Hi,

A week or so ago, my JDM threw up a check light on the TOD display. I checked through the previous threads and looked in the US handbook and can't see anything obvious. At the weekend I did the standard battery disconnect for a couple of hours and that had no effect. Strangely, the light only comes on after a few minutes driving and seems to be affected by temperature. We've had some hot weather over here for the previous couple of weeks - though nothing unusual for those of you in the southern states I guess but now it's turned a little colder (again nothing compared to alaska) there is a pronounced delay before the check light starts flashing. All I can think of is I drove through a thunderstorm a couple of weeks ago where there was a lot of surface standing water that would have soaked the underside completely. Could damp have got into one of the sensors? I've had a look underneath and I've not noticed any loose connections but; not knowing what the sensors look like......? I'm reluctant to go to my dealer since they continue to claim no knowledge of the VX and no similarity to the Trooper/Bighorn and they like to charge like a wounded rhino for the smallest inspection. Any help appreciated....

Thanks Paul

the connection under the VX that connects to the Transfer case shorts when wet.
Usually when more than just a light shower such as we get here in the western United states. More along the lines of a Thunderstorm such as the Southern United States gets or a Thunder Storm or when you take it Swimming.

OR if it wasn't properly sealed from the factory and just normal road splash splashed up on the connector and it shorted out and the TOD light came on.

If the light is steady and on nothing too bad is happening. If the light is flashing you have major problems. Stop the VX and turn it off Immediately and seek repairs immediately. This is the same for the Check Engine light.

But, best to seek to fix it all the same immediately. But, in a urgent situation you could drive it if the light is steady and not flashing. But, your choice.
