I have a shop that is asking for $85 to repack the front bearings. How does that sound, what have you guys paid for it?
I will be getting a tranny flush at the shop tomorrow morning, so i have to decide by then if i should look for a better deal or have them do it.

Thats not unreasonable. The calipers and rotors must be removed for this.

You're probably not going to do much better that that. Git 'r done! :-)
Just had mine done the other week. Paid $280....
They must have used grease with diamond dust... *sigh.

I repack my own bearings, but I have the tools and the time.
I'd gladly pay $85 for someone else to do it. It doesn't get easy until the third or fourth time. Up until then, it's a knuckle-breaking dirty curse fest.

Thanks guys, good to know that it is reasonable.
The mechanic determined that the bearings didn't have any play in them at the moment and its fine to wait a bit before the repacking. I have 35K on the VX so i may get them repacked anyways without waiting much.
BTW, he quoted $100 for the job, but is willing to give me a 15% special discount.
The tranny flush went great, he dropped the pan, changed the filter, and did the full BG machine flush, all for $160. A good deal!! Glad to have found it!
