Got my call yesterday, they totaled her.
I really didn't think there was that much damage.
Anyway, I'm in search of another VX, Black or Proton.
Terrible news - although, you might be able to find a newer VX with lower miles? Just trying to find a positive spin...
Best of luck in your search. Keep us posted. Take care...

Sorry to hear about that. That sux.
BUT TAKE THAT ROOF RACK AND RUN!!!
Truly a pity. Hope it works out for you.
Now we will never know the long term results of the cladding work you did, I for one was really interested since mine needs something done and was really interested in your long term results.
Are you going to be able to pull any parts and make them available here? If so, I need of all things, the inside fuse box cover, not sure what happened to mine. Anyway, good luck in finding a replacement.
Try very hard to buy the VX back and part it out. Or, when my first VX was totaled, Tone contacted me with a person wanting to buy it... maybe he still knows someone.
Sorry to hear of your loss.
Really sorry to hear that I also didn't see anything terrible. I'm sure it is within $3K of repair max if there's no frame or engine damage.Originally Posted by Mark Miller

That does indeed suck.

I'm curious what could be worked out with the insurance company too. Possibly a buyback with a salvage title?Originally Posted by rowhard
Mark,
Sorry to hear that they totaled your VX. How many miles were on it?
Buying from the insurance company is a good idea if you want to got through the trouble of finding someone to fix it right.
Here in Raleigh, there is a company that specializes in buying totaled cars from the insurance companies and then fixing them back to new condition. My wife and I have looked at several of their vehicles (Lexus RX300, Acura MDX, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander) over the last year in preparing to replace our other car. They have pictures of the original damage, and yours looks no worse. I have two friends that have purchased from them over the years and have had no problems with the repaired cars. I expect that you could find a similar company in the Atlanta area.

Sorry to see the VX gone.
Time to get another black beauty.
There's a lot of low milage VX's coming out of the woodwork of late.
Never pack a gob****e there's always one waiting for you when you get there.
Sorry to hear your loss. Good luck with the new search.

I'll ask about the buy back price.
Here in GA you can buy back the car with salvage title and fix it, have it inspected without having a rebuilder license as long as you are the original owner.
I had talked my self out of buying it back, but I'm reconsidering.
My wife really wants me to get a proton, since my last two vehicles were black.

Sorry to hear about your losss! Do you know where I could get the passenger headlight assembly from? Was it in good condition before/after the accident?
Ask forgiveness, not permission.
Damn, that sucks. If you find a way to keep the truck for parts, I would be really interested in your tailgate.

Mark,
Sorry to hear about your accident. It's never a good day when we lose another endangered species.
Your VX appears to be well maintained - it would be a shame to let it get chopped up by a scrap yard.
Buying it and repairing it yourself is an option, but if someone had the money to purchase it for salvage, they could probably easily make their money back and then some by parting it out here. The idea has been considered a few times in the past, but I don't know if anyone has actually done it. The more years that go by, the harder it will be to find original parts. If you buy back your totalled VX and then find a Proton, you'll get first dibs at all the parts you'd ever want!
I personally am looking for a complete grey interior (front and rear seats, steering wheel, door panels, and knobs from the spare tire cover). Let me know if you consider parting her out yourself!
