Since the advice for prepping for 'ZuZoo includes bringing a full size spare along, has anybody tried adapting the current tailgate inset for the cheapo temp spare over to be able to transport a full size one?

I have a '99 so have 16" wheels. I thought transporting the spare in the tailgate might work if a suitable method for securing the wheel could be devised. I know I will probably have to ditch the plastic cover but it seems criminal to me to have that space and suffer with the lack of visibiity it causes and not be able to use it for what it was originally designed for.

The tiny spare barely fits in there....a full size will not. Hole is just too small. With the rear seat folded I just secure mine to the cargo area floor with tie down straps. A lot of people use roof top baskets to put them on. I don't like that because it is a pain to put a heavy tire/wheel up there and a pain to get it down.

Wyld, I'd had the same thought (pending my purchase). I can envision a mod involving some cutting of the inside door metal and some cutting, padding and finishing of the plastic back panel, but I also wonder about extra weight on the door hinges.
