View Full Version : Drive train noise
Well dealer replaced both rear wheel bearings, while the rear end is quieter, I still have this high pitched whine at 60 mph and above when applying accelerator, when I lift off the pedal it goes away. Just to see if this is normal I went to another dealer who had a 2000 for sale, and it did not have this noise and was much quieter. Any suggestions? The dealer said bring it back and he would call Isuzu again, need help.
It is the TOD/transfer case - see previous posts on this.

My guess is with Tone, the Transfer Case does make noise.. But I have seen where the ring and pinon gears need shimming to reduce noise. Specifically a whine at 60mph under load that disappears when load is released... I for the life of me can't find the documentation right now though.
/me shuffles through crap on desk ;Dr;
Thanks guys, Scott that is exactly the symptoms, I would really appreciate it if you could find the info on shimming the ring and pinion.
thanks

A whine interpretation from Great Britain
"Usually a noise on accel or decel means a ring & pinion mesh problem. This generally requires diff replacement or rebuild. However if this is the case, they will go a long time with no problems other than the noise."

Isn't there an Isuzu issued tech service bulletin regarding this?

2001 VX Service Bulletin IB01-05-S001 refers to Driveline noise in 4 Wheel Drive.

There is but, that one is only for for t-case noise while in 4x4..
I'm almost sure that I read the pumpkin noise and cure in the dreaded CD Manual. Just haven't had the time to sit and scan through it yet.
Aw, ya beat me Bob!
Interesting - since I have a TOD disconnect switch installed, it is easy for me to switch this noise on and off making it clear that it is NOT the rear end. But that has been the guess of several Isuzu mechanics until I take them for a test drive and switch the TOD off....
Tone what noise are you getting with TOD on? I am getting a high pitch whine behind the drivers seats starting at 60 mph with power to the drive train, when I let off the pedal and coast it goes away. Are you seeing this when the TOD is on?
...so what a txr case go for now adays cause im gettin really tired of my whining which actually sounds like more of munchin/crunching like than whining....x
