what weight oil should I use my motor is freshly rebuilt (by me of course) what kind of oil do you recomend (weight) on my old sr20det every one used straight 30 weight for 500 then 10w30 or whatever

I think to run Mobile1 0W30 or 5w30 would be awesome from day one... make that mile 1 :)

Do a search on mineral oil for break in. This was a Nissan recommendation at one time. I've never used it, but I know that SCC used on on their Project Z32 and S13.
As for your SR, is it a red top? If so, consider the fact that it is at least 10 years old, and most likely the tolerances have opened up. I wouldn't run anything too thin in there or you will have blowby issues -especially with those oil squirters under the pistons.

We use kendall 20w50 in all the motors we build. The most important thing is to prime the oil system. You do not want to start it dry. It can take many precious seconds to get oil to all the important parts. That can cause damage and premature wear. shawn

Do you prime your oil pumps with Vaseline?
I've done it a few times and it always seemed to work.

so use like a 0w50 or a 10w50 then is that what the general consensus is??
