I'm looking to purchase my first VX and am interested if anyone has some advice: in general and more specifically about this one I've listed below. My first thought is that it is really over priced - especially compared to the blue book value.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks!

holy carp ;eekr; . mine is a 2001 with just about 33K, and i'm having trouble getting 15 thousand. either way, the car is out of warranty, 10K is not really that big a difference on a car this new.

Very low miles, but bone stock! If it was highly modded, maybe... but bone stock?

Another thought,
For 13,???, you could have Tone's, yes, higher mileage, but has s/c & most other conceivable mods & impeccable maintence.
Just buy a plane, train or bus ticket to Austin & drive home money ahead!

Considering the last batch sold NEW for $23K with the 10year/120K mile warranty, that's getting screwed.

Our Dragon with nearly the same mileage cost $16.5 from a dealer in May. It was a late seller (in service date of 8 Sept 01) so it was still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty at the time.

That 10/120 warranty gets halved after the 1st owner, so just assume that it's out of warranty as well.

Send the dealer this way and we'll show him 100 better deals than his 20k car. I'll bet he comes down for you.

I would think rising prices would be a good thing?

For owners anyway! ;Db;

Way too high!

There's a 2001 ebony VX here in Dallas w/ 32k for only 15,500. I bet they will go down even more.

I checked it out a couple of weeks ago. It looks very sharp. Apparently, it was bought and traded in at the same dealer. The guy traded it in for a Mountaineer. The only draw back is the previous owner was a smoker for some that's no big deal.

If anyone is interested let me know, and I'll split the $100 finders fee with you the dealer said they would give me. :naughty:

Peace.

I agree. If prices keep coming down on used Vx's our rides will be worthless in the years ahead.

They're not coming down that fast.... in the last year, they haven't depreciated much at all.

From the research I have done it seemed very high, but wanted to check with some people who know more than I.

I have seen a few more VX's online that have comparable price/milage to what you all have posted.

I'll keep looking.

Thanks a ton!

Yeah, that dealer is on crack. In this period of exorbitant gas prices, a 15-mpg SUV like the VX is a tough sell.

As for depreciation, I bought mine in Dec '04, and $12,500 was the approximate KBB value. Less than a year later, that number is down almost $3000. That's a LOT of depreciation for a used vehicle.

However, if you are just talking in terms of "what does a 4-year old VX with 50k on it go for today compared to last year" there may not have been much depreciation.

Blue book values haven't really held for the private party market. Especially with regards to Protons (thankfully! :)) I think I could sell mine today for more than I paid for it a year ago, although I've put a few thousand dollars into it, so...

Wow! That's near what I paid for mine 4 years ago with only "23" miles!!!!

Someone is off their rocker. I suggest a $9k check and a shotgun will be needed during that transaction.
