    Hood Locks

    Well, my ride got broken into this weekend . Fortunately, the only thing stolen was my navigation system, but they smashed my passenger side window and ripped apart my dash in the process and snipped my new alarm system.

    At any rate, I've decided to install a hood lock. I'm currently debating the cable-type that runs to the cabin, ie http://www.bajataco.com/zr2steve/hoodlock1.html

    vs the pin-type which requires drilling the hood, ie http://www.mx6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108956

    So my question is does anyone have any experience with either of these? I'm leaning toward the pin-type since it seems to be more secure and would delay potential thiefs longer than the cable-type, which looks like it could be defeated with a pair of wire cutters.

    As it stands, I think my best anchor points will be along the radiator support. I'll post more when I get all my parts together for the project. Any advice/tips would be appreciated.

    ..you could also add a pin switch under the hood to tie it into your alarm so that lifting the hood would trigger the alarm....and on the rear door if you havent already.. ive been trying to figure out how to tie motion sensors to my factory alarm to beef it up a little

    I have a mercury switch mounted on the hood - if the truck is in running mode (from the autostart) and someone opens the hood, it cuts the motor and can't be restarted without the key in the ignition. If the alarm is armed and the hood is opened it disables the starter, making it more difficult to steal.

    Well I have a compustar alarm installed. My biggest concern is access to my engine compartment where they can cut wires and disable stuff. I figure the longer the alarm's going off, the less likely a thief will stick around. So the harder I make it for them to get into my engine, the less likely they'll be to break into my car again.

    Man that sux - I can so relate! I was also broken into like you last month. The b@stards smashed my side window and tried to take my deck . But surprise on them, the deck is bolted and anchored in place. They ended up with a few CDs. The worst luck was my alarm was armed, but I disabled my motion sensor a few weeks before as it was getting too sensitive in the cold - I procrastinated getting it adjusted. . The alarm would have gone off if they opened the doors, but they just reached in and fiddled around.

    I too have a Compustar alarm (2w8000fmr). I have a pin switch to detect the hood opening. I also have a battery back-up alarm siren deep in the engine - cut the power and it goes off -loud. Another add on is a very high piezo alarm behind the dash to make it uncomfortable to be in the car with it going off. And the icing on the cake is a good immobilizer.

    When they replace the window, make sure to check the rubber run around it. My rearward run was bent with a screw driver at the place they jammed it in to twist and shatter the window.

    Good luck with the hood lock, let us know what you do for that. I'm quite curious.

    One of my worst fears! I hope everything works out, and your VX is put back together quickly.

    I can't comment on hood locks as I really didn't know such a thing existed. I'll have to research them more - thanks.

    Keep us posted if you do install them.

    Did the alarm even go off? I would get a proximity sensor installed. It will give a warning when they get to close and go off before they even enter the vehicle. shawn

    How hard was(is) it to find replacement glass for these? I remember working at a glass shop and I never saw a vehicross on any parts list. I also remember that replacing quarter panel glass was some of the most expensive to do, due to the low volume production and lack of demand. I imagine this would be worse for us due the low total production in the first place. I am going to start looking into sourcing for any and all glass parts on this because if they don't carry replacement or cross over parts, we're screwed.

    my alarm notifies my remote as soon as its triggered. Nice feature to have and some of the newer models will transmit quite a ways.

    Wasn't all that tough to find a replacement for mine. It came from a glass distributor, PPG i think. So maybe the window fits other 'zooz too....

    Those look cool. Please post a write up when you get them in (i.e. best location to sit flat, thoughts, and some photos!).

    Ya it does look pretty sweet. Like Kenny said, see if you can get a write up going. I'm picking up that C/F hood this weekend from the other thread and will be doing this for sure. I dont know if i will go stainless or C/F yet.
