There are a number of Subaru WRX police cars (even some RCMP cars in Canada).

I doubt the Skyline story though -Most of them are grey market cars, unless they are one of the (very) few that MotoRex actually did the legalization work for.
I did see a nice gunmetal R34 in Vegas a few years ago. I'm sure that it's been confiscated through the NHTSA by now...

I wonder how common those are, or if they are like the occasional Camaro or Mustang police cars here (or maybe the DARE Hummers that show up at car shows).

If I had my choice, I would rather see the Honda CRX police car in my rearview mirror...

haha if you look at that site...the STI is a colorado state patrol...you can see on the licence CSP....plus our cops are silver with blue and black
