I went to autozone and am getting 2 codes PO400 and PO440?
any ideas on what these might be?
also if i reset the check engine light does anyone know how many miles it resets itself if i want to get an inspection. I was told that after i reset the light a inspection machine will know and wont pass me untill a certain amount of miles have gone by without the light.
thanks

It took my truck about a week before I could get the codes to qualify after a reset (it depends on the amount of driving you do and not the actual time) - same issue - I was pulling a code for a faulty battery and the reset disqualified me for passing the emissions test.

P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction
P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
heres a link to a list of codes http://www.obdii.com/codes.html
i dont know details about the EGR valve, but i remember a thread saying it wasnt terribly difficult to pull, but also that a lot of times you could just clean it out and it would be okay, do a search for EGR and youll probably return some good results

id say the best place to start is cleaning your EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve well with some carb cleaner

I have this problem now too. After spending $1200 on a major tuneup Fuel System, emergency brake, and engine gaskets, 2 days later my Check Engine light came on again. A friend of mine scanned it for me and pulled the subject line code off. (P0440)
Does anyone know what this really means and how to fix it? (If needed)
Thank you.

Nevermind... I did a search for "P0440" and got what I needed... I was trying "P0440 Check Engine Code" and didn't get anything but this thread.
I reset the light, hopefully it stays off....

My Check Engine light came on recently but I don't know what codes came up but the mechanic did indicate that it was an out of tolerance indication on the O2 sensor. Since it was reading (although out of spec) he didn't think the sensor was bad. He replaced the airfilter and cleaned the MAS (Mass Airflow Sensor) and reset the light. So far (600 miles) the light hasn't come on again.
BTW - the engine was knocking horribly any time you stood on the gas but the above "repair" took care of that too.
