I was looking through the new issue Peterson's 4wheel and Off road and saw a picture of a proton with a winch hidden inside the stock bumper. There was only one picture that was quite small, but I was wondering if anyone knew how this can be done? Also does anyone know what a good size winch is for the VX? I don't need to know a good maker I just need to know a good size.

hidden winch bumper. Easy, just pull off the front cladding and add steel to the frame and under neath...reinforce the angles from side to side.

That proton would belong to Swordy. Take a look through his gallery and there might be some pics there. Along with him, Spazz (above), Todd Adams and a few others have winches installed behind the cladding and I'm sure would be able to answer your ?????.

Spazz or anybody, approximately how much did it cost to add the winch? I have a 2001, and was thinking of selling, but it only has 13000 miles on it, and it feels too much like family, so she talked me into keeping her for a year or five. To celebrate, wanted to spruce her up a tad, but now need to decide if this means a winch, new Nitto tires, Tone's brush guard, or a hood scoop (if I can find one). Decisions, decisions....

I'm going to have to get like a list of detailed instructions or a group of pics to show me how to do it. I'm sure its not hard its just doing it right thats the trick. And hey what size winch did you guys use?

Sounds good to me. Once I get it running again I'll probably start on that.
