New touch screen in my dash, check it out.

Well i finally got around to my new HU, it is a Kenwood DDX7015 touch screen dvd player. To do this i had to move my stock HU which has all my heating and A/C controls in it to the center console where the stock changer was. This required making all the wires to that unit three feet longer and a couple custom brackets. I also moved my suspension and transmision controls under the dash on my side so i can still reach them, more wire lenghening. Then the install, with a little creativity i was able to use the stock HU mounts to hold the new one and it fit perfect in the hole. All i can say is "wow" i am very impressed with this unit and all its features. All i have left is to put some 7" screens with head phones in the head rests and i am done...... for now. Here are some pics to check out, so please let me know what you think.

Here is what it looked like when i started:

    Thanks for your comments.

    Update:

I reshaped the trim ring and installed it to finish the new HU off:

Lots of hard work - looks great, very integrated.

Those newer double-DIN touchscreen headunits are pretty nifty.

I am sure with some creativity and hard work you could swap one in, it is the same width as yours.

Definitely cool, I’m hoping to do something similar when I get some time, money, bravery etc…
It’s great when people like you push these boundaries to show imagination is the limit. Thanks.

Yes, that kenwood 2 din system is very nice, sold here a lot for aftermarket use in german cars.
BTW, where did you leave al the climatecontrols?

    Kenny,

thanks man, i always bitch that there is nothing off the shelf to fit the Axiom but then i get a wild hair and go and do something like this just to prove that it can be done.

    Dutchguy,

I relocated the stock HU that has the climate controls in it to the center console

    ...

hey, that' spretty slick. At first I started to dislike very much having the head unit in the middle console, but after seeing you placed it inside where you have to lift the top to acces it, I thought it was cool. Good job....I would also want my VX dash looking like that instead of how it is now.

Super nice. I wish I had the patience for workmanship like that.
From Unimog to VX - a serious change in velocity - a small sacrifice in voracity.
