply or does it come with batteries ??

I'll try to take a pic of the inclinometer during the day so you guys can see clearly how it's fitted in there. Will have to wait until this weekend since it's already dark by the time I get off work.
Basically, I removed the ashtray + bracket and squeezed that thing in there. I also had to create a little bracket to hold it in there (not hard to do). The inclinometer came without lighting. I took it apart (very easy), drilled a hole in the back and put two blue LEDs in it, and wired to the instrument on/off circuit. I soldered the LED's directly to the wires, no LED base was used.
If you guys are in Austin, I'll be more than happy to help with the installation or just email and I'll help anyway I can.
I agree that the VX pic in the inclinometer would be more appropriate than the jeep but that's beyond my capability :(

I jsut picked up one of these neat toys from an old tercel. I can't wait to get it fitted up!

At least the pic looks like trooper, instead of the Jeep style, I will wire it through the dash lights off of one of the OEM switches. Another project...just what I needed.
Gonna wrap it in box carpet so I can velcro stuff to it. Better than painting it, and keeps it fairly OEM if I want to sell it one day. I will add some pics to this thread when I get it done.

Didnt the Montero come with one too? Mounted right on the dash? Maybe it was the trooper? I cant remember which but I know one came stock with an inclinometer in it.
Very cool. I want to do something similar to mine. Great idea with the LEDS too.

What a cool set-up! The updated link to the Inclinometer the OP listed 5 years ago is here (http://www.jcwhitney.com/grade-tilt-indicator-with-built-in-mini-compass/p2008964.jcwx?filterid=j1).
Nerd alert...
I was also reminded of spitfire5454's thread (http://www.vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?t=18493&highlight=iphone) where he mounted his iPhone on the dash. Yes, there is an Inclinometer app (http://www.pcworld.com/appguide/app.html?id=85076&expand=false). I know I have a little program for my HTC (Windows Mobile) that also uses the built-in accelerometers and acts as a level. I think I'll have to do more research tonight and try out one of the other programs I found. :)

Actually, the list of vehicles with factory inclinometers includes: pathfinders, old 4runner/tercels, troopers and the montero. Some of the Old FJs had em, as well as the new FJ has it available. I am sure there are a handful of others, but I know the above ones had em. I didn't realize they were so expensive, I walked past a montero that had just put out in the all yo ucan carry yard, it was still there, by the time I was done and decided to grab it, it was gone. Damn, would have saved me 70 bucks.
I just saw this, it might fit in the cubby or ash tray:

I've got them in my Pajero (Montero). I've lost count how many times I've wondered how far I can get the needle over during a severe lean! Got it up to 40 degrees, but my puckerometer then takes over and stops me going further :bgwb::bgwo::bwgy:

HAH! I saw a couple Raider's for sale here on Craigslist a while back!
This thread has made me wonder.... I noticed that these inclinometers seem to warn about exceeding 30 degrees in all directions. Is that the maximum safe limit for the VX? Less?

I think that is just a general safety thing, I am sure I have had mine past 30. Gets a little scary, I had a guy hang on my door frame when it got a little tippy.

AH! I wondered if it was just a general recommendation since everything I saw for all vehicles was set at 30 deg. So what section of the classifieds is the best for hiring someone to act as ballast? Hey, "How many engineers does it take to act as ballas.... :slap:" Oouucchhh, yeah, I'll shut my pie hole now.... sheesh.

Got my toy today. Pretty sweet, everything works perfect. What makes it even better is that it's modular, I mean to say that the actual gages are separate of the housing. That makes it much smaller, I am thinking of getting some 18 or 20 ga tread bright aluminum and putting by sheet metal brake to work. It would add some spice to the black plastic of the interior. My dash really does look like a space ship now, the scan gage, my sirius control, head unit, and cell charger, GPS, digital rear view mirror and neon controls are ridiculous. I am replacing the dome light with a retractable 30ft extension cord, magnetic mount light from an old wagoneer. Makes a great work light, and since its magnet base, I can just stick it to the roof or sides just about anywhere since I gutted all that plastic.

I'm guessing the jcwhitney one is just a generic version of the Niken:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/digital-veh...terid=c26838j1
http://www.4x4.sg/index.php/product-...igita-attitude
Besides pitch and roll it also displays time and compass readings. I wonder if it also displays altitude? It's called an attitude display, but I don't know what that means, unless it has a mood ring function. For $16 it looks like a good deal and useful.

I think it's an aviation term. I vaguely recognized the term, but I've also worked with a lot of Air Force and Navy pilots over the years.
If I can somehow get rid of the Jeep decal....
+1 - Something small enough to fit in the fuzzy hole area would be really nice, but no way I'm going to buy something that clearly has a Jeep profile on it. Maybe you could buy on of those vehicross.info bumper stickers and cut the VX out of it?

Yes, I know my truck is a mess...had it all apart yesterday running wires for the inclinometer and the external CB speaker.
Anyway, I got this from 4wheelparts, its a smitty built, listed under clinometer, about 16 bucks shipped. Its nice. I took it all apart, you can definitely replace the decals, just gotta find a small VX sticker...and getting the front shot is gonna be tough. As for the placement its perfect, I can see it through the steering wheel! Not that you use it very often, it a situation where you might need it, you aren't gonna be moving anyway. I ran the lighting off of the dimmer circuit, so it lights up with the dash and dims with all the dash lights. Nice product overall. If I can get the Tercel inclinometer to fit in the wife's RS, its goin back on Ebay. :(
Underneath the inclinometer, that silver part is actually another DC outlet I use to store my LED flashlight, it looks like its part of the new toy, but its not...:)

What's the issue with getting a front shot to replace the logo? Seems like you could take a side and front pic of your rig, then take the pictures to Walgreen's and have them made into the perfect size stickers. See link:

In the ashtray is a scangageII, in the CD din is a dual outlet inverter, all the wires, that are normally not visibile run to a relay in the glove box, that is all powered off of a OEM isuzu foglight switch. In the multiport DC outlet is my cell charger, sirius radio and GPS.
