Here's the best I could do with microsoft paint on the idea of a Gullwing VX. of course something like this would pose many problems but possible in theory with an endless budget :) The back chop would be relatively easy and something I'm contemplating.

I think it would be cheaper to just buy an Amigo

Here's my version of a gullwing VX:

I like how you split the door in half... good idea! :D

That would be totally fun to try with the $2k VX in the other thread ;)

I cut the back off an S-10 blazer once and learned an awful lot about body work. It's a lot harder than it looks, that's for sure. The door would be tricky to do well.

The door mod would help solve the "I need to sell the VX for something more practical" excuse you see all the time on the for sale forums.

It's funny you guys are mentioning that. I'm searching for a nice cheap VX to just chop the top off like the VX-O2.

Yes on the door mod. With the split at the cladding & gullwing'ed it would be a cool street truck, a bit hard to get into a lifted VX that way though. Without the split and regular swing it would be, as Trathlete said, a nice access mod for the rear.

No on the rear chop. I too think it makes it look Amigo-ish. If you cut the back so it could be removed and replaced at will that might be a go.

IMO, Amigoish isn't a bad thing...I've painted out my rear pillars with black semi-gloss to diminish what I consider to be an "overly bulky" looking rear of the VX.

I always liked the lines of the Amigo.

Given the money (and a savegame incase I wanted to reload and go back), I would love to do this....

The Gullwing idea is really a dream but I like the idea of the really high sill and possible removal of the doors for summer driving now that would look cool. Once I have access to better software I'm going to play with the concept some more.
As for the back chop I can see a bit of an Amigo similarity but the VX it's self is so different anyway I think it will still look good, my intention is to have a soft top cover for winter. My first job when I get back is to paint the back sections black, as Ldub, as I think it adds to the VX look.

The high sills would also allow for addition of a space frame / roll cage to add stiffness to the chassis. :D
